Abstract

This research had obtained the formulations of yam (gadung) starch and bran that can support the growth of Monascus purpureus optimally so that optimal red pigment was obtained. Apparently, by modifying gadung starch can shorten the adaptation phase of Monascus purpureus to achieve logarithmic growth. The modification was carried out by hydrolyzing gadung starch using acid and heat in order to obtain simple sugars and soluble starch which can be immediately used by the molds to grow, reproduce, and produce secondary metabolites in the form of red angkak. Hydrolysis at pH 3 resulted in starch solubility which was not significantly different from pH 3.5; 4.0; and 4.5 but significantly different from pH 5.0. The type of acid that was very effective for hydrolyzing starch was HCl. Substrate composition that can produce the most red pigment (angkak) with the highest solubility in water was the ratio (modified gadung starch : bran) 70 : 30 for 20 days of fermentation.

Abstract

Shortening is a solid fat with the functional properties needed to produce a better texture and appearance for bakery or confectionery products, as well as frying and cooking media. Shortening is made by mixing two or more vegetable oils and then modifying them through a chemical or enzymatic interesterification process. In this research, the raw material for shortening was prepared from a mixture of 2 types of palm oil olein: refined olein (ROL) and mid olein (MOL). This research aimed to determine the optimal ROL and MOL mixture ratio in the chemical interesterification process, which produces shortening with the best quality and specifications. Five levels of ROL/MOL comparison consisting of (100/0), (95/5), (90/10), (85/15), and (80/20) were chemically inter-esterified using a sodium methoxide catalyst under a vacuum of 0.8 bar at a temperature of 110 oC and speed of 500 rpm. The results showed that the increase of MOL in the ROL/MOL formulation tends to increase the shortening melting point. However, increasing MOL did not change the iodine value, and all the ROL/MOL ratios produced shortening with specifications that met the SNI 3718:2018 requirement, and the best ROL/MOL ratio was 80/20.

Abstract

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, has rapidly spread to various countries, including India and Indonesia. This study utilizes data from the cumulative cases in India and Indonesia, espand specific provinces within Indonesia, such as DKI Jakarta and Gorontalo, spanning a period of approximately two years. The proposed method incorporates factors such as expected recovery and mortality rates to determine the maximum daily growth, which deviates from exponential growth and tends towards stability or decline. RStudio software was employed to estimate future trends based on the current available data. The results indicate that Indonesia, Jakarta, and Gorontalo exhibit a sloping average growth rate over the past 30 days, while India demonstrates linear movement compared to the previous period. A 20% increase in growth rate in Jakarta leads to a significant rise in new cases compared to the other regions. Conversely, a 0% growth rate reduction in India and Gorontalo results in a notable deviation of cumulative case numbers from the actual data. This method can be applied to analyze similar problems if in the future there is another spread of pandemic diseases. Keywords: COVID-19, Iteration Method, Exponential Growth, Gorontalo and DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

Interlock brick is an environmentally friendly substitute for house wall materials because the manufacturing process is not burned like red brick. This method of installing interlocking walls, like Lego, can function as a structure for sluice gates, columns and ring beams without the need for plastering or painting, so it is more effective and efficient and can reduce cement consumption. Several actions must be taken to minimize the use of cement by using environmentally friendly materials. One of the environmentally friendly materials that will be researched is Interlock bricks made from a mixture of Fly Ash . This research aims to determine the compressive strength and water absorption capacity of Interlock bricks mixed with Fly Ash. The research method begins by looking for interlock brick parameter data in the form of compressive strength and water absorption capacity. Compressive strength is a parameter of the mechanical suitability of interlock bricks , while water absorption is the ability of a material to absorb water. There are 3 variations of the mixture, namely with the ratio Fly Ash : Sand: Cement, mixture I (3: 3: 1) Fly Ash 43% , mixture II (4 : 3 : 1) Fly Ash 50% , and mixture III (5 : 3 : 1) Fly Ash 56% calculation divided based on the percentage of the amount of Fly Ash , obtained the compressive strength value of Interlock brick from the Fly Ash mixture in mixture I 16.0 kg/m2 and water absorption capacity 20%, mixture II 24.7 kg/m 2 and strength water absorption 17.5%, mixture III 10.3 kg/m 2 and water absorption 21.8%. According to SK-SNI-S-04-1989-F Interlock brick mix II with a Fly Ash composition of 50% is close to class K25 (25 kg/m 2 ) and has an absorption capacity value of <20.0% according to the absorption capacity limit based on SNI 15- 2094-2000.Keywords: Interlock Bricks, Fly Ash, Compressive Strength, Water Absorption.
