Abstract

Anemia remains a global nutritional problem in children, pregnant women and female adolescents because of increasing its prevalence. This study aimed to analyze the effects of aqueoes extract of snake fruit seed (AES) on body weight (BW), body length (BL), body fat percentage (BFP), and wet organ weight in female rats with anemia. This animal experiment used the pre-posttest control group design. A total of 30 female wistar rats with anemia were randomly divided into 5 groups: the negative and positive control groups were given a low iron diet with or without administration of 3.7 mg/200gBW iron supplements, and the treatment (AES1-3) groups were given a low iron diet+AES administration (25,50, and 100 mg/200gBW respectively) for 28 days. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0, and STATA MP 17. The average of BW, wet liver and kidney weights in the AES2 group significantly increased, compared to other rat groups. The average of BFP in the AES2 group significantly decreased, compared to the control groups. The average of BL and wet spleen weight did not differ among rat groups. In conclusion, administration of 50 mg/200gBW AES increases BW, wet organ weights, and decreases BFP, but has no effect on BL.

Abstract

Latar Belakang. Obesitas merupakan masalah baik di negara maju maupun negara berkembang dan selalu meningkat prevalensinya setiap tahun. Dampak obesitas berkaitan erat dengan penyakit metabolisme dan kardiovaskuler. Nasi gelatinisasi yang disimpan panas dan dingin menyebabkan retrogradasi dan oksidasi karbohidrat sehingga dapat meningkatkan jumlah pati resisten dan menurunkan IG (Indeks Glikemik) serta terbentuknya asam lemak rantai pendek (asetat, propianat, butirat). Pati resisten berperan dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah, sedangkan asam propianat berperan dalam sekresi hormon glucagon, GLP-1 dan PYY sehingga menekan nafsu makan dan menurunkan berat badan. Tujuan. Menganalisis pengaruh metode dan lama penyimpanan nasi gelatinisasi terhadap berat badan dan asam propianat pada obesitas. Metode. Desain penelitian adalah eksperimental pre-post controlled grup design dengan 65 responden obesitas dibagi dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan secara acak (Kontrol, P1, P2, P3, dan P4). Instrumen penelitian pengukuran komposisi tubuh dengan BIA (Biompedence Analysis) pre-post test, kadar asam propianat dengan VPA-GCMS (Volatil Fatty Acid - Gas Cromatography Mass Spectrometry) post test, dan food recall. Analisa statistik dengan Saphiro Wilk dan Paired t test atau Wilcoxon. Hasil. Metode dan lama penyimpanan nasi gelatinisasi berbeda nyata terhadap berat badan (p = 0,007 < 0,05) pada penyimpanan dingin 4 0C selama 48 jam (P4), sedangkan kadar asam propianat signifikan pada perlakuan (P4) yaitu (p = 0,000 < 0,05) sebanyak 0,26 mMol. Kesimpulan. Nasi gelatinisasi yang disimpan dingin pada suhu 4 0C (refrigerator) selama 48 jam dapat menurunkan berat badan dan meningkatkan asam propianat.

Abstract

Iron nutritional anemia is a prevalent health issue among adolescent girls. Several factors contribute to anemia in this demographic, including inappropriate growth for age, poor nutritional intake, unhealthy food habits, inadequate or excessive physical activity, irregular menstrual cycles, and lack of nutrition knowledge. To address this, the government has implemented supplementation programs with iron tablets. Additionally, utilizing local foods rich in iron presents a potential complementary strategy.This study aimed to analyze the effect of salak seed flour biscuits (TBS) on the intake of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and vitamin C in anemic adolescent girls.This research was designed as a randomized controlled trial (RCT) with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study involved 33 anemic adolescent girls from Indramayu Regency. Data collection methods included interviews using structured questionnaires, 24-hour food recall forms, and anthropometric measurements of body weight and height. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, followed by Bonferroni post hoc tests.The results indicated that the administration of TBS biscuits significantly increased the intake of Fe, Zn, and vitamin C in all groups. Notably, TBS biscuits containing 4.17 mg of Fe per 100 g showed the highest increase in nutrient intake. Over a 60-day period, these biscuits significantly boosted the intake of Fe, Zn, and vitamin C in anemic adolescent girls.The study concluded that TBS biscuits are an effective intervention for increasing the intake of essential nutrients in anemic adolescent girls. The inclusion of such fortified local foods can be a valuable addition to existing anemia prevention programs.

Abstract

Mirabilis jalapa merupakan tumbuhan tropis dengan berbagai warna yang banyak ditemukan di Indonesia namun saat ini pemanfaatannya hanya sebatas tanaman hias dan pagar. Kombinasi M. jalapa warna kuning dan pink memiliki fitokimia yang berperan dalam metabolisme zat besi tetapi belum ada penelitian terkait dengan kandungan zat gizi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kandungan zat gizi dan fitokimia ekstrak M. jalapa warna kuning dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif eksploratif. M. jalapa warna kuning terlebih dahulu digiling menjadi serbuk kemudian dilakukan maserasi dengan menggunakan larutan heksana dan etanol selama 24 jam di Laboratorium Fitokimia Fakultas Farmasi Universitas Setia Budi Surakarta pada bulan Januari 2024. Besi dan seng dianalisis dengan metode Atomic Absorption Spectrum (AAS) di Fakultas MIPA Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta.  Kandungan zat gizi dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji proximate dan kandungan fitokimia dengan Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) pada mode ionisasi positif dan negatif di LPPT Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari-April 2024. Ekstrak etanol M. jalapa kuning mengandung kadar air 18.71%, abu 12.08%, protein 25%, lemak 4.74%, karbohidrat 39.47%, besi 0.11%, seng 8.95% dan vitamin C 5.51%. Fitokimia family Betaxanthin terdeteksi pada mode ionisasi positif sedangkan Betacyanin ditemukan pada mode ionisasi negatif. Ekstrak etanol M. jalapa kuning mengandung besi dan Betaxanthin yang berpotensi untuk terapi alternatif anemia.

Abstract

Insiden obesitas meningkat di seluruh dunia selama beberapa tahun terakhir. Diet dan aktivitas fisik saja pada penderita obesitas kurang memberikan hasil yang optimal, sedangkan penggunaan obat anti obesitas dalam jangka panjang dapat menyebabkan efek samping. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis nutrisi dan kandungan fitokimia kulit buah salak pondoh untuk mengembangkan pengobatan obesitas. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorium dengan 3 tahap: ekstraksi kulit luar salak pondoh, analisis nutrisi, dan analisis Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry yang selanjutnya disebut GC-MS. Kulit buah salak pondoh diperoleh dari pusat agribisnis di Sleman, Yogyakarta. Kulit buah salak pondoh kering diekstraksi dengan etanol 70% menggunakan metode remaserasi. Kandungan nutrisi yang terdapat pada ekstrak etanol dianalisis di Laboratorium Teknologi Pangan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sebelas Maret, sedangkan analisis fitokimia dilakukan di Laboratorium Riset Terpadu dan Analisis Pengujian Universitas Gadjah Mada, dengan menggunakan metode Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Ekstrak kulit buah salak pondoh (EPP) mengandung persentase karbohidrat (41,33%), mineral (28,37%), dan air (25,31%) yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan persentase serat kasar (3,68%), lemak (2,62%), protein (2,37%), dan vitamin C (0,88%). Hasil GC-MS mengidentifikasi adanya 75 fitokimia di mana dua dari lima senyawa dengan proporsi tertinggi adalah metil ester asam heksadekanoat dan asam n-heksadekanoat. Kandungan fitokimia tersebut memiliki aktivitas biologis yang berpotensi untuk pengembangan terapi obesitas. Perlu dilakukan penelitian lanjutan secara in vitro dan in vivo untuk mengevaluasi sifat anti- obesitas EPP tersebut.

Abstract

Anemia adalah salah satu masalah kesehatan yang banyak terjadi di negara berkembang, tidak terkecuali di Indonesia. Terdapat banyak cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi anemia defisiensi besi, salah satunya adalah melalui pemberian makanan tambahan yang mengandung zat besi. Biji salak merupakan bahan alam yang belum banyak dimanfaatkan dan memiliki kandungan zat besi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah pemanfaatan biji salak sebagai bahan baku jeli yang memiliki sensori yang dapat diterima dan disukai. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan perbedaan ukuran tepung biji salak dan jenis tepung pembentuk jeli, sehingga menghasilkan formulasi yakni F1 (80 mesh dan tepung agar-agar), F2 (100 mesh dan tepung agar-agar), F3 (80 mesh dan tepung puding), F4 (100 mesh dan tepung puding). Keempat formulasi dinilai oleh 30 panelis menggunakan uji hedonik dengan parameter warna, aroma, rasa, tekstur, dan overall. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan software SPSS. Uji normalitas menunjukkan nilai p<0,05 sehingga menggunakan uji non parametrik Kruskal-Wallis dan dilanjutkan Mann-Whitney pada taraf kepercayaan 95%. Selanjutnya, perlakuan terbaik ditentukan menggunakan uji efektivitas. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, parameter aroma, tekstur, dan overall tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (p>0,05), sedangkan pada parameter warna dan rasa menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05). Rerata tertinggi pada warna, aroma, rasa, tekstur, dan overall masing-masing adalah 5,77 (F3); 5,47 (F3); 4,47 (F4); 3,97 (F3 dan F4); dan 4,37 (F4). Perlakuan terbaik adalah F4 karena mendapatkan nilai produk tertingi yakni 0,84

Abstract

Purpose: This study was to analyze the administration of breadfruti leaf extract to changes in biochemical parameters and renal histology in hyperoxaluria rats.Methodology: The experimental study used 6 groups, each of 5 mice that are EG, Normal, Vitamin E, an ethanol extract of breadfruit 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg BW. Blood data for the analysis of biochemical parameters and kidney were taken at the end of the experiment for histological analysis of kidney changes. Results: Research shows that the purified ethanol extract of breadfruit leaf can prevent increases in MDA levels, reduce creatinine and BUN levels, increase body weight, prevent hypertrophy and kidney damage Conclusion: Purified ethanol extract of AA leaves has an antioxidant, nephroprotective activity, protect kidney inflammation, and kidney damage in nephrolithiasis rats and the effective dose is 400 mg/kg BW. The higher the extract dose, the more effective to reduce the biochemical and histopathological parameters in hyperoxaluria rats.Applications/Originality/Value: as a basis for futher studies of molecular biology in the prevention of kidney disorder.

Abstract

Background: Young women can suffer from anemia due to monthly menstruation and by having many activities without adequate iron-filled nutrition. Otherproblems found on them are overweight and obesity. The data show that one with overweight or obesity can lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) along with increasingproinflammatory cytokines, which will cause the transcription of hepcidin. The increaseof hepcidin transcription will inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestine into the circulation, inhibiting spending iron reserves into circulation, and inhibitingthe release of iron recycled from splenic macrophages. This can cause IDA. The purpose of this study was to obtain the proportion of iron deficiency anemia in overweight or obese young women.Methods: The design of this study was cross sectional using purposive sampling. The subjects of this study were the student from fiveselected Senior high schools inBoyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. The determination of IDAis done by using hemoglobin and indexes of erythrocytes. Results: This study was the follow-upof the previous study, which was conducted to 14 obese and/or overweightyoung women withanemia From 14 subjects, there wasone subject suffered from other anemia and 13 subjects with IDA (using index erythrocytes examination). Their mean of MCV was 72.68±4.29fl, MCH was 23.08±2.63pg, and MCHC was 35.21±0.65 %.Conclusions: From this study, almost all overweight or obeseyoung women with anemia were indicated as IDA (92.8%).

Abstract

Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient with important antioxidant and physiological roles. However, it is highly unstable during processing due to its sensitivity to heat, oxygen, and light. This scoping review mapped evidence on drying-based encapsulation techniques: freeze drying, spray drying, and foam-mat drying. It examines their effect on the vitamin C level in fruit powder. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer, MDPI, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2015 and 2025. The search followed the PRISMA-ScR framework. Seven studies met the criteria and covered acerola, camu-camu, banana, açaí, papaya, satsuma mandarin, orange peel, and mulberry. The findings show that freeze-drying was consistently the most effective technique for retaining vitamin C levels. Some studies even reported an increase in vitamin C levels, possibly due to the breakdown of the fruit matrix, which made the nutrient more available. During Spray drying, low retention values (11%) were obtained in banana paste, and almost total retention (99%) was achieved in camu-camu pulp. The retention of mulberry juice during optimized foam-mat drying amounted to a maximum level of 90%. Coating materials, such as gum Arabic (GA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), provided better stability in vitamin C levels. However, there are some gaps regarding encapsulation efficiency, degradation kinetics, and particular mechanisms of the matrix that could clarify retention rates beyond 100%. Thus, future studies should focus on these parameters for the refinement of scalable yet low-cost drying strategies of functional fruit powders.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which the body experiences a lack of Hb in the blood. One of the causes of anemia is the need for iron and protein that is not fulfilled by the daily intake. Snake fruit seed flour and red beans have high potential to be developed into health-beneficial products such as snacks. The purpose of this study was to develop snack bars as a treatment for anemia in adolescent girls and to analyze hedonic tests, microbiological contamination, and nutritional content. The data analysis used was the Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn's Post-Hoc test. This study shows that the snack bar formulation of snake fruit seed flour and red bean has a statistically significant effect with a p-value <0.05. Based on the level of liking of high school adolescent girls, the most preferred formulations are formulations P0 and P3. The P0 treatment has nutritional content (carbohydrate 43.33%, protein 14.30%, fat 19.70%, total calories 400 Kcal, iron 3.6 mg, vitamin C 24.5 mg, and zinc 4.8 mg) and the P3 formulation has nutritional content (carbohydrate 49.49%, protein 10.71%, fat 13.53%, total calories 360 Kcal, iron 11.4 mg, vitamin C 28.0 mg, and zinc 5.2 mg), so it has the potential to innovate supplementary feeding for anemic adolescent girls.
