Abstract

This study aims to analyze the training needs of mathematics teachers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum through a systematic literature review and online focus group discussions. The background of this research is the limited readiness of teachers in understanding and applying the core principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly in mathematics instruction at the junior high school level. A qualitative method was employed, combining a systematic review of relevant policy documents and journal articles with data obtained from virtual discussions involving mathematics teachers. The findings reveal that teachers require training that is practical, contextual, and grounded in classroom experiences, especially concerning differentiated instruction, formative assessment, and the integration of technology in learning. This study recommends the development of training programs tailored to teachers' actual needs and the strengthening of professional collaboration among educators to support continuous curriculum implementation.

Abstract

In 2023, the processing of public reports at the West Kalimantan Ombudsman was not yet at the level of quality standards in terms of the time it takes to resolve reports. The purpose of the study is to explain how well the West Kalimantan Ombudsman is meeting the 2023 standard quality benchmarks of report resolution time and what factors influence it. The study is qualitative in nature and employs a descriptive methodology.. The methods of data collection were interviews and documentation studies, and the research subjects were Ombudsman representatives and the population. The findings reveal that the achievement of the standard quality benchmarks of report resolution time was not yet effective, as the productivity criterion revealed that 67 out of 136 reports were delayed; the adaptation to assistant shortages was not yet optimal, as the process of achieving time benchmarks did not involve PVL (Public Complaints Handling) and Prevention assistants; the job satisfaction of assistants was quite good but did not ensure the effectiveness of work because of the absence of regular training and capacity building by the institution. The inadequate number of assistants to satisfy the organizational demands, the slow coordination with the related agencies, particularly, at the clarification stage, the variety of working peculiarities of assistants that demand flexible managerial approaches, and the lack of particular report resolution time objectives in representative management are the factors that hinder effectiveness. The assistant job satisfaction was quite satisfactory, but the absence of regular training and capacity building also did not contribute to the best performance. It is recommended based on the findings that the West Kalimantan Ombudsman should enhance its working network by signing Memorandums of Understanding with regional heads in West Kalimantan and government agencies to speed up the resolution of reports. Keywords: Effectiveness; Ombudsman; Public Reports; Time Quality Benchmark

Abstract

This community service activity aims to strengthen the critical thinking skills of vocational high school students through creative short story writing workshops. The main challenges faced by students include low levels of critical thinking and creative writing skills, particularly in identifying problems, formulating conflicts, and structuring a logical plot. This community service employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes leveraging the potential and assets possessed by students and the school. The implementation method included the Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny phases, carried out through training, mentoring, discussions, and a structured short story writing activity. Evaluation was conducted using a pretest and posttest design involving 40 students. The pretest results indicated that students’ initial abilities fell into the moderate category, with scores predominantly ranging from 60 to 75. Following the training, the posttest results showed a significant improvement, with the majority of students achieving scores in the 80–90 range. These research results suggest that creative short story writing training is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills, writing abilities, and self-confidence in communicating ideas in writing. Thus, creative short story writing training based on the ABCD approach can serve as a relevant alternative learning strategy for strengthening literacy and developing 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

Human communication can be carried out through the use of language. Indonesian is not merely a tool for communication but also a unifying force for the Indonesian people. A language that adheres to its rules without deviation in many aspects is the official language of Indonesia and is used as a form of verbal or written communication, both formal and informal. The Indonesian people should be proud to have a language that can represent their feelings and thoughts. The existence of the Indonesian language in its current condition demands that the identity of the Indonesian language be cultivated and socialized by every Indonesian citizen. Mastering and loving the national language as an Indonesian citizen who loves the homeland is a matter of pride, identity, and a hallmark of Indonesia, as it is the language of unity. Even though you have learned foreign languages, it does not mean that you immediately forget the Indonesian language and its prestige. With our language of unity, which is Indonesian, loving and using Indonesian in accordance with language rules and maintaining it is an implication for preserving the existence of Indonesian through linguistic attitudes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine persuasive discourse in buying and selling interactions at the Lok Baintan Floating Market, Banjar Regency. The focus of the research is the function of persuasive discourse in buying and selling interactions. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on Aristotle's rhetorical theory, namely ethos, pathos, and logos. This approach is used to deeply understand the function of persuasive discourse that appears in buying and selling interactions naturally and contextually. Research data were obtained through direct participatory observation techniques on the communication activities of traders and buyers at the Lok Baintan Floating Market, in-depth interviews with several traders and buyers, and documentation in the form of audioand visual recordings and field notes. Research informants were selected purposively based on their active involvement in buying and selling interactions. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model of discourse analysis techniques, which include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was strengthened through triangulation using member checking. The results of the study indicate that persuasive discourse in buying and selling interactions at the floating market has functions including inviting, ordering, persuading, convincing, and giving advice. This research contributes to the study of local cultural linguistics and communication, as well as the preservation of traditional markets as cultural heritage.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted in Pantai Amal Village, Tarakan City, aiming to introduce and preserve traditional games that are increasingly neglected due to the dominance of gadgets among children. The program began with a brief socialization session on the importance of preserving traditional games in the digital era, followed by the practice of five traditional games: marbles, rubber jump, congklak, cabang, and bekel ball. Pre-test results showed that most children were unfamiliar with the rules and gameplay, while post-test results indicated a significant improvement in their understanding and ability to play. Children demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout the activity and even requested for future sessions. This program serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium to strengthen physical health, cognitive skills, social character, and local cultural preservation. Therefore, the activity contributes to maintaining socio-cultural identity in coastal communities and offers a relevant non-formal educational alternative.
