Abstract

Gembongan Village, located in Ponggok Sub-district, Blitar Regency, East Java Province, possesses significant potential in the agricultural sector, particularly in corn cultivation. Known for its abundant corn production, the local community is often seen drying corn in front of their houses. However, during the harvest season, the increase in yields gives rise to environmental issues due to the accumulation of unused corn cobs, with only a small portion being repurposed as fuel. This significant volume of agricultural waste necessitates proper management. One proposed solution is to utilize corn cobs as a growing medium for janggel mushrooms (a local variety of mushroom) to support the green economy, as well as a raw material for making organic fertilizer to produce high-quality products using the fermentation method. This community service aims to provide innovative solutions to the corn cob waste problem while building sustainable partnerships with Gembongan Village in line with SDGs 3 and 17. The community service methods applied include field observation for identifying potential and problems, socialization regarding agricultural waste management, hands-on training for making mushroom growing media and organic fertilizer, and continuous mentoring in the form of monitoring and evaluation. The results show that after the training, there was a significant increase in all aspects, with 100% of the participants knowing how to make the mushroom growing media and 92% knowing how to make solid organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Available datas on metabolic syndrome among Indonesian executives are limited, despite the fact of the importance of these data for cardiovaskular prevention. The objective of this study was to assess prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its associations between anthropometric measures, lipid profiles, blood pressure, nutrient intakes, and life style in executive group. A cross sectional study was undertaken in some factories in Jakarta, using multistage random sampling. The respondents were 287 executives, 219 male and 68 female. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements, biochemical blood analysis, nutrient intake, stress score, and activity index assessment. Multiple logistic regression analysis used to assess associations between independent variables and metabolic syndrome. This study showed that body mass index (overweight, odds ratio (OR) = 5,54; obesity, OR = 7,44) and ratio serum total cholesterol to high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol (OR = 8,83) were potential determinants of metabolic syndrome. This study shows the importance of routine check of lipid profile, blood pressure, and simple anthropometric assessment to detect the risk of metabolic syndrome in the elderly.

Abstract

Smoking is a serious global public health issue, especially in low-income countries, including Indonesia, where the prevalence of smoking among adolescents has reached alarming levels. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parenting patterns, parental smoking behavior, and parental communication on adolescent smoking behavior. Using an analytical observational method and a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 60 male students at a high school in Aceh. The results indicate that democratic parenting styles, parental smoking behavior, and effective communication are significantly related to the risk of smoking among adolescents. Adolescents raised in family environments with open communication and positive parenting styles have a lower risk of smoking. These findings underscore the importance of parental roles in preventing smoking behavior among adolescents and recommend interventions focusing on raising parental awareness of the impact of their behavior on their children.

Abstract

One of the problems faced by MSMEs is the difficulty of obtaining capital from outside parties. After conducting interviews with the Bogor Regency MSME association which accommodates about 700,000 MSMEs, information was obtained that one of the causes of the funding difficulties was the unavailability of a business plan by MSMEs. This was also confirmed through answers from MSMEs trainees, where 100% of MSMEs did not have a written business plan either manually or digitally. The method for community development activities is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes meeting needs and solving problems in the community. The Business Model Canvas method was chosen for making MSMEs' business plan by reviewing the literature and paying attention to best practices. After attending the training, all MSMEs understand the Business Model Canvas (BMC). After understanding BMC, all MSMEs created business models in groups with assistance from community engagement team (authors). MSMEs fill all blocks relatively well in BMC, but there needs to be an increase in filling customer segments and cost structure. Next, the business model created by the MSME is input into a digital application, which is ready to be printed by the MSME (carried out in the next activity). It is hoped that this business model in digital and print form will answer one of the administrative obstacles in obtaining external funding.

Abstract

Financial performance is an important instrument used to determine whether a company is in health conditions or not. The way to measure financial performance is to look at profitability ratios through ROA and market ratios through EPS. The purpose of this research are to obtain empirical evidence regarding the influence of CSR and GCG on the financial performance of government banking as measured using ROA and EPS. This study uses secondary data, the population used are government banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2007-2021. The sample selection used a purposive sampling method and obtained 60 observational data. The analytical method in this study used panel data regression analysis which was processed using Eviews version 12 with the random effect model method for the ROA ratio and the fixed effect model for the EPS ratio. The results of this study indicate that CSR and GCG as measured through independent board have a significant effect on the financial performance of government banking, then GCG as measured using an audit committee has a significant effect on financial performance as measured by EPS, then the audit committee on ROA and institutional ownership does not significant effect on financial performance as measured by ROA and EPS.Keywords: CSR, GCG, Audit Committee, Independent Board, Institutional Ownership, ROA, EPS

Abstract

As educational leadership increasingly recognizes the pivotal role of coaching competence, this study delves into the nuanced landscape of coaching competencies exhibited by a cohort of 2022 school principal candidates. Amidst the expectations for exemplary instructional leadership, this study reveals a disconcerting reality – school principal candidates exhibit coaching competence only at a fair level, falling short of the desired excellence. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative research design, the authors scrutinized the coaching competence of a diverse cohort of principal candidates through questionnaires and in-depth interviews. Results illuminate specific challenges in coaching, ranging from limited practical application of coaching skills to gaps in mentorship opportunities. Despite the fair level of competence, the study identifies untapped opportunities for improvement, suggesting tailored training and professional development initiatives. The findings not only contribute to the current discourse on coaching competence but also underscore the critical need for targeted interventions to elevate the proficiency of school principal candidates in navigating the complexities of educational leadership.
