Abstract

Maeswara Basket faces problems with manual flattening tools that are ineffective in producing crafts from water hyacinth fibre. The proposed solution is developing a flattening tool by considering ergonomics, work safety, speed settings, and primary controls features. This study uses a community-based research (CBR) approach with five stages: problem identification, literature analysis, design planning, manufacturing, and evaluation. Six people assessed the flattening tool based on ease of use, process efficiency, quality of results, and overall evaluation using a Likert scale of 1-5. The results showed that the tool met important criteria such as ergonomics, ease of operation, flattening speed, thickness consistency, quality of results, and component durability, with scores ranging from 4.3 to 4.8 out of 5.0, categorized as "very satisfactory." The new tool excels in ease of use, process efficiency, and quality of results, with the main features of speed settings and controls that maintain the stability of fibre size during the flattening process. This study contributes to the development of products according to community needs. It has the potential to increase the production capacity of water hyacinth artisans, with opportunities for further development using automation technology.

Abstract

Sumberadi Village is one of the villages in Kebumen District, Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province. Sumberadi Village has several facilities managed by the village government, including catfish farming using the biofloc method. The biofloc method has advantages, including reducing water usage during cultivation, reducing water waste, and increasing catfish productivity. Catfish is a type of freshwater fish that is easy to cultivate and high in nutritional content. Catfish contain high protein and are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals for children's growth and development. Catfish cultivation in Sumberadi Village usually results in the harvest being sold live or raw. Direct sales in live or raw conditions require that the catfish are sold out because they are not fresh if stored for a long time. If the sale of catfish is made into processed products, it can increase the selling price and become a superior product of Sumberadi Village. In addition, the Sumberadi Village community can also be more productive and increase entrepreneurial spirit and income by making processed catfish products. The purpose of implementing community service in Sumberadi Village is to increase community knowledge related to the potential and benefits of catfish for health and child development and increase community skills in processing catfish into fried catfish sistik. This community service activity was carried out in several stages, namely, surveys and location observations to approach village officials and the community, socialization with the village community, and the implementation of making fried catfish sistik. Based on the community service activities that have been carried out, it can be concluded that participants' knowledge and skills in making fried catfish sistik products have increased; participants can accept fried catfish cystic products produced as consumers in terms of taste, shape, and packaging

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the scientific writing skills of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) employees, enabling them to transform performance reports into academic publications. Using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program identified challenges and implemented structured solutions through scaffolding techniques. Conducted at the Human Resource Development Agency for Energy and Mineral Resources (HRDA-EMR) in Bandung, the program involved 24 participants from eight divisions. The implementation consisted of three phases: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The preparation phase analyzed participants’ characteristics to ensure equitable group distribution. The execution phase applied scaffolding across four stages: identifying relevant literature, understanding research methodologies, structuring article components, and developing detailed narratives. Each stage incorporated guidance, hands-on assignments, and peer discussions to support participants' learning process. The evaluation phase measured participants' competency improvements and the program’s effectiveness. Results demonstrated a significant increase in participants’ academic writing abilities, as evidenced by completed and submitted articles. The scaffolding approach effectively addressed individual challenges, promoted critical thinking, and facilitated gradual skill development. This program highlights the potential of scaffolding in enhancing academic writing skills across various professional fields. Future programs should consider integrating digital tools and emphasizing post-submission strategies to better prepare participants for global scientific engagement.
