Abstract

Coastal communities in Indonesia face limited access to clean water because water sources are dominated by seawater and the availability of fresh water is extremely limited. This problem creates a need for innovative and sustainable solutions that can be applied in everyday life and utilized in science learning. This study aims to design and test the feasibility of a solar panel–based seawater purifier as a contextual physics learning medium and a means of providing clean water for coastal communities. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), conducted through the stages of needs analysis, design, prototyping, expert validation, and limited field trials. Data collected includes expert validation results, practicality assessments by teachers and students, and empirical measurements of water quality such as pH, TDS, salinity, specific gravity, ORP, and EC. Qualitative findings from the validators indicate that this tool has good functionality, is relevant for learning, is easy to use, and is safe to operate. The results show an average validity of 3.73 (very valid) and practicality of 3.60 from students and 3.86 from teachers (very practical category). Water quality tests showed a pH of 6.83, TDS of 124 ppm, which meets WHO standards (TDS < 500 ppm), salinity of 0.01%, specific gravity (SG) of 1.00, ORP of 224 mV, and EC of 0 µS/cm, indicating that the water is suitable for consumption. Thus, the aim of the research is to produce a valid, practical seawater purifier and provide a sustainable alternative solution for the clean water needs of coastal communities.

Abstract

Students who can compete and follow the development of science and technology in the 21st century are students who have skills with high-level and creative thinking. Hence, students can practice their thinking skills to think and reason to find out the solutions to answer complex problems that will come possibly. It can be seen from the cognitive skills based on the indicators of creative skill. To improve this skill, it is necessary for the researchers to apply innovative learning-oriented high-order thinking skills. One of them is STEM as project-based learning (Pjbl-STEM). The purpose of the research is to see the students' higher-order thinking skills on the indicators of creative skill with Pjbl-STEM. The type of research used is quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent post-test-only control group design. The method of data collection is collected by providing a test with a research instrument of a higher-order thinking skills questionnaire on the indicators of creative skill. The analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results showed that the difference between the average class applying Pjbl-STEM and the class applying conventional learning was positive.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limitations of physics learning media in high schools, especially in magnetism materials, which are abstract and difficult to understand without the support of appropriate experimental tools. This condition hinders students' ability to relate theory to real phenomena. This research aims to develop and test the feasibility of a relative permeability experiment tool for metal materials as a high school physics learning medium. This tool is designed to help students understand the concept of magnetism, especially the relationship between the number of turns, voltage, current strength, magnetic induction, and relative permeability in various types of metals. The research method used is research and development (R&D). The test results show that steel has an average relative permeability value (μr) of 3.9, which indicates strong ferromagnetic properties, while iron has an μr of around 1.4 with moderate ferromagnetic properties. Aluminum with an average μr of 1.0 and brass, with an average μr of 0.7 are classified as non-ferromagnetic. Thus, this test tool can clearly distinguish ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials based on their relative permeability values. Validation was conducted by three experts, with an average value of 3.77, which is considered very high. Furthermore, a practicality test involving 16 high school physics teachers showed a very high practicality category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the developed relative permeability experiment tool is valid, practical, and suitable for use as a physics learning medium to improve students' understanding of the concept of magnetism

Abstract

In improving students' conceptual understanding of a learning material, an efficient and effective learning model is needed. One of the efficient and effective learning models in improving conceptual understanding is the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition learning model assisted by Kahoot. This study aims to describe students' conceptual understanding by implementing the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition learning model assisted by Kahoot on the material of temperature and expansion. In addition, this study was conducted to determine the differences in students' conceptual understanding using the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition learning model assisted by Kahoot with conventional learning models on the material of temperature and expansion as a solution to improve the conceptual understanding of grade XI students on the material of temperature and expansion. This study used a quasi-experimental research type with a posttest-only control group design. The research data were in the form of posttest results of conceptual understanding which were processed quantitatively. The results showed that the experimental class had a higher average conceptual understanding ability score than the control group. The experimental class obtained an average score of 85.03 with a very good category and the control class obtained an average of 75.69 with a good category.
