Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs seawater purification devices by utilising solars panels as a medium for learning physics, the research method used is descriptive with a survey approach, involving 23 teachers and 73 students in junior high and senior high schools in Riau Province. The survey results showed that most students felt that learning physics was difficult to understand, especially in renewable energy materials. The experimental method is the main choice in learning physics, but the limitations of experimental tools, include seawater purification devices by utilising solars panels, inhibits hands-on learning. This tool is not only relevant to support contextual physics learning but also provides insight into the use of renewable energy. This tool helps students understand the concept of physics, the use of this seawater purifier also provides an opportunity to teach students about very relevant environmental issues, such as the scarcity of clean water. The results of the study indicate that the provision of this tool is very necessary to improve students' understanding of physics concepts in a concrete and applicable manner.

Abstract

One of the physics materials that is included in the abstract category is optical devices, especially the process of light entering the eye through a lens that cannot be seen directly by humans. The use of learning media combined with virtual reality is an alternative problem by providing visualization of material that becomes concrete in 3D or can be seen in 360°, making it easier for teachers and students in the learning process. This research aims to determine the feasibility of virtual reality-based learning media for optical devices in order to increase understanding of concepts in optical equipment, especially eyes and glasses. Validity testing is carried out by validating the learning media by experts and practicality testing is carried out by testing the media on teachers and high school students. The results of the research show that the average value of the validity test for virtual reality-based learning media reached 87% with valid criteria and while the practicality test by teachers and students obtained an average score of 90% by teachers and 89% by students with practical criteria so that the media Virtual reality-based learning is suitable for use to help the learning process in schools. Based on the validity and practicality analysis, the media can be used in real learning processes and can be tested further regarding its effectiveness.

Abstract

This descriptive research was conducted at Rantau Kopar village, Rokan Hilir District from January to June 2017. The reason for this study is due to the drastic declining of biodiversity of fish species at Rangau river despite the existence  the local wisdom to protect the watershed in the area. It is aimed to discover the perspectives local wisdom in preventing the decreasing of fish biodiversity at  Rangau river. The employed sampling technique was snowball technic sampling which involved 30 respondents. The primary data were obtained using observation and interview; the secondary data (documents). Data consist of community composition, livelihood, community participation in preserving the local wisdom, the synergy between the local wisdom and the policies of the local administration. The data were computed in percentage and were analyzed descriptively. The findings demonstrated that the local wisdom was compiled by the local community whose livelihood as fishermen. Conversely, in 2017, the local people did not comply with both sanction and the local customary law, there had been careless exploitation of the water across the watershed to be oil palm plantation area and the increasing number of oil palm farmers. This study concludes that the main threat facing the local wisdom is that the policies of local administration are not synergic with the local wisdom as stipulated in the regulations and conservation of the area across the watershed of Rangau. The implication of this study is used for the supplementary materials for the bioetnomalay subject in the Indonesian education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the necessity of virtual reality (VR)-based learning media for teaching Earth and Solar System content at the junior high school level. The central issue addressed is the development of innovative educational tools that incorporate VR technology to facilitate the learning of abstract scientific concepts. A quantitative approach employing a survey method was utilized, involving 80 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru. Participants were selected through convenience sampling based on availability. Data were gathered using an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms over a two-week period and analyzed descriptively. Findings revealed that 56% of students experienced difficulties in comprehending Earth and Solar System material due to its abstract nature. Furthermore, 92% expressed a strong need for learning media capable of transforming abstract content into concrete visual representations to enhance conceptual understanding. These results underscore a significant demand for VR-based instructional media in science education, particularly in topics requiring high levels of visualization. The study implies that integrating virtual reality into the classroom could effectively address existing learning barriers, increase student engagement, and support the development of a deeper understanding of scientific phenomena through immersive technological experiences.Keywords: learning media, earth, solar system, virtual reality,

Abstract

Pembaharuan kurikulum menjadi tantangan baru di ranah pendidikan untuk mampu menciptakan karakteristik siswa berdasarkan proses evaluasi belajar mengajar di kelas. Dampak pembaharuan dapat dilihat berdasarkan ada tidaknya kegiatan stimulus sebelum memasuki pembelajaran. Kurikulum merdeka memungkinkan guru untuk berfokus pada kemampuan dan karakteristik siswa saat menerapkan kurikulum yang disesuaikan dengan bakat dan minat siswa. Penelitian dilakukan dari November hingga Desember 2023 di SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru, yang melibatkan 193 siswa di kelas VIII, yang melakukan asesmen diagnostik pada materi pesawat sederhana untuk mengetahui kemampuan kognitif dan sikap belajar siswa. Metode sampel proporsional random digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan sampel menggunakan rumus Slovin dengan kepercayaan 90% dan taraf kesalahan 10%, sampel sebanyak 66 siswa diambil. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian survei. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari tes kognitif dengan model soal pilihan ganda sebanyak 15 butir soal pada materi pesawat sederhana dan tes non-kognitif dengan model angket sikap belajar sebanyak 25 butir pernyataan yang diberikan kepada siswa. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif. Penelitian bermanfaat sebagai pedoman dalam penerapan asesmen diagnostik serta dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif dan non-kognitif siswa pada materi pesawat sederhana di kelas VIII.

Abstract

Literasi sains adalah keterampilan abad ke-21 yang perlu dikuasi oleh setiap siswa. Melek sains akan membuat orang mampu menghadapi masalah-masalah di abad ke-21. Dengan demikian, hal tersebut juga menjadi tantangan baru bagi dunia pendidikan dalam mempersiapkan peserta didik yang melihat jelas bagaimana sains. Sebab, dengan begitu siswa akan lebih mudah dalam mengatasi permasalahan ilmiah yang terjadi di sekitarnya. Oleh karena itu, upaya dalam meningkatkan keterampilan literasi sains ini sudah banyak berbagai cara. Untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa, model pembelajaran ICARE diimplementasikan dalam penelitian ini melalui penggunaan aplikasi assemblr edu. Bulan November hingga Desember di MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru penelitian ini dilakukan. Sebanyak 320 siswa dari seluruh kelas VII menjadi populasi penelitian ini. Dua kelas yang telah menjalani uji homogenitas dan normalitas menjadi sampel penelitian. Tes yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengumpulkan data meliputi tes kemampuan pengukuran literasi sains. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen lebih besar daripada kelas kontrol. Hal ini menunjukkan seberapa baik aplikasi Assemblr edu dan paradigma pembelajaran ICARE bekerja sama.

Abstract

There are several ways to purify sea water to make it suitable for use, one of which is:is through a purification process by utilizing solar energy. Apart from being cheap, this energy is also renewable and highly available abundant in tropical areas. Solar energy is an important component for Human survival because human life activities are very dependent on energy availability. This research examines solar panel-based sea water purification devices as a physics learning medium in secondary schools. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research analyzes various studies on the development of sea water purification equipment that utilizes solar panels. This study highlights relevant physical material such as thermodynamics and renewable energy, which is used as a basis for developing sea water purification devices using solar panels. In addition, this research identifies variations in the tools and materials used in the desalination process, as well as the application of these tools in the context of physics learning.

Abstract

The low achievement of student learning outcomes is due to the lack of interest and activity of students in the learning process. Students do not understand the material and are not active during learning due to the monotonous learning model. This study is to describe and determine the effectiveness of the application of the ARIAS learning model combined with a virtual lab on motion and force materials in improving the cognitive learning outcomes of grade VII students of SMPN 1 Bangko Pusako. The study used a quasi-experiment approach with a Non-Equivalent Post-test Only Group Design. The sample consisted of two classes, namely the control class (28 students) and the experimental class (29 students). The research instrument is in the form of an objective test to determine students' cognitive learning outcomes. The data were analyzed through normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. The results of the study stated that there was a significant difference in the cognitive learning outcomes of students in both classes. The average score of the experimental class was 71.7 (good category), and the control class got an average score of 53 (good category). After the Mann-Whitney U Test, a significance value of 0.000 (0.05) was obtained, so it was concluded that the virtual lab-assisted ARIAS model was effective in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes on motion and force materials.

Abstract

Limbah sabut kelapa merupakan salah satu permasalahan lingkungan di daerah pesisir, termasuk Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, Provinsi Riau, yang dikenal sebagai sentra perkebunan kelapa terbesar. Pemanfaatan kelapa lebih terfokus pada buah, sementara sabut sering terbuang dan menumpuk sehingga berpotensi mencemari lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat khususny Ibu-ibu PKK ini bertujuan untuk memberikan solusi inovatif dalam pengolahan limbah sabut kelapa melalui  pemanfaatan  lateks sebagai bahan perekat ramah lingkungan untuk menghasilkan produk kerajinan yang bernilai guna. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui tahapan identifikasi masalah, perencanaan program, pelatihan, praktik langsung, serta evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengolah sabut kelapa menjadi berbagai produk kerajinan, seperti pot bunga yang memiliki kekuatan dan nilai estetika lebih baik berkat penggunaan lateks. Selain itu, masyarakat menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi serta minat untuk mengembangkan keterampilan ini sebagai peluang usaha kreatif. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini berkontribusi dalam mengurangi limbah sabut kelapa, dan mendukung pemberdayaan ekonomi masyarakat pesisir melalui pemanfaatan potensi lokal secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Coastal communities in Indonesia face limited access to clean water because water sources are dominated by seawater and the availability of fresh water is extremely limited. This problem creates a need for innovative and sustainable solutions that can be applied in everyday life and utilized in science learning. This study aims to design and test the feasibility of a solar panel–based seawater purifier as a contextual physics learning medium and a means of providing clean water for coastal communities. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), conducted through the stages of needs analysis, design, prototyping, expert validation, and limited field trials. Data collected includes expert validation results, practicality assessments by teachers and students, and empirical measurements of water quality such as pH, TDS, salinity, specific gravity, ORP, and EC. Qualitative findings from the validators indicate that this tool has good functionality, is relevant for learning, is easy to use, and is safe to operate. The results show an average validity of 3.73 (very valid) and practicality of 3.60 from students and 3.86 from teachers (very practical category). Water quality tests showed a pH of 6.83, TDS of 124 ppm, which meets WHO standards (TDS < 500 ppm), salinity of 0.01%, specific gravity (SG) of 1.00, ORP of 224 mV, and EC of 0 µS/cm, indicating that the water is suitable for consumption. Thus, the aim of the research is to produce a valid, practical seawater purifier and provide a sustainable alternative solution for the clean water needs of coastal communities.
