Abstract

The choice of student learning models significantly influences student learning results, underscoring the importance for educators to employ models that align with the content being taught. One such model is Discovery Learning, particularly applicable in the field of biology. This approach guides students toward conclusions by fostering an understanding of concepts, meanings, and relationships through intuitive processes. The aim of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of applying the Discovery Learning model in the field of biology education by analyzing the educational results following its implementation. The research methodology involves a literature review as part of the descriptive analysis approach. The findings from the literature review indicate that employing the model of Discovery Learning with or without additional media and learning strategies, positively affects the biology learning objectives of students. The discernible enhancement in student performance in Biology following the implementation of the Discovery Learning model substantiates its effectiveness. In summary, based on the insights derived from the literature review, the use of the Discovery Learning approach to biology instruction has been found to be helpful in improving student learning results.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with vast animal diversity. In Kalimantan Island, there is an endemic animal that is rarely sighted and endangered, this animal is called Red Cat. Kalimantan Red Cat or Borneo Bay Cat (Catopuma badia) is a protected wild cat in Indonesia. The spread of these cats is also found in Northern Kalimantan which is in Sabah and Sarawak of Malaysia, it's also found in Indonesian forest. Red cats have dark chestnut red and faintly spotted fur, short rounded heads with orange-brown color. The ears of these cats are either black or dark brown colored, and its tail has a white line with dark spot at the tip of the tail. Until now, the population of these cats are unknown and categorized in an endangered conservation status by IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list. Based on its status, the Kalimantan red cat is facing extinction risk in nature. Its status is endangered. The main problem is the lack of research information about its ecology and biology. These are very influential in conservation efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the condition of the coral reef ecosystem on Tidung Kecil Island, Seribu Islands. Observational data collection was carried out in June 2022. The method used in this study was descriptive with the Line Interval Transect (LIT) technique with two repetitions, with the distance between the transect points being 10 meters. 2 repetitions aim to represent the coral cover data on the island's northern part. The data taken are the length and type of coral reef growth, which is then processed to be included in the coral cover area formula. Observational data were then analyzed using the coral cover percentage formula to calculate live coral growth and continued calculating the percentage cover for all categories of live coral lifeforms. Based on the observations, the condition of the coral cover area in the study area is classified as bad, with a percentage of coral cover area of 18.63% and a percentage of non-coral substrate of 48.7%. This is due to the high human activity (such as fishing) and tourism (such as snorkeling).

Abstract

Indonesia memiliki kekayaan hayati yang sangat beragam sehingga menjadikannya fokus utama dalam menjaga keanekaragaman hayati, termasuk diantaranya adalah perlindungan burung. Tingginya kerentanan burung disebabkan oleh tingginya populasi manusia. Elang bondol (Haliastur indus) resmi dijadikan sebagai maskot Ibukota Jakarta karena burung ini mulai terancam keberadaannya. Populasi elang bondol terus mengalami penurunan tidak hanya di Indonesia, tetapi juga di hampir semua wilayah persebarannya. Menurut IUCN red list, elang bondol (Haliastur indus) menjadi sasaran perburuan terbanyak untuk perdagangan satwa liar. Salah satu langkah untuk memelihara jumlah populasi adalah dengan melakukan upaya konservasi dan membebaskan elang bondol kembali ke habitat alaminya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti lokasi pusat konservasi elang bondol di DKI Jakarta. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi literatur mengenai konservasi elang bondol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persebaran elang bondol di Jakarta terpusat pada kawasan konservasi Pulau Kotok dan Taman Margasatwa Ragunan.

Abstract

Sikap ilmiah ialah kecenderungan seseorang untuk berperilaku atau bertindak dalam memecahkan permasalahan secara sistematis denga langkah – langkah ilmiah. Peningkatan sikap ilmiah pada proses belajar akan mengembangkan suatu kemampuan berpikir siswa. Kemampuan berpikir kritis ialah kemampuan seseorang dalam menganalisis, mengevaluasi, dan menarik kesimpulan dari suatu informasi dengan difokuskan pada menerapkan solusi permasalahan yang dihadapi. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui hubungan sikap ilmiah dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi perubahan lingkungan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan metode deskriptif melalui studi korelasional. Sampel penelitian 106 siswa dipilih dengan teknik pemilihan sampel bertingkat. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik survei kuesioner, diukur menggunakan instrumen sikap ilmiah serta kemampuan berpikir kritis. Pengujian hipotesis dengan analisis regresi diperoleh bentuk hubungan linear dan signifikan antara sikap ilmiah dan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu terdapat.hubungan positif antara sikap ilmiah dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi perubahan.lingkungan dengan kriteria tingkat hubungan lemah.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Eclectus is one of many birds in Indonesia. The condition at captive may vary to the bird’s natural habitat. The objective of this research was to find out the comparison of daily behavior between two males Eclectus parrot at Ragunan Zoological park. Each males has different condition. The first male has a competitior in its cage, and the second male hasn’t. This research conducted January 2015 until March 2015. The behavior were ingestive, movement, motionless, and sexual. The descriptive method was used in this study. The focal animal sampling was used as a technique for recording those behavior. U Mann Whitney statistical test (p< 0,05) showed there are significant differences in the frequency of motionless and sexual behavior between male with competitor and male with no competitor. However, there is no significant diffrences in ingestive and movement behavior (p< 0,05). Keywords : Eclectus parrot, behavior, competitor, Ragunan

Abstract

Bat (Chiroptera) is one of mammals that can fly and has population decreased, this caused by habitat loss, trade, and excessive arrested. This research purposed to know about species diversity of bats in Indonesia, especially in Camp Leakey, Taman Nasional Tanjung Puting (TNTP), Central Kalimantan. This research conducted on area study of Camp Leakey, TNTP, Central Kalimantan, at September untill November 2015. Method of this research are descriptive method with misneting technique. Result of this research indicated that studi area of Camp Leakey, TNTP, Central Kalimantan have a high species diversity. Homogenity index were quite high or moderate and inversely proportional to dominant index score were quite low.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memanfaatkan metode tinjauan literatur untuk menyelidiki efektivitas Model Project-Based Learning (PjBL) dalam konteks pembelajaran biologi. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada dampak PjBL terhadap prestasi akademis, keterampilan kognitif, pemikiran kritis, pemikiran kreatif, dan motivasi siswa. Hasil analisis menunjukkan dampak positif PjBL pada pencapaian belajar biologi, meningkatkan keterampilan kognitif, pemikiran kritis, dan kreatif. Ditemukan bahwa model PjBL efektif dalam mengatasi gaya belajar yang beragam, terutama yang bersifat visual, auditori, dan kinestetik. Meskipun berhasil meningkatkan pencapaian belajar, munculnya tantangan seperti batasan waktu kemungkinan dapat terjadi. Meskipun demikian, PjBL diakui sebagai pendekatan yang menjanjikan, mampu meningkatkan motivasi dan prestasi belajar siswa. PjBL mendorong kemandirian siswa, meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi, pemahaman materi, pemecahan masalah, dan manajemen informasi. Meski dihadapkan pada tantangan seperti keterbatasan waktu dan pemahaman guru yang dapat mempengaruhi efektivitasnya. PjBL juga terbukti memiliki pengaruh positif pada kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan kritis siswa. Dengan melibatkan siswa sebagai pusat pembelajaran, PjBL mendorong eksplorasi, penemuan, dan ekspresi pengetahuan, memberikan dorongan untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dalam pembelajaran biologi. Meskipun diterapkan secara efektif, tantangan seperti keterbatasan pemahaman guru dan dukungan sarana perlu diatasi untuk memaksimalkan potensi PjBL dalam meningkatkan pembelajaran biologi. Keterlibatan dan keseriusan guru dalam memahami model pembelajaran ini menjadi kunci keberhasilannya. This study utilizes a literature review method to investigate the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in the context of biology education. The research focuses on the impact of PjBL on academic achievement, cognitive skills, critical thinking, creative thinking, and student motivation. The analysis results indicate a positive impact of PjBL on biology learning outcomes, enhancing cognitive skills, critical thinking, and creativity. It is found that PjBL is effective in addressing diverse learning styles, especially visual, auditory, and kinesthetic preferences. Despite successfully improving learning outcomes, challenges such as time constraints may arise. Nevertheless, PjBL is recognized as a promising approach, capable of enhancing student motivation and academic performance. PjBL promotes student independence, improving communication skills, understanding of materials, problem-solving, and information management. Despite facing challenges such as time constraints and teacher understanding that may affect its effectiveness, PjBL has proven to have a positive influence on student’s creative and critical thinking abilities. By involving students as the focal point of learning, PjBL encourages exploration, discovery, and expression of knowledge, providing a stimulus to develop creative thinking skills in biology education. While implemented effectively, challenges such as teacher understanding and support infrastructure need to be addressed to maximize the potential of PjBL in enhancing biology education. Teacher involvement and commitment to understanding this instructional model are key to its success.

Abstract

Kesulitan dalam memahami materi genetika seringkali muncul akibat sifat abstrak dan ketersediaan media pembelajaran yang kurang memadai. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengatasi permasalahan tersebut dengan fokus pada pengembangan media pembelajaran "Kotak Kromosom" (KOKRO) untuk materi kromosom. Metode Research & Development (R&D) dengan model 3D digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Pengembangan KOKRO melibatkan tahap define, design, dan development, dengan validasi konten dan media oleh ahli Pendidikan Biologi. Kotak Kromosom adalah perangkat pengajaran berbentuk kotak dari kardus, dilapisi kertas pembungkus, dan bagian dalamnya dilapisi kertas berwarna cerah yang berisi gambar-gambar tentang kromosom. Hasil dari kedua uji tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa secara umum, media pembelajaran KOKRO layak digunakan dengan sedikit revisi kecil untuk meningkatkan efektivitasnya.

Abstract

Coral reefs are one of the protected species in the marine ecosystem which acts as a provider of shelter for other marine biota. Until now, coral reefs have received special attention because their health conditions are threatened. Coral reef literacy is one of the important efforts that we as educated students have, to play a role in efforts to protect and preserve coral reef ecosystems. Therefore, this Coral Reef Literacy Instrument was developed to measure coral reef literacy skills. The aim of this study was to develop instruments to measure coral reef literacy abilities. The method in this study is a research and development method using the ADDIE model which consists of 5 stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study were students of the Faculty of Education, State University of Jakarta. Overall, the feasibility of the instrument by two material experts and one linguist was 83.5%, this indicated that the coral reef literacy instrument was stated to be very feasible to use to measure coral reef literacy abilities.
