Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the segregation pattern of multiethnic settlements in Kampung 3-4 Ulu Laut in Palembang City. The research method used in this study is a case study by means of in-depth interviews, observations, and documents. The results showed that the settlement pattern in Kampung 3-4 Ulu Laut Palembang City formed a colonization pattern or clustered at the front of the kampung due to the presence of there is a strong kinship base among people of Palembang descent who come from the same kinship lineage, such as the Palembang native ethnic, the Palembang Chinese ethnic and the Cirebonese Palembang ethnic. Meanwhile, at the back of kampung, the settlement pattern forms a spreading pattern and is more intended for immigrants ethnic who come from areas outside the Palembang City due to socioeconomic factors. The segregation of the settlements is a reflection of each ethnic groups in a settlement area which is supported by differences in economic, social, cultural, ethnic, and racial conditions. This separation is very visible in the position of the distribution of settlements from ethnic groups that form colonies on the front and back of Kampung 3-4 Ulu Laut. The existence of segregation of settlements in Kampung 3-4 Ulu Laut can be concluded that the settlement patterns that are formed reflect the inequalities that occur within an area, especially in the dominant groups in this case are the people of Palembang descent.

Abstract

Among various issues on regional development planning in Indonesia, the vast coverage area and its regional diversity become one of main challenges. Regionalization is one of spatial techniques that can be used to facilitate regional development planning process. This study aims to analyze regionalization of Indonesia with a focus on Java Island by highlighting the main contemporary issues including poverty, COVID-19 pandemic, and gender. This paper draws the conditions of poverty, the cases of the COVID-19 pandemic and the needs of gender-based development in 119 regencies/cities on the island of Java using spatial distribution analysis. The results of the analysis show that the distribution of the percentage of the poor and the poverty line in Java forms a clustered pattern. This also happened in the case of COVID-19 where the high concentration of cases was around DKI Jakarta and DI Yogyakarta. As for the gender aspect, there is a tendency for a scattered pattern for the value of the gender development index, although there are some areas with high values (H-H quadrant) and low values (L-L quadrant). In general, the use of regional analysis may facilitate the identification of spatial phenomena, their distribution and the patterns formed, therefore it can be used for determining suitable regional policies. Keywords: Java Island, Regionalization, Poverty, COVID-19 Pandemic, Gender

Abstract

Mount Merapi National Park (MMNP) is located in the region of Mount Merapi. Since the beginning of its appointment, the existence of MMNP caused cotradiction and conflict between people around Merapi and other stakeholders. Its existence is considered as a threat to limit assets, access, and their activities in the utilization of natural resources to meet their needs of life. To protect natural sustainability of Mount Merapi and refers to the regulation of national park management, MMNP is managed using zoning system. The development of MMNP zoning has considered without prejudice or harm the welfare of society, both in the aspects of conservation, economic and socio-cultural. In fact there are still wide range of violations committed by the society and other stakeholders, which indicate that the zoning has not been complied with. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of national park management using zoning system. The method used is deductive approach with data sources obtained from primary data in the form of observations and in-depth interviews, and secondary data in the form of documents from various sources. The results of this study indicate that zoning regulations effectively regulate the activities that carried out in each zone. However, MMNP still has "homework" to resolve grass harvesting and encroachment within MMNP.

Abstract

This article analyzes the strategies of Pro-Poor Tourism (PPT), i.e. the strategies to increase the benefits for poor people from tourism development. It explained the view that tourism, on a small or large scale, has a positive contribution to increased sources of income, creation of employment opportunities, and community development. However, there are still problems in developing the potentialities of the local labor force to contribute in the tourism sector. The development of tourism in Karimunjawa over the past ten years has undergone good progress, but the poverty rate in Karimunjawa is still fairly high. The problem of poverty is a complex one and is linked to a decrease in the main sources of earnings, i.e. fisheries and agriculture. The underlying concern is the fact that the growth of tourism in Karimunjawa has fostered the growth of resorts, hotels or the service sector owned and run by big investors, vis-à-vis the scant participation of the poor. The dominant types of job that the local community does are as employees or hired workers, and they are rarely involved directly in the planning and development of tourism, thereby restricting the potential role of the poor in the tourism sector in Karimunjawa. This study recommends strategies for the empowerment of the local community to enable them to make a considerable contribution to tourism in Karimunjawa in an endeavor to alleviate poverty and enhance the quality of human resources. One strategy recommended in this article is the adoption of a pro-poor policy through vocational training in tourism for the local community of Karimunjawa. Keywords: Karimunjawa, poverty, Pro-Poor Tourism, tourism, vocational training.
