Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, especially in the elderly. Low knowledge, unhealthy lifestyles, and suboptimal stress management often lead to uncontrolled hypertension in the community. Housewives have the potential to be empowered as a socio-religious community in efforts to control hypertension. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and independence of subjects in controlling hypertension through health education and the application of complementary lavender aromatherapy therapy. The activity method uses a pretest–posttest design approach without a control group, with housewives as subjects who are members of the Surah Yasin reading group. The sample was taken by accidental sampling, with a total of 50 people. Respondents were given education about hypertension and trained to use lavender aromatherapy provided by the researcher, then their blood pressure was evaluated. The instruments used were questionnaires and sphygmomanometer aneroid. The results of the activity were analyzed descriptively, showing an increase in knowledge in the good category from 26% before the activity to 78% after the activity and a decrease in average systolic blood pressure of 9.36 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of 5.68 mmHg. This activity shows that a community-based approach through health education and lavender aromatherapy has the potential to support promotive and preventive efforts in controlling hypertension in the community. Keywords: hypertension

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

A mother's knowledge of caring for young children is influenced by information. Information can provide direct knowledge gains that contribute to behavioral change, including the use of complementary therapies such as acupressure. Mothers with young children at the primary service integration cadres “Cut Muti”,  in Bendogerit Village, Blitar City, are a strategic group for empowerment because they play a central role in daily childcare. This study uses a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. The population consisted of 40 mothers of children under five who were registered at the the primary service integration cadres “Cut Muti”, using a total sampling technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire that measured mothers' knowledge of acupressure for managing coughs and colds in toddlers. The intervention consisted of health education thru lectures and counseling supported by leaflets, delivered individually, and conducted in a single 25-minute session. The data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Statistical analysis shows a significant increase in mothers' knowledge after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). This finding indicates a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after health education about acupressure therapy. Health education about acupressure effectively improves mothers' knowledge and is expected to support independent and correct home management of coughs and colds in toddlers. Future community service initiatives are recommended to expand participant coverage and strengthen community-based empowerment programs to sustainably reduce respiratory complaints in children under five in Indonesia.

Abstract

There are several non-comorbid COVID-19 patients lead to mortality, but the risk factors that affect it have not been widely discussed in research. Treatment of COVID-19 patients focuses more on patients with comorbidities. This study aimed to check the effectiveness of Early Warning Scores (EWS) assessment to predict the mortality of non-comorbid COVID-19 patients. The method of the study was a case study research with a retrospective approach using secondary data, namely the patient's medical record status. This study took medical record data from 262 patients confirmed positive for non-comorbid COVID-19 who were hospitalized at Ngudi Waluyo Wlingi Hospital from July to September 2021. The multivariate data analysis used multiple linear regression tests to simultaneously test the relationship of the independent variables (age, gender, and Early warning score) to the dependent variable (mortality). The statistical analysis result showed the correlation between gender, age, and assessment with mortality, each of which has a p-value of 0.000, meaning that each of these variables has a relationship with mortality. If a simultaneous test (F test) is carried out, the p-value is 0.000, meaning that gender, age, and EWS simultaneously affect mortality. The coefficient of determination or R square of 0.773 means that gender, age, and EWS simultaneously influence mortality by 77.3%. Early Warning Scores (EWS) assessment influenced the mortality of non-comorbid COVID-19 patients. The highest contribution affecting mortality was the EWS assessment. The contribution of influence on sex and age is relatively the same.

Abstract

Fitness for children is related to optimal physical condition. Fitness influences mental and social development, especially children's concentration and learning abilities. Fitness must be maintained to support activities. Diet is a supporting factor for children's physical fitness. Diet is the foundation for long-term health. The research aimed to determine factors related to eating patterns that influence children's physical fitness. The research design was cross-sectional. The research population was school children aged 10-12 years totaling 96 students in 2023 using the total sampling method. The independent variables were BMI (Body Massa Index), physical activity, and rest, and the dependent variable was the child's physical fitness. The instrument used the Physical Activity Questionnaire to measure activity, eating patterns using Food Frequency, rest using The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and physical fitness, calculated using the Technical Guidelines for Health Screening and Periodic Examination of School-Age Children and Adolescents in 2018. The analysis test used linear regression (P<0.05) to determine the relationship between factors related to eating patterns and influencing children's physical fitness. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship between BMI (p 0.661), physical activity (0.783), and rest (p 0.756) on eating patterns. An eating pattern is a significant mediator for physical activity and rest but not for BMI (p 0.733) on children's physical fitness. Rest (p 0.000) and physical activity (p 0.004) influence children's physical fitness. BMI does not measure the position and location of fat, so people with the same BMI have different fitness levels.

Abstract

People with diabetes mellitus are five times more likely to develop cataracts. High blood sugar levels over a long period of time can be one of the complications of cataracts. This was a correlational study with the purpose to determine the correlation between the duration of diabetes mellitus and the occurrence of cataracts in patients with diabetes mellitus at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Medika Utama Hospital, Blitar. The population in this study was patients with diabetes mellitus who visited the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Medika Utama Hospital, Blitar. The sample in this study was patients with diabetes mellitus who visited the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Medika Utama Hospital within a period of 2 weeks, totaling 56 people. The sampling used an accidental sampling technique. The statistical test used was chi-square. The results of this study showed that the p-value was 0.449, which meant that there was no correlation between the duration of diabetes mellitus and the incidence of cataracts. Several actions that can be taken to prevent cataracts are controlling blood glucose levels by obediently taking medication and following a diet. In addition, routine eye checks are useful in preventing cataracts in people with diabetes mellitus.
