Abstract

According to literature, a child’s request is always addressed to a specific person or group of people. To our knowledge, however, studies on language use, interactions, and social dimensions in relation to request making to an interlocutor are uncommon in the Indonesian context; therefore, we sought to describe the considerations taken by children when making requests. Forty children between the ages of 6 and 10 took part in this qualitative study. We collected data using observation and field notes. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using an interactive model. The findings indicate that the majority of children's requests are directed toward interlocutors who are classified as having an extremely close relationship. In contrast, children never make direct requests to interlocutors classified as quite distant or extremely distant. The findings also indicate that requests made to interlocutors with a higher social status than children use a particular verbal form based on the nature of the request and the implied context. In contrast to reality, requests made to interlocutors with a lower social status are more likely to be made directly. It is hoped that the findings of this study will contribute to pragmatic and speech-related theories, as well as to improvements in language education based on a communicative and contextual approach that returns language to its primary function as a tool for communication and places language learning in a meaningful context.

Abstract

The Lampung language vocabulary learning module is designed to improve the learning outcomes of fifth grade students at Sekolah Dasar (SD) Negeri Gilih Karang Jati. However, in reality, student learning outcomes are still not good, especially in learning Lampung language vocabulary. The aim of this research is to determine student learning outcomes in Lampung language vocabulary subjects. The data obtained in this research was analyzed using experimental methodology with a one group pretest posttest research design. This type of research is referred to as research and development (R&D) and is associated with ADDIE theory. The Lampung language vocabulary learning module has been verified by material, media and language experts and its usefulness has also been assessed based on teacher and student responses. Media experts obtained a valid percentage score of 0.93%, language experts obtained a valid percentage score of 0.88%, and material experts obtained a valid percentage score of 0.91%. The average percentage of educators' practicality test scores was 97.12% and students' practicality scores were 98.39%. The results of this research were analyzed using t test calculations, data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between before and after treatment using the Lampung language vocabulary learning module, with the achieved value of 0.000 < 005. Based on the research results, the implementation of the Lampung language vocabulary-based learning module can be achieved in helping fifth grade students at SD Negeri Gilih Karang Jati achieve better learning outcomes.

Abstract

Numerous meta-analysis studies have been undertaken on the topic of culturally embedded learning. Insufficient study has been undertaken on culturally integrated learning as a means to enhance reading abilities. The objective of this study is to assess and evaluate the impact of learning enriched by local culture on reading proficiency. This research was conducted using meta-analysis. The document search conducted using Google Scholar yielded 14 document papers published between 2019 and 2023. The research design included a contrast group with random effects model, incorporating a corrected effect size. The investigation employed Jeffreys’s Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) software to compute means aggregate errors, generate forest plots, and assess publication bias. The research reported a statistically significant difference (SE=2.091) between the groups that used local knowledge and standard methods in the learning process. The findings also indicated that incorporating local culture has a significant and favorable impact (with a p value of less than 0.05, namely 0.001) on reading proficiency. This demonstrates that incorporating local culture into the learning process is successful in enhancing students' reading proficiency. Therefore, this study recommends that teachers incorporate local culture as a subject in their teaching to enhance students' reading proficiency.

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) on the topic of words and syllables to improve the learning outcomes of third-grade students in Indonesian language learning. Novelty: The developed LKPD integrates the PBL approach into Indonesian language lessons, offering an innovative learning medium tailored for elementary school students. Methods: The research used a Research and Development (R&D) design with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Subjects included 20 experimental and 20 control class students each from SDIT Harapan Bangsa, SDIT Rasyid Sedayu, and SD Negeri 1 Merak Batin. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, tests, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. Results: Expert validation showed high feasibility, with scores of 89.3 (material expert), 98 (media expert), and 76 (language expert), averaging 87.76 (very valid). Practicality tests yielded an average of 92 from teachers and 94 from students (both very practical). The N-Gain test indicated moderate effectiveness: 0.68 (SDIT Harapan Bangsa), 0.67 (SDIT Rasyid Sedayu), and 0.65 (SD Negeri 1 Merak Batin). The independent t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a significant difference between control and experimental classes. Conclusions: The PBL-based LKPD on words and syllables is highly valid, very practical, and moderately effective, making it a promising innovative medium to enhance elementary students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research examines the integration of technology in teaching materials to improve students' learning skills through the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) approach. Technology is used as a medium for collaboration, reflection and data collection that supports learning experiences that are interactive, engaging and relevant to students' real lives. The application of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework helps teachers design effective and engaging learning experiences. The results show that the use of digital platforms such as Google Classroom, Edmodo and Microsoft Teams can improve students' motivation, engagement and 21st century skills, including collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. In addition, the integration of technology allows students to learn flexibly and actively participate in real projects, which ultimately supports the optimal success of implementing PPA
