Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify and analyze external genetic diversity and the introgression rate of bangkok chickens in the city. This research was carried out from November to December 2022 in Kendari City. The materials used in this study were 400 bangkok chickens, consisting of 200 males and 200 tails with an age range of 6 months to 2 years. The variables observed in this study were qualitative traits which included coat color, comb shape and shank color, and introgression rate. The results of the study of the highest controlling gene frequency for external characteristics in Bangkok chickens in Kendari City were colored feather color (ii) (100%), wild feather pattern (e+_) (33,50%), golden glitter (ss) (66,50%) plain coat pattern (bb) (72,75%), white shank color (idid) (55%) and pea comb shape (P_) (99,25%). The value of influence (introgression) from Europeans and Americans on Bangkok chicken in this study was very high, namely 58,65% with an authenticity level of 49,25%. Based on the average heterozygosity value, Bangkok chicken is relatively high with an average expected heterozygosity value of 36,95% per individual.

Abstract

The preference of quail egg’s consumer could be determined by measuring the consumer choice.  This preference could illustrate the attribute of quail egg that could be produced by producer and accepted by consumer.  The aims of this study were to analyze the attitude and behavior of the customer in case of buying quail egg, analyze the level of self interest and satisfaction of the customer to the quail egg attribute, and analyze the customer preference on a variety of the quail egg attributes. Data collected in Kendari, South East Sulawesi and were analyzed using Fishbein Multiattribute Attitude analysis, IPA analysis (Importance Performance Analysis), and Conjoint Analysis.  The result of Fishbein Multiattribute Attitude Analysis indicated that the 61,91% consumers were fond of quail egg. In average, the acceptabiity of the customer to the quail egg was ‘quite good’ and the behavior of the customer was consistent but they to re-buy the quail egg. While the result of IPA analysis (Importance Performance Analysis) showed that the most important and the most satisfine attribute of quail egg for customer was colourful attribute. The result of Conjoint Analysis revealed that the preference of the quail egg customer in Kendari City was the quail egg with low price, seasonal availability, less than 10 gram in weight, colourful and unpacking. Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the best combination of cryoprotectant (Ethylene glycol, EG), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and propanediol (PrOH) and carrier system (hemistraw and cryotop) in improving ewe oocytes viability during cryopreservation. Oocytes with multi layers of compact cumulus cells were colleted from abbatoir and matured in TCM 199 medium supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum for 24-26 h at 38.5° C under 5% CO2 in the air. Matured oocyte was divided into six parts and vitrified in three different vitrification solutions; (i) 17% EG+17% DMSO with hemistraw as carrier system, (ii) 34% EG with hemistraw as carrier system, (iii) 17% EG+17% PrOH in hemistraw (iv), 17% EG+17% DMSO with cryotop as carrier system (v), 34% EG with cryotop as carrier system (vi), and 17% EG+17% PrOH in cryotop. Oocytes were cryopreserved for one week before revived and evaluated for viability. The result showed that oocytes vitrified in media containing EG and DMSO in cryotop had the highest viability (88.16%) compared to media containing EG only or EG and PrOH (70.95% and 68.76%, respectively) (P0.05). Moreover, oocytes viability that vitrified using cryotop and hemistraw as carrier system were not significantly different. The present results indicated that vitrification using combination of EG and DMSO as permeable cryoprotectant and cryotop as carrier system was the best system to maintain oocyte viability after vitrification-warming.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the carrying capacity of Bali cattle development in the Bali cattle breeding centre in the South Konawe Regency. The location determination was determined by purposive sampling with the consideration that this area is the centre of Bali cattle breeding in Indonesia. The variables that will be seen are the characteristics of the respondents and the carrying capacity of Bali cattle development, the carrying capacity of Bali cattle development based on Location Quotient (LQ) analysis. The results of this study indicate that natural resources are supporting the development of the Bali cattle business in the breeding centre area which includes a total population of 18,842 heads (27%) of the total population, has the potential as a basis for livestock development with an LQ value of 1.1.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and analyze the characteristics of the quality of semen, and hatching of Arab chicken eggs and the growth of crosses from chicks. This research was conducted at the Permata Farmer Group business, Wua-wua Village, Wua-wua District Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi for three months. This study uses a Completely Randomized Design which is three treatments and six replications. The parameters measured were semen quality, egg weight, egg index, fertility, DOC weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion. The data analysis used is Analysis of Variance. The results of this study indicate that the consequences of crossing three males did not have a significant effect (P 0.05) on the measured parameters. It can be seen in the research process which gives results that are not much different from the results of the crossing of three different males using the Arabic parent in the initial phase of production.

Abstract

Kampong chickens have genetic characteristics that are not uniform, one of which is the color of the shank. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of Kampong chicken eggs based on the color of the parent shank. The number of eggs observed was 150, consisting of 50 eggs from black shank hens, 50 from white shank hens, and 50 from yellow shank hens. The variables observed in this study were egg color, egg texture, egg weight, and egg index. Egg color and texture were analyzed descriptively based on percentage values. In contrast, egg weight and index were analyzed using analysis of variance in a completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 10 replications. The results of this study indicate that the color of Kampong chicken egg shells in black, white, and yellow shank chickens shows a variety of egg colors. The texture of the Kampong chicken eggshell, based on the color of the shank on the exterior, is quite high quality. The egg weight of black shank-colored Kampong chickens was not significantly different (P>0.05) from that of white and shank-colored chickens. The index of native chicken eggs with yellow shank (P3) was significantly higher (P

Abstract

Andrographis paniculate (AP) is one of the traditional herbs of Indonesia that contains andrographolide and has immunomodulator, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. Leucocyte is part of the specific immune system that protects the organism from infection by pathogens, and its response can be affected by immunomodulators such as andrographolide. This study used 60 mice divided into 5 treatment groups of different AP extract doses (control negative, control positive, KS1: 200 mg/kg BW, KS2: 300 mg/kg BW, KS3: 400 mg/kg BW) and was done by completely randomized design. AP extract was given to treatment groups for 21 days. On day 22, mice were orally challenged by Salmonella typhi infection, and blood samples were collected on day 24. Results of this study showed a decreasing leucocyte count in mice treated with AP extract and challenged with S. typhi compared to control positive (untreated and infected group). The results also showed a shift in differential leucocyte percentage in treated groups closer to the normal number in the control negative (untreated and uninfected) group. AP extract at 400 mg/kg BW can be used as an immunomodulator to improve mice's immune response to Salmonella typhi infection.
