Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the relationship between age with calving inteval (CI), days open (DO), and service per conception (S/C) in Friesian Holstein dairy cattle (FH). The research was started on Desember 2017 to January 2018 in PT. Greenfields Indonesia partnerships, KecamatanWagir Kabupaten Malang. The materials of the search used were 100 heads of dairy cattle which had at least two times of parturition. The method used in this research was a survey and data collection. The data were obtained from the records of reproduction. Data analysis was multiple linear regression using SPSS software 21.0 version. The results showed that the values of CI (434,9±58,9 days, 449,4±66,2 days, and 431,8±59,2 days), DO (218,9±58,7 days, 218,9±58,7 days, dan 217,6±54,1 days), dan S/C (3,2±1,8 times, 4,3±1,9 times, 2,6±1,1 times) for the ages of 4, 5, 6. The relationship between age with CI and DO were not significant (P>0,05), but the relationship between age with S/C was significant (P<0,05). The value of S/C increased on dairy cattle at age of 4 to 5 years and started to decreased at the age of 6 years.

Abstract

Second-degree burns are complex traumatic conditions requiring optimal tissue healing interventions. This experimental study investigated the impact of Gnetum gnemon L. leaf extract cream on collagen density in burn wounds. The research was conducted using 20 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus), divided into five groups: negative control, positive control (silver sulfadiazine), and three treatment groups with varying leaf extract concentrations (2.5%, 5%, and 10%). Burn induction was performed on the right gluteal area using a thermostat at 85°C for 5 seconds. Collagen density was evaluated through histopathological analysis using ImageJ with density scores ranging from 0 to 4. Research results demonstrated significant collagen density increases in treatment groups, with the 10% concentration displaying the highest density (score +4). Significant differences between groups were confirmed by statistical analysis (p<0.05). Findings indicate the potential of Gnetum gnemon L. extract as an alternative therapy for improving burn wound healing through collagen density optimization.

Abstract

Burn wound is an injury that causes tissue damage, typically due to contact with a heat source. Fibroblasts have an important role in wound healing, synthesizing collagen as the main constituent of the extracellular matrix which is important in wound integrity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cream of melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.)  leaf extract on the number of fibroblast cells in deep partial thickness burn in white rats (Rattus novegicus). Twenty male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into five treatment groups, with four replications in each group, and were induced with in deep partial thickness burn. The negative control group (K-) was treated with cream base, the positive control group (K+) was treated with Silver Sulfadiazine, while P1, P2, and P3 group was treated with respectively 2.5, 5 and 10% melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) leaf extract cream. Therapy was given twice a day for 14 days. Oneway ANOVA showed significant differences between each treatment group (p <0.05) and continued with the Duncan test. The average number of fibroblasts in each treatment group showed that the K- were significantly different from the K+, P2, P3 groups but not P1. The lowest mean number of fibroblast cells was found in the K- group. The conclusion from the research that has been carried out was that melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L) leaf extract cream decrease the number of fibroblast cells in second-degree burns wounds in white rats (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of basil (Ocimum basilicum) leaf extract in a Tris-egg yolk extender on the motility, and plasma membrane integrity of Sapudi ram spermatozoa at room temperature. Fresh semen samples were collected from Sapudi ram using an artificial vagina. A completely randomized design was used, consisting of four treatment groups with five replicates each. Data were analyzed using SPPS with factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s test. The control group (T0) received Tris-egg yolk extender without basil leaf extract. Treatment groups T1, T2, and T3 received 1%, 2%, and 3% basil leaf extract, respectively, in the extender. Results showed that sperm motility and plasma membrane integrity (Table 4) tended to decrease with increased storage time. Among the treatment groups, the addition of 1% basil leaf extract in the Tris-egg yolk extender (T1) resulted in significantly higher (p <0.05) both sperm motility and plasma membrane integrity compared to the control (T0). However, higher concentrations of basil leaf extract (T2 and T3) did not result in significant differences (p >0.05) in sperm motility after three hours of storage compared to the 1% treatment (T1). In conclusion, the addition of 1% basil leaf extract to a Tris-egg yolk extender was effective in maintaining sperm motility and plasma membrane integrity of Sapudi ram spermatozoa stored at room temperature for up to three hours.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of red ginger extract (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) on the number of spermatogenic cells and Leydig cells in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to monosodium glutamate (MSG). This study used 25 male white rats divided into five treatment groups. The K− group received 1% CMC-Na, the K+ group received MSG at a dose of 5 g/kg body weight (BW), and the P1 to P3 groups received MSG at 5 g/kg BW along with red ginger extract at doses of 50 mg/kg BW, 100 mg/kg BW, and 200 mg/kg BW, respectively, for 42 days. The rats’ testes were collected, processed into histopathological preparations, and observed under a microscope at 400× magnification. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test. The results showed significant differences (p < 0.05) in the number of spermatogenic cells and Leydig cells among the K−, K+, P1, and P2 groups, but no significant differences (p > 0.05) were observed between the K− group (57.60ᵈ ± 1.490 and 14.92ᵈ ± 1.487) and the P3 group (57.20ᵈ ± 1.208 and 14.84ᵈ ± 1.459). The optimal dose of red ginger extract was 200 mg/kg BW (P3). In conclusion, administration of red ginger extract can maintain the number of spermatogenic cells and Leydig cells in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to MSG.
