Abstract

This study presents the design, fabrication, and performance evaluation of a sine S-bend embedded square-core optical waveguide for temperature sensing applications. The waveguide was fabricated using a straightforward and cost-effective CNC milling technique, with PMMA as the cladding and unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) as the core material. Three different bend heights (0.5 cm, 0.6 cm, and 0.7 cm) were investigated to assess their effects on sensor sensitivity, response time, accuracy, and hysteresis. Results showed that increasing the bend height enhanced the sensor sensitivity, with the highest sensitivity of 0.0283 dB/°C achieved at a bend height of 0.7 cm. The response time was consistently maintained at approximately 40 seconds across all samples. The sensor exhibited excellent accuracy, reaching up to 99.31% at a bend height of 0.5 cm. The maximum hysteresis observed was 0.202 % at a bend height of 0.7 cm, indicating stable performance during thermal cycling. These results confirm that the integration of a sine S-bend structure, smooth core surface, and precise waveguide dimensions can significantly improve sensor performance while maintaining a simple and scalable fabrication process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of auditor independence and ethics on audit quality, with audit fees as a moderating variable, in Public Accounting Firms (KAP) located in South Jakarta. The research is motivated by the importance of maintaining audit quality as a form of accountability and public trust in the accounting profession. Auditor independence is often considered a key factor in ensuring the objectivity of audit results, while auditor ethics serve as a moral foundation for delivering high-quality audits. However, differing opinions exist regarding the extent to which these two factors truly impact audit quality, especially considering the role of audit fees, which often become a sensitive issue in the auditor-client relationship. This study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis with the SmartPLS software. The population includes all auditors working in Public Accounting Firms in South Jakarta, with a saturated sampling technique applied so that all members of the population are included in the sample. The results show that auditor independence has a significant positive effect on audit quality, meaning that higher levels of independence lead to better audit quality. On the other hand, auditor ethics do not significantly affect audit quality, indicating that ethical considerations are not always explicitly reflected in audit outcomes. Additionally, audit fees are found to moderate the relationship between independence and audit quality but do not moderate the relationship between auditor ethics and audit quality.

Abstract

The use of synthetic feed additives in Peking ducks has adverse effects on their growth and productivity. Spirulina sp., a blue-green algae, has the potential to be used as a safe feed additive that can enhance the growth and productivity of ducks. This study aims to analyze the effects of Spirulina (Spirulina sp.) powder as a feed additive on the histomorphometry of the duodenum in Peking ducks (Anas platyrhynchos), focusing on the duodenal lumen diameter, villus height, villus width, mucosal tunic thickness, submucosal tunic thickness, and muscular tunic thickness. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 35 ducks divided into 5 treatments and 5 repetitions. The treatments included a control group and the addition of spirulina powder in feed at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. The data were analyzed by ANOVA with a significance level of 5%, followed by Duncan's test. The results of data analysis showed that spirulina powder had a significant effect (P<0.05) on villus height and duodenal mucosa tunica thickness. The conclusion of this study is that spirulina powder has the potential to be used as a feed additive to improve digestive performance in male Peking ducks, as evidenced by the increase in villus height and thick tunica mucosa in the small intestine. The novelty of this study lies in the utilization of spirulina powder as a feed additive to increase the size of the duodenal tissue structure in Peking ducks. The results of this study are expected to be a new reference on the potential of spirulina as a feed additive to improve poultry feed quality and digestive performance, especially in peking ducks.

Abstract

This study presents an environmentally friendly and scalable method for synthesizing high-quality few-layer graphene (FLG) through a combination of turbulence-assisted shear exfoliation (TASE) and high shear exfoliation (HSE) techniques. By systematically varying the high-shear mixer (HSM) speed (3000–5000 rpm) and processing time (1–3 hours), we precisely controlled key material attributes, including the number of graphene layers, crystallinity, lateral size, and defect density. Optimal conditions (5000 rpm, 3 hours) resulted in FLG with ~2–3 layers, confirmed by a symmetric 2D peak with a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of ~35 cm⁻¹ and a high I2D/IG ratio (~0.6), indicating excellent structural integrity. The ID/IG ratio (~0.1) further verified the presence of minimal defects, predominantly edge vacancies rather than oxidative disruptions. Raman imaging revealed a dominance of zigzag edge chirality, while TEM and PSA analyses demonstrated control over lateral size (~396.5 nm) and particle uniformity. The application of household dishwashing liquid as a green surfactant innovatively enabled selective and pure exfoliation. This work highlights how precise modulation of shear parameters can directly influence graphene quality, paving the way for sustainable large-scale production of low-defect FLG.

Abstract

Accurate rainfall prediction plays a vital role in reducing disaster risks and supporting public preparedness, particularly in Jakarta where dense population and frequent floods cause serious economic and social impacts. In this study, weather data from the Kemayoran Meteorological Station covering 2004–2023 were analyzed to build rainfall prediction models using machine learning. Three classification algorithms were compared: Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, and Random Forest, selected to represent linear, non-linear, and ensemble approaches. Feature selection was applied using Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) to identify the most relevant predictors. The models were evaluated using 5-fold cross-validation with metrics including Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1 Score, ROC AUC, and Cohen’s Kappa. The results indicate that Random Forest achieved the best overall performance with Accuracy of 0.7622, Precision around 0.70, Recall up to 0.63, F1 Score about 0.65, ROC AUC ranging from 0.8044 to 0.8171, and Cohen’s Kappa near 0.48. Logistic Regression also performed competitively with Accuracy of 0.7648, ROC AUC of 0.829, and Kappa of 0.49, while Decision Tree showed lower results with Accuracy of 0.6890 and ROC AUC of 0.6636. The RFE process successfully reduced 18 meteorological attributes to 5 influential features, mainly temperature and relative humidity, which were dominant in distinguishing rainfall events. These findings demonstrate that both Random Forest and Logistic Regression outperform Decision Tree, and Random Forest with RFE can be recommended as the most robust model for rainfall prediction in Jakarta.

Abstract

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in male worldwide. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) offers cancer treatment with minimum side effects. BNCT is radiation therapy that uses the 10B isotope and neutron beams which can selectively destroy tumor cells. The resulting radiation dose cannot be measured directly, so a computational method is needed to calculate the dose. The aim of this research is to determine the effective boron concentration, determine the optimal direction of irradiation, and determine the duration of irradiation time at an effective boron concentration for BNCT of prostate cancer. The computational method used is the Monte Carlo method with PHITS Version 3.32 software. The phantom used is an adult male ORNL phantom. The type of prostate cancer modeled is adenocarcinoma with an intermediate risk group. The neutron source is a 30 MeV cyclotron. Variations in 10B concentrations used were 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 µg/g boron/cancer tissue. The variations in direction used are: anterior-posterior, lateral-anterior oblique, and left-lateral. This study yield that the effective boron concentration used for BNCT in prostate cancer is 150 µg/g boron/cancer tissue. The most optimal radiation direction for BNCT of prostate cancer is the anterior-posterior direction. The duration of irradiation time required for a boron concentration of 150 µg/g boron/cancer tissue is 1 hour 16 minutes 10 seconds.
