Abstract

User privacy while browsing the internet has become a major concern, especially with the presence of the private mode feature in browsers, which is claimed to protect personal data. This study analyzes the extent to which private mode in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers can safeguard personal data using the standard approach from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Four simulation scenarios were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of private mode in preventing user information from being stored. The research findings indicate that although private mode successfully prevents the storage of browsing history and user data on the hard disk, sensitive information such as accounts and passwords can still be accessed in memory (RAM) under certain conditions. These findings suggest that private mode is not entirely secure in protecting user privacy, particularly against attacks that exploit temporary data in RAM. The implications of this study highlight the need for further development in private mode security, both by browser developers and users who seek to enhance their personal data protection. This study also recommends additional strategies to be implemented more effectively in order to reduce the risk of data leakage when using private mode.

Abstract

When an induction motor starts up, it draws a large current, which can damage it and cause a voltage dip effect that interferes with other electrical equipment. The machine, however, has numerous applications, particularly in the industrial sector, due to its low cost, robustness, and dependability. Induction motor performance must be improved to reduce starting current surges and protect against overcurrent. Thyristors are used in the developed system to control the voltage level. The microcontroller's trigger pulse causes a ramp-up in supply voltage, resulting in a soft-starting effect in a 1-phase induction motor. The system detects overcurrent using the popular current sensor module. This research results in a high-performing soft starter and overcurrent detector. When compared to supplying the motor directly online, the soft-starter unit can reduce the starting current by 55%. Meanwhile, the embedded overcurrent detector performs admirably, accurately detecting motor overcurrent and cutting off the power supply when the motor reaches overcurrent.

Abstract

This article proposes a novel single-stage double-sided LCC (DS-LCC) constant power (CP) wireless battery charger. The proposed CP charger uses a closedloop control in the secondary side with the active rectifier to make the DS-LCC charger achieve CP charging and optimal efficiency. Compared to previous work, the proposed CP wireless power transfer system does not involve any switch-controlled capacitor (SCC), does not require wireless communication, and can achieve optimal efficiency throughout the charging process. The proposed charger reduces cost and system complexity while improving efficiency. The proposed wireless charger is validated by simulation, and the efficiency remains between 94.44% and 94.52%, surpassing the previous work.

Abstract

Unbalances and non-linearities in islanded wind energy systems (WES) cause electromagnetic torque fluctuations, leading to mechanical stress and power oscillations. This study analyses the dynamic performance of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based variable speed WES connected to a standalone DC microgrid (DCM) during multimode operations. The proposed system addresses power balance during rare scenarios such as machine stall, closed rotor, and closed stator conditions. Notably, only one stator parameter regulates voltage and frequency, simplifying control and reducing cost. Unlike existing literature, this work quantifies and demonstrates the oscillations in torque, active, and reactive power. Dynamic performance is validated using a software-in-loop (SIL) approach with the Opal RT OP4510 real-time simulator. Results confirm that the system maintains voltage stability and supports uninterrupted power delivery across all operational modes. Additionally, power quality indices such as THD comply with IEEE 519 standards, reporting system reliability and flexibility in standalone wind energy applications.

Abstract

Today, phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) applies to electric drives. But due to its structure and control scheme, PMSM suffers from ripple performance when a control scheme like direct torque control (DTC) is used. This work uses a simple scheme to generate switching signals and determine duty ratios. The duty ratio is obtained from the Volt-second balance. Switching signal generation is performed in the DTC scheme by incorporating the effects of duty ratio, torque error, flux error, and sector number. Dwelling time is obtained in volt-seconds using the reference voltage magnitude and sector number. But voltage state selection is done using the DTC lookup table. Since the DTC lookup table is used for voltage state selection only one active and one null voltage is used. Both active and null voltage periods are divided into two parts and each voltage vector is applied twice in one total switching period. The proposed scheme is tested in MATLAB 2021b. Simulation results indicate that the method is effective in terms of dynamics and harmonics. The scheme torque ripple is 12.5%. Likewise, the flux ripple and harmonic are 0.69% and 0.79%, respectively. Additionally, the scheme is effective for both four quadrants and wide-speed operation. Verification of the proposed scheme is done with OPAL-RT (OP4500). The scheme appears to be effective.

Abstract

Rice, the staple food for the majority of Indonesia's population, faces significant production threats from leaf diseases, which can decrease yields and jeopardize national food security. Traditional manual identification of these diseases is a major challenge for farmers, as it is often subjective, prone to misdiagnosis leading to incorrect treatments, time-consuming, demands specialized expertise, and is difficult to implement widely for effective real-time early prevention, allowing diseases to spread and significantly impact crop yields. This research addresses these challenges by developing an automated and easily accessible rice leaf disease diagnosis system. The system is manifested as a mobile application that integrates a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, specifically utilizing the EfficientNetB0 architecture, for the classification of rice leaf images and leverages key Firebase services such as its Realtime Database for data synchronization and Cloud Storage for image management to ensure a scalable and responsive backend. The methodology involved several key stages. Firstly, the CNN model was developed by employing a transfer learning approach on the pre-trained EfficientNetB0 architecture. Secondly, the model underwent comprehensive testing using a dataset of 1,000 new rice leaf images, which were independently validated by agricultural experts. The results demonstrated that the developed CNN model achieved a global accuracy of 85.9%, with an average precision of 86.1% and recall of 85.9% (macro-average) in the expert validation testing phase with the 1,000 new images. However, the study also identified variations in the model's performance across different disease classes, highlighting areas that require further optimization to enhance detection effectiveness for specific types of rice leaf diseases. The primary benefit of this research is the provision of a practical rice leaf disease diagnosis tool that is readily accessible to farmers via a mobile application, empowering them with timely and accurate information for effective crop management. This can lead to reduced crop losses, improved yield quality, and contribute significantly to national food security. Furthermore, this research contributes to the field of applied machine learning and mobile computing in resource-constrained agricultural environments, offering valuable insights for the development of impactful informatics solutions.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an identification model for Islamic religious sounds, specifically Takbir and Sholawat pronunciations, using audio signal processing and machine learning techniques. With the increasing need for intelligent systems capable of recognizing speech patterns in religious contexts, the implementation of reliable audio classification methods becomes essential. This research utilizes Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) to extract relevant spectral features from audio samples, representing the unique characteristics of Takbir and Sholawat utterances. The dataset consists of 300 audio recordings, evenly distributed between the two classes. Each audio file is preprocessed and converted into a fixed-length MFCC feature vector, which is then labeled accordingly. The feature vectors are split into training and testing sets using an 70:30 ratio. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier is trained using the training data to recognize the distinction between Takbir and Sholawat patterns based on their acoustic signatures. Performance evaluation is carried out using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The dataset used consists of 300 audio recordings with a division of 200 takbir recordings and 100 sholawat recordings. The MFCC feature extraction process uses 13 coefficients with optimized parameters to capture discriminative spectral characteristics. As a baseline, a Support Vector Machine (SVM) implementation with Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel was performed for performance comparison.
