Abstract

The current dense population of DKI Jakarta must be balanced with the provision of adequate transportation facilities and infrastructure. The current presence of pedestrians is usually concentrated in public facilities such as terminals, shopping centers, educational centers, and other public facilities. The existence of these pedestrians requires facilities for pedestrians, including road crossing facilities such as the People's Crossing Bridge (JPO), where the JPO is installed if it is required that there is no intersection between the flow of pedestrians and the flow of traffic. So that pedestrians want to use the JPO, it must be guaranteed safety and walking distance so that it does not get too far away. For this reason, this study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the People's Crossing Bridge in the Youth Bracelet of the North Jakarta Administration. To determine the effectiveness of the pedestrian bridge at the Youth Center of North Jakarta City, the researchers observed the number of pedestrians for 2 days, namely during peak hours such as in the morning at 06.00 - 08.00 and in the afternoon at 16.00 - 18.00. From the results of the research for 2 days in the field, it was found that almost 58% of people did not use JPO facilities, and only 42% of people used JPO facilities. Thus, it can be concluded that JPO at the Youth Center of North Jakarta City Administration is classified as a fairly effective JPO.

Abstract

Cable-stayed bridges with box girders are essential innovations in civil engineering, especially for long-span structures. These bridges, reinforced with prestressed cables and box girders, are designed to handle significant loads but remain vulnerable to aerodynamic forces, particularly wind. The vulnerability is measured using the Pb parameter, as defined by the Ministry of Public Works (2015), which helps determine the windbreak structures needed for stability. This study analyzes the aerodynamic stability of bridge decks with widths of 8 m, 13 m, and 19 m on a 420 m bridge, featuring a 220 m main span and two 100 m side spans. The results reveal that the larger the deck width-to-span ratio, the higher the structure's natural frequency, which improves stability. The natural frequency values were recorded at 0.3 Hz for a 7 m deck (3.2%), 0.43 Hz for a 12 m deck (5.48%), and 0.53 Hz for an 18 m deck (8.2%). The most stable span ratio was found with the 18 m deck, with a Pb value of 0.04, showing minimal wind load effects. Moreover, a larger deck width enhances aerodynamic stability and extends the bridge’s service life by reducing damage risk from wind loads.

Abstract

Purpose: Gajah Mada Road, Batam Taman Kota area is a primary collector road 1 that has a U-Turn and dense current if passed by motorists on weekdays in the afternoon. This study aims to analyze road performance due to the closure and opening of U-Turn access. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used systematic observation is carried out on Mondays and Fridays (weekdays when the U-Turn is closed and opens) at 17.15 - 18.00 WIB in MKJI 1997. Findings: The volume of vehicles and the average speed of vehicles passing when the U-Turn is closed is higher compared to the U-Turn is opened. Meanwhile, the level of road service (LoS) is classified as good because of the stable current and normal volume even though the vehicle speed is limited and affected by traffic. Research limitations/implications: The U-Turn closure policy is believed to be a solution to reducing vehicle congestion. Practical implications: Vehicle buildup factors due to U-Turn access are the main factors hampering road performance. Originality/value: This paper is an original work. Paper type: Research papers.

Abstract

Abstract

Fire is the out-of-control burning method of flammable substances, which includes wood, paper, plastic, fuel, or different substances, which produce heat, mild smoke, and toxic gases. Fires can occur, including woodland fires caused by lightning or because of human activities, along with building fires due to electric short circuits or errors in the use of fire. In building design, it is miles vital to apprehend the elements that cause fires and the fireplace's resistance to materials. Metal is a form of metallic made from a primary mixture of iron (Fe) and carbon (C), with the amount of carbon typically being much less than 2 per cent of its general weight. Steel is a very common fabric used in a spread of applications due to its aggregate of robust, long-lasting, and malleable properties.

Abstract

Scour on bridge piers is a major problem in hydraulic engineering, reducing structural stability and accelerating foundation failure. This phenomenon occurs due to the interaction between airflow and bridge structural elements, resulting in the formation of scour holes that potentially reduce the bearing capacity of the soil around the piers. In areas with strong currents, seasonal changes in discharge, and unstable riverbed conditions, the risk of scour is even higher. The impact of scour damage not only reduces the operational lifespan of bridges but also leads to high rehabilitation costs and increases the potential for structural failure, which can endanger user safety. This study aims to analyze various scour mitigation methods that can be applied to bridge piers, including the use of protective materials such as riprap, gabions, and geotextiles; a geotechnical engineering approach that includes soil stabilization and riverbed contour modification; and the development of pier structural designs that are more adaptive to variations in flow patterns. The study was conducted through an in-depth literature review of previous research, an analysis of the effectiveness of each method under various hydrodynamic conditions, and an evaluation of the cost. The results of this study are expected to produce comprehensive recommendations regarding the most effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly mitigation strategies to reduce the rate of scour. Furthermore, this study provides direction in planning bridge designs that are more resilient to changes in flow and sedimentation, thereby extending the service life of the structure, reducing long-term maintenance costs, and improving user safety.
