Abstract

The education system in Pakistan faces challenges in effectively teaching English as a second language, prompting students to seek external support through coaching classes. This studyexplores the impact and implications of coaching classes on English language learning, examining their influence on academic performance and their emergence as a parallel education system. A mixed-method approach was adopted, utilizing surveys of 300 participants, in-depth interviews with 30 students, teachers, and parents, and classroom observations conducted in 10 schools and coaching centers. Quantitative analysis revealed that 75% of students attended coaching classes, with significant academic improvements in English performance noted for coached students compared to non-coached students (p < 0.05). Qualitative findings highlighted both the benefits and challenges: while coaching classes offer personalized attention and enhance exam preparation, they also impose a financial burden on families and reflect inadequacies in formal education. The study concludes that while coaching significantly enhances students’ English skills, it underscores the need for improvements within schools to provide more comprehensive language education. Addressing gaps in formal education could reduce over-reliance on coaching classes, ensuring more equitable access to language learning opportunities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), teacher performance, and madrasah principal leadership. This study used a descriptive correlational design with a quantitative approach involving 100 teachers as respondents. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire consisting of 17 valid items to measure the implementation of SPMI, teacher performance, and madrasah principal leadership. The research instrument has a very high level of reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.988. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rho correlation. The results showed that the implementation of SPMI was in the very good category (M = 4.35), followed by teacher performance (M = 4.56) and madrasah principal leadership (M = 4.65). The implementation of SPMI has a positive and significant relationship with teacher performance (r = 0.624; p < 0.001) and madrasah principal leadership (r = 0.530; p < 0.001). This study demonstrates that effective implementation of the PPEPP cycle can strengthen a culture of quality, enhance teacher professionalism, and support effective educational leadership. These findings provide an empirical contribution to the development of educational quality management through the integration of quality assurance practices, teacher performance, and madrasah leadership.

Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive comparative legal analysis of halal regulatory regimes within the broader context of ethical consumerism and global trade liberalization. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study examines diverse national and regional regulatory models—including Malaysia’s centralized system, Indonesia’s hybrid framework, and decentralized certification practices in GCC and Western jurisdictions. The findings indicate that divergent legal philosophies, inconsistent certification processes, and fragmented enforcement mechanisms create significant barriers to mutual recognition and international market integration. Ethical consumerism intensifies demands for transparency, authenticity, and integrity, yet weak oversight in several regions perpetuates fraud, mislabeling, and supply chain vulnerabilities. Trade liberalization further complicates the landscape, as variations in halal standards often function as technical barriers to trade, disproportionately affecting SMEs. The study highlights the growing relevance of blockchain, AI, and digital traceability as potential solutions to enhance integrity, harmonize standards, and improve global halal governance. Ultimately, the analysis underscores that achieving balance between ethical consumer protection and liberalized trade requires collaborative regulatory reforms, robust oversight, and technologically supported verification systems capable of fostering trust and facilitating global market access.

Abstract

This paper offers a comparative analysis of character education through the lens of Islamic and secular humanistic paradigms. Recognizing the increasing cultural and religious diversity in contemporary educational settings, the study emphasizes the importance of an integrative approach that respects both spiritual and rational ethical frameworks. Islamic character education centers on virtues derived from divine guidance, fostering a moral compass anchored in faith, while secular humanistic education promotes critical thinking, autonomy, and universal ethical principles grounded in reason and empathy. By synthesizing these approaches, educators can cultivate learners’ moral resilience, empathy, and ethical commitment within pluralistic societies. The paper further highlights the benefits of intercultural dialogue, pedagogical innovation, and cultural competence for teachers, parents, and communities in supporting holistic moral development. Ultimately, the integration of these models enriches character education, preparing students to become ethically responsible and socially engaged citizens in globalized contexts

Abstract

This community-based program aims to strengthen the economic resilience of marginalized groups in Pakistan through a social entrepreneurship model that promotes inclusion, innovation, and long-term sustainable growth. The initiative responds to persistent socio-economic inequalities that limit opportunities for low-income populations, particularly women, youth, and rural communities. By integrating entrepreneurial training, financial literacy education, and community-based business incubation, the program equips participants with the skills needed to initiate and sustain micro-enterprises. The model emphasizes the use of local resources, socially responsible business practices, and community-led decision-making to ensure contextual relevance. Data collected through baseline assessments, participatory workshops, and post-program evaluations show significant improvement in participants’ entrepreneurial competencies, confidence, and engagement in local economic activities. Government officials, NGOs, and private-sector partners reported increased trust and willingness to collaborate with trained communities. Feedback from participants highlights enhanced motivation, improved financial knowledge, and stronger social networks. Overall, the program demonstrates that social entrepreneurship can be a powerful mechanism for inclusive economic development when combined with capacity building, community mobilization, and strategic partnerships. Findings offer insights for policymakers and academic researchers seeking scalable models to address marginalization and promote sustainable growth in Pakistan’s diverse socio-economic landscape.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital payment systems has transformed financial transactions among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. One of the most significant innovations is Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), which aims to promote payment efficiency and financial inclusion. This study explores behavioral and institutional perspectives on QRIS adoption among MSMEs in Indonesia using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with MSME owners across various business sectors, supported by interviews with relevant institutional stakeholders and analysis of policy documents related to QRIS implementation. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and recurring themes. The findings reveal that MSMEs’ adoption of QRIS is strongly influenced by behavioral factors such as perceived ease of use, transaction convenience, customer demand, and trust in digital payment systems. In addition, institutional factors including government support, banking infrastructure, socialization programs, and regulatory frameworks play a crucial role in encouraging QRIS utilization. However, challenges remain, particularly related to digital literacy gaps, internet accessibility, and concerns over transaction fees and technical disruptions. This study contributes to the growing literature on digital payment adoption in developing economies by providing contextual insights into how behavioral and institutional dynamics shape MSMEs’ engagement with QRIS. The findings offer practical implications for policymakers, financial institutions, and stakeholders in designing more inclusive digital payment strategies and strengthening MSMEs’ participation in the digital economy.

Abstract

Background. Teachers play a crucial role as facilitators in creating meaningful learning experiences, particularly in thematic learning that integrates multiple subjects. However, previous studies on teacher facilitation tend to focus on general pedagogical practices and lack strong theoretical integration, especially within Islamic educational contexts. Purpose. This study aims to examine Grade 5 teachers’ understanding and implementation of their role as facilitators in thematic learning at an Islamic elementary school, as well as to explore its theoretical contribution to facilitation practices. Method. This research employed a qualitative case study approach conducted at Sabilul Huda Asy’ari Integrated Islamic Elementary School. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, parents, and the school principal, and documentation analysis. Data analysis involved coding, theme generation, and triangulation to ensure the credibility and validity of the findings. Results. The findings reveal that the teacher’s role as a facilitator is multidimensional, encompassing patience, respect, teacher–student relationships, humility, adaptive teaching strategies, structured lesson planning, motivational support, and collaborative learning facilitation. These dimensions operate as an integrated system that supports students’ cognitive, social, emotional, and moral development. The integration of Islamic values was also found to play a significant role in shaping meaningful learning interactions. Conclusion. This study proposes the Islamic Constructivist Facilitation Model, which conceptualizes teacher facilitation as a holistic process integrating constructivist learning, socio-cultural interaction, and value-based education. The findings highlight that effective facilitation extends beyond instructional practices to include relational, motivational, and moral dimensions, offering important implications for developing holistic teaching practices in elementary education.

Abstract

Background: Metropolitan peripheries concentrate industrial expansion, commuter mobility, administrative growth, and local identity, yet their multilingual public spaces remain unevenly recognised. Objective: This study examines how linguistic visibility, sign-producing authority, and spatial belonging are organised across Kabupaten Bekasi, Kabupaten Sidoarjo, and Kabupaten Bandung. Method: Using a multi-sited linguistic-landscape design, this study analyses 371 coded signs through a Stratified Linguistic Visibility Matrix, a Sign-Authority and Access Grid, and a Spatial Belonging and Place-Making Protocol. Results: Indonesian dominated governmental and transport domains, while English gained prominence in industrial and commercial settings. Local languages appeared most functionally in heritage, neighbourhood, and selected civic or commercial spaces, with Sundanese receiving broader cross-domain visibility in Kabupaten Bandung than local-language resources in Bekasi and Sidoarjo. Sign authorship further differentiated visibility: governmental and corporate actors controlled durable and consequential signage, whereas community-produced local-language displays were more frequently temporary or spatially restricted. Implication: This study’s implication lies in conceptualising linguistic inequality as unequal access to consequential spatial visibility rather than unequal frequency alone. Novelty: By integrating language salience, institutional authority, sign permanence, domain, and semiotic constructions of belonging, this study offers a relational framework for explaining how metropolitan peripheries recognise some linguistic communities while confining others to symbolic cultural presence within changing urban landscapes
