Abstract

Chemistry is considered a complex subject because of its abstract nature. In addition, its relation to everyday life requires a greater understanding of concepts such as reaction-rate material. One way to overcome this problem is to use an appropriate learning model involving students actively developing their ideas, such as the STEM-integrated project-based learning model. Instagram learning media has the most potential to be used as learning media in project-based learning. This research aims to improve students' creative thinking skills through chemistry lab video projects on Instagram. The method used in this study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The sample was from science class in elevent garade students. Based on the result of the hypothesis testing, it shows that there is a significant difference in the use of practicum video projects on Instagram in the STEM integrated project-based learning model (STEM-PjBL) on students' creative thinking skills. This practicum video on Instagram can be an opportunity to improve students' creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Chemistry learning should be able to integrate contextual chemistry problems and present the sophistication of 21st-century learning technology. As a product of 21st-century technology, social media can be used as chemistry learning media. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the views of chemistry teachers and pre-service chemistry teachers toward the potential use of social media as chemistry learning media. The Purposed-designed survey method that involved 76 chemistry teachers and 109 pre-service chemistry teachers as respondents was used in this study. A total of 40 question items were developed and distributed online using a Google form to respondents. Based on the results of the survey conducted, it is known that during online and offline chemistry learning, respondents are accustomed to using YouTube as chemistry learning media. In addition, Instagram is the social media most widely owned by pre-service chemistry teachers, while Facebook is the social media most commonly owned by chemistry teachers. Other results reveal that most respondents have the same screen time, more than 4 hours daily. This screen time is used by respondents for entertainment and looking for news information on social media. With this long screen time not used for learning, it can be a promising opportunity to use social media as chemistry learning media. This study is expected to be a reference for developing social media-based chemistry learning to increase student motivation and achievement. Keywords: Chemistry teacher; Learning media; Pre-service chemistry teacher; Social media; Views

Abstract

The Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5) is an implementation of the Merdeka curriculum, in which students undertake a project to enhance their competence and character in accordance with the Pancasila student profile. The community engagement team from Malang State University links the implementation of P5 to themes and project objectives that align with the needs and conditions of our partners. Based on the results of a survey conducted at our partner site, one of the issues identified is a low level of understanding of waste management, especially plastic waste, within the environment of Sidoarjo Public High School 3. Consequently, expert guidance is required to assist our partners in conducting activities related to the production of organic pots from waste materials. This has led to the emergence of an innovation for utilizing and processing waste into organic pots, which can be achieved through P5 activities. The methodology employed in this community engagement project consists of three stages: preparation, observation, and implementation. Data collected include documentation, observations, and the results of respondent questionnaires, which are analysed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of this community engagement project demonstrate that students can generate creative ideas to produce a variety of attractive organic pot products from waste materials. Furthermore, the questionnaire survey distributed to training participants regarding the Pancasila student profile achieved a 100% response rate, indicating that the students comprehend the significance of the Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5).
