Abstract

In chemistry subjects, one of the things studied is alkaline elemental chemistry. Learning elemental chemistry is not only memorization but requires a thought process to understand it, so learning media is needed. Articulate Storyline 3 is an intuitive program equipped with robust features for developing educational media. Its user-friendly design, similar to PowerPoint, and allows teachers to easily create engaging learning materials. The research aims to produce interactive learning media that were suitable for use in alkaline group elemental materials using articulate storyline 3. The development of this media used a define, design, develop, and disseminate (4-D) model. The learning media was validated by two experts and tested for readability with 12th-grade students. The development research results showed high feasibility, with material experts rating it at 86%, media experts at 84%, and student readability at 85%. Thus, the development of this learning media had met the high feasibility of use.

Abstract

Representational competence is very essential for students because it is associated with the students' ability to use, interpret, translate and integrate chemical representations to understand chemical concepts properly. In this case, implementation of the various representations utilization is required in learning Thermochemistry to improve students' representational competence to fully understand Thermochemistry. Therefore, this study aims to analyze teachers' perceptions towards the understanding and implementation of chemical representations in chemistry learning to improve students' representational competence in thermochemistry. This research is a descriptive quantitative research conducted using survey method that involved 30 chemistry teachers. The sample in this study was taken by purposive random sampling at public and private high schools in East Java. The data were collected through a questionnaire using google form application. According to the results of the study 63.3% of teachers still have difficulty in teaching students the concept of thermochemistry using submicroscopic representations. The majority of teachers only use symbolic representations, even though the other two representations are very important. Although 77% of teachers have understood chemical representations, in teaching and measuring concept understanding, teachers have not integrated chemical representations. This is due to their lack of self-awareness about the importance of using various representations in improving students’ representational competence. Thus, training on representations is necessary in improving teachers’ understanding on chemical representations. The findings of the study stated that teachers’ understanding of representation and teachers’ experience in participating in the trainings contributed to the effectiveness of the implementation of various chemical representations utilization to improve students’ representational competence on the concept of thermochemistry.       Keywords: representational competence, chemical representation, and thermochemistry.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1559-1576

Abstract

Independence in learning can be built through self-regulated learning. The low of student self-regulated learning occurred in students of class X.1 State Senor High School (SMAN) 6 Malang. So far, research related to improving students' self-regulated learning has only focused on strategies without supporting learning media. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research and development study on instructional media that can enhance students' self-regulated learning. The purpose of this study is to develop a G-Sites-based learning media integrated with the TGT type of cooperative learning model to improve students' self-regulated learning. This study employs the ADDIE development model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, carried out systematically. The sampling technique used in this study is purposive sampling, as the research is based on a problem related to low self-regulated learning identified in class X.1. The subjects of this research were students of class X.1, students of class XI as respondents of readability test, and chemistry teachers of SMAN 6 Malang as validators of material and media experts. Data analysis was carried out using a mixed-method approach, both qualitative and quantitative, employing descriptive and percentage analysis techniques. The developed product was declared valid and feasible to use with percentage results on the graphic design aspect of 83%; presentation and use of media 80%; suitability of material 97%; presentation of material 93%; language 88%; suitability of syntax 97%; and suitability of self-regulated learning 100%. The implementation of G-Sites is proven to increase students' self-regulated learning by 14.5%.

Abstract

This journal article aims to develop a five-level reaction diagnostic instrument. The diagnostic instrument was created by combining multiple choice questions with core questions and drawing sub microscopically and symbolically. Based on the research results, this diagnostic test is valid because empirical validation gives Rxy > Rtable at a significance level of 5%. In the reliability test, the items were declared reliable as evidenced by the Level A reliability value; the value of Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.707; The R level was 0.664, and that of the multiple representatives was 0.957. The reliability results show that the five-level diagnostic tool has high criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ learning needs in electrochemistry learning based on the Culturally Responsive Transformative Teaching (CRTT) framework. CRTT is a pedagogical approach that integrates students’ cultural backgrounds and lived experiences into learning to make it more inclusive and meaningful. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method complemented by qualitative data from open responses. A total of 32 Grade XII MIPA students from UM Laboratory High School participated in the study. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire consisting of 15 closed and 5 open-ended items. The results show that 64% of students have a moderate understanding of electrochemistry, with the most difficult subtopics being Galvanic and Electrolysis Cells. Students expressed strong interest (80%) in contextual learning through simple and eco-friendly edukits, as well as enthusiasm for integrating local culture such as keris plating and natural electrolytes from plants. These findings emphasize the importance of developing CRTT-based learning tools that connect chemical concepts with students’ cultural realities to foster deeper conceptual understanding, engagement, and transformative learning experiences.

Abstract

This study specifically investigates the impact of an ethnoscience-based Common Knowledge Construction Model (CKCM) learning approach integrated with podcast media on student learning outcomes and collaboration skills, concentrating on chemical bonding. The quasi-experiment research method was conducted in one of the private schools in Sukoharjo Central Java, involving 24 students in control and experimental classes. This research responds to skill demands in the 21st century to develop quality human resources by introducing innovations that integrate culture and technology into a learning system, focusing on enhancing students' soft skills, especially in collaboration. The results of the data analysis show that the learning model significantly influences student learning outcomes. However, the study indicates that this approach results in a slight improvement in students' collaboration abilities. Yet, further exploration and refinement may be necessary to enhance its effectiveness in fostering collaboration skills. This research contributes valuable insights for educators seeking innovative approaches to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the contemporary education and employment landscape, such as competence, superiority, and competitiveness. Thus, the CKCM learning model has great potential to continue to be developed as a learning model that can answer the challenges of the 21st century.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ethanol content from banana stem and corn cob residues with variations in treatment and fermentation time using a starter culture to accelerate the fermentation process. The method used was an experimental design with treatment variations and fermentation times of 9, 12, and 15 days. Quantitative data were analyzed by measuring the average ethanol content and volume produced for each treatment and fermentation time, then presented in graphical form. The results showed that the highest ethanol content was obtained in treatment A (100% yeast) with 20% ethanol after 15 days of fermentation. In conclusion, the longer the fermentation time, the higher the ethanol content; however, the effect of fermentation time was not always consistent because ethanol content is influenced by the materials used, fermentation duration, and the condition of microorganisms during the fermentation process. Abstract

Effective chemistry learning should be designed to actively engage students in various activities that promote deep understanding of abstract concepts, skill enhancement, and positive behavior development. This study aimed to develop creative content based on a website as a learning media for molecular geometry topics. This study uses the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The study involved 32 students at the high school, 5 educators, and 3 validators. The results show that 100% of the validators stated that the content developed on the website is valid. The developed content aligns with the material concept, and the learning objectives are based on the needs and expected learning outcomes. Feasibility test results indicate that the website meets the criteria for facilities and media quality, aligning with standards for an ideal learning platform. Therefore, it can be concluded that the creative website-based content developed for molecular geometry is highly suitable and can increase students engagement in the learning process and understanding of abstract chemical concepts.

Abstract

The low motivation of students in learning chemistry, especially electrolysis, encourages educators to continue to develop new innovations in the learning process that are tailored to the characteristics and needs of students. This research aims to develop YouTube-based electrolysis learning media to increase student learning motivation. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model until the development stage. Preliminary tests carried out include validity tests, readability tests, and small-scale trials. The developed media was tested in problem-based learning using a one-group pretest-posttest design to assess the effectiveness of the developed media in increasing student learning motivation. Quantitative data obtained from a Likert scale (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) was analyzed using the average percentage calculation technique for validation tests and student perspective tests, as well as standard gain for small-scale trial data. The data obtained were then interpreted into categories of feasibility and improvement, followed by revision based on suggestions from qualitative data. The research results in the form of a YouTube social media account named “YuroLab” with three educational video content. The validation test resulted in an average score of 83.89%, and the student perspective test resulted in a score of 81.99%, placing it in the very feasible category. The increase in student learning motivation resulted in an average standard gain of 0.58 which is included in the moderate category.

Abstract

The concept of merdeka belajar is a characteristic of the kurikulum merdeka. This concept is the basis for teachers in implementing learning, including in the IPAS subject. The purpose of this study is to describe how teachers understand, interpret, and apply independent learning in IPAS learning as well as efforts to continue to fight for IPAS learning with interesting presentations. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, documentation at SDN Banaran 2 Kandangan Kediri which were then described qualitatively descriptively, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique, and validated by triangulation. The results of this study show that the merdeka mengajar platform is a medium for teachers to understand merdeka bealajar, reflection on recognizing themselves and their role as educators as an effort to interpret merdeka bealajar, and the obligation to complete independent training on the merdeka mengajar platform; binding policies from structural education authorities from sub-districts and school clusters; and the absence of guidelines that truly integrate science and social studies in learning are the difficulties of teachers in implementing merdeka bealajar. This research can be a consideration for policy holders, curriculum developers, and education practitioners as an effort to optimally implement the independent curriculum.
