Abstract

Cardiac arrest is one of the highest causes of death in the world. This condition requires the handling of cardiac arrest based on the chain of survival concept. The chain of survival concept is carried out by nurses who have sufficient skills to handle cardiac arrest. Skills can be obtained either through education and training based on simulation or using technology such as self-directed videos. The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in self-direct video and simulations of nurse skills in advanced cardiac life support. This study used Quasi-Experimental Design by pretest-posttest with a control group approach. The 42 respondents were divided into two groups. Skills are measured before and after learning with each method. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-whitney tests. The results showed changes in skills before and after learning in the two methods, with each p-value = 0.000. There were no differences in skills changes before and after learning in both groups with a p-value = 0.437. Learning using self-directed videos and simulations can improve nurse skills in carrying out advanced cardiac life support.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a degenerative disease that leads to increased inflammation and cyclooxygenase protein production, which causes tissue abnormalities. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of caprine CSN1S2 protein against abnormal metabolic pathways in the aorta of DM rats. The twenty-four-animal model was control, diabetes and treatment groups. Histopathological evaluation of the aortic tissue by hematoxylin eosin staining. The expression of cyclooxygenase and inflammatory cytokine was measured by western blotting. In the DM750 groups, the amount of discontinued-endothelial was significantly more reduced than in the other groups. The amount of macrophages in the DM1500- group decreased more than in the DM and DM375 groups. The amount of foam cells in the DM750 and DM1500 groups decreased more than in the DM group and was close to all control groups. The expressions of COX-2 and IL-17 were effectively reduced and vice versa the expression of IL-10 was increased in DM750 compared with the other groups. Meanwhile, COX-1 expression did not change in all groups. This study indicates that caprine CSN1S2 protein at a dose of 750 mg/kg BW has a significant effect on controlling, protecting, and repairing abnormalities in the aortic tissue of T2DM rats.

Abstract

Background. Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammation process of vascu-lar endothelial cells. Increased oxydized LDL(OxLDL) is one of the most potent inducer of atherogenesis. OxLDL induces an increased ROS (Reac-tive Oxigen Species) and also acts as cytotoxic and chemotaxis factor for monocytes result in accumulation of inflammatory cells. Nuclear Factor Kappa Beta(NFkB) is a transcription factor that plays an important role in this inflammatory proces. NFkB compose of heterodimer molecules of p50 and p65, which bind to its inhibitor, IkB, leading to its inactive form in cytoplasm. OxLDL activates NFkB complex by phosphorylate IkB resulting in released p50-p65-IkB binding and translocation of p50-p65 into the nucleus. p50-p65 then binds to promoter and activates transcription of target genes. NFkB activation therefore increase gene and protein expressions of target molecules such TNF-a, ICAM-1, VICAM, etc. This study aimed to examine whether Moringa oleiferainhibits activation of NFkB dan expression of cytokine TNF-aand adhesion molecule ICAM-1.Methods and results.Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with OxLDL were used as model of atherosclerosis. The increased NFkB activity was measured by indirect method using p50 subcellular lo-calization by immunohistochemistry. 40ug/mL OxLDL, 0.01 gr/mL and 0.005 gr/mL Moringa oleiferawere used based on preliminary study.Conclusions. This study showed that OxLDL significantly induce NFkB activation and increase protein expression of TNF-aand (ICAM-1). This study also observed that Moringa oleiferasignificantly inhibit NFkB activa-tion, and prevent an increased TNF-aand ICAM-1 expression at protein level in OxLDL-treated HUVECs as compare to the controls. Moringa oleifera dose of 0.01mg/mL has a better inhibition effect as compare to that of 0.005 gr/mL.

Abstract

Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) is the focus of global health problems with high mortality rate. The delay of reporting and giving a quick CPR are the common causes of the problem. The solution that can be done is to provide CPR training in the community to form a CPR bystander who can provide CPR to the victim. This study aimed to analyze the comparison of CPR training based on mobile application and simulation to the knowledge and skill of CPR. This research was quasi experimental with pretest-posttest design. Fifty respondents were divided into two groups: mobile application and simulation. Respondents were determined by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using dependent t test and independent t test. The result of dependent t test showed that mobile application group had a significant influence on increasing the knowledge (p = 0.000) and the skill (p = 0.000) of CPR. The simulation group also showed the same result. Independent t test showed that there was a significant difference of knowledge between mobile application and simulation. Mobile application had greater score than simulation group (p=0.021). There were also significant differences between mobile application group and simulation group in skill of CPR. The simulation group had greater score of CPR’s skill than mobile application group (p=0.044). The result shows that CPR training using mobile application can give bigger influence on increasing the knowledge, while simulation method can give bigger influence on increasing the skill in doing CPR.
