Abstract

Pearl grass is usually used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation. This research aims to determine the anti inflammatory activity of pearl grass extract gel in rats induced by carrageenan and to evaluate the physical stability of its formulation during the storage of 14 days. The gel physical stability tests consist of organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH viscosity and dispersive power. Anti inflammatory activity test were divided into 5 treatment groups. Group 1 was given a gel without active ingredients as a negative control, group 2 were given diclofenac sodium gel as a positive control and group 3, 4 and 5 were given pearl grass extract gel at concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. The measurements of inflammation volume were performed for 6 hours with intervals of 60 minutes. The results showed that all formulas have good physical stability during storage for homogeneity testing but having instability on pH, viscosity and dispersive power. The activity test showed all formulas have anti-inflammation against carrageenan induced rat. Gel with a concentration of 10% (F2) which more effective to reduce inflammation than the other formulas was selected as the most optimum formula. Key words : Gel, extract gel, pearl grass, Ordelandia  corymbosa L., antiinflammatory

Abstract

Gossypium sp. leaf is one of the plants that contain flavonoids that can act as antioxidants. This study aims to look at the effect of combination of the stearic acid and triethanolamine which function as emulsifier in creams and determine antioxidant activity of cream Gossypium sp. leaf extract. Cream is formulated with a variety of stearic acid and triethanolamine emulsifier that F1 (8%: 2%), F2 (12%: 3%), F3 (16%: 4%). Tests carried out at the first day and the 28th days. Evaluation preparations include organoleptic test, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, and type of the cream. The results showed that the variation of concentration emulsifier that fill quality preparations with some parameters such as organoleptic, homogeneity, the type of cream and viscosity. pH of cream does not qualify are 4.5-6, but still in the neutral pH range (pH ± 7). Antioxidant activity of the cream has a large reduce power at the first day DPPH reduce percent value for F1, F2, and F3 are 80,73%, 83,05% and 83,51% respectively, while after the storage at the 28th days DPPH reduce percent value for F1, F2, and F3 are 80,43%, 82,49% and 79,02% respectively. Preparation creams that fill physical quality cream is F1 by using emulsifier triethanolamine and stearic acid with a concentration of 8%: 2%

Abstract

Basil (Ocimum americanum L.) is a plant that has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis that is a bacteria can cause infection. Basil contains essential oils that act as an antibacterial. This research aims to formulate the essential oil of basil leaves into a liquid soap, determine antibacterial activity against S.aureus and S.epidermidis bacteria with the agar diffusion method using wells and determine the stability of the preparation. Antibacterial activity data that gain was analyzed by one-way ANOVA with a level of trust 95% followed by Duncan test. The results of the research showed basil essential oil liquid soap preparation has antibacterial activity. The analysis results showed that there were significant differences in the concentration of 2%, 3%, 4%, and the Duncan test results showed no significant difference between the concentration of 4% with control (+). The results of the t-student analysis of liquid soap include viscosity, pH and dispersive capacity does not fill the parameters of stability during the storage period of 28 days

Abstract

Patikan kebo (Euphorbia hirta L.) is a plant that have activity of inhibiting the Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria, which was known as the cause of acnes. Flavonoids and tannin as antibacterial compounds which supposedly can act as an active antiacne. Purposes of this research is formulating extract gel of patikan kebo and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis by agar difussion method using paper disc and to know stability of the gel. The result was analyzed by One Way ANOVA with confidence level of 95%, followed by Duncan test. The result of this research showed test antibacterial activity that difference among the concentration extract has a noticeable difference zone of inhibition and extract gel of patikan kebo not have good physical quality during 28 days of storage. Abstract

Research on Gel Formulation of red betel leaf extract (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) for the treatment of burn wounds in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has been conducted. This study aimed to determine variation’s effect of concentration in gel of red betel leaf extract for the treatment of burn wounds in rabbits which had been wounded using hot metal. In this study, the viscous extract was formulated into gel with concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3%. The Gel’s Physical quality evaluation included organoleptic, pH, homogeneity and dispersive ability tests on day 0 until day 28. The gel activity test was performed on 5 rabbits divided into five treatment groups. Each rabbit was burn-wounded using hot metal plate at diameter of 20 mm. Each group was given five wounds consisting of a negative control, 1%, 2%, 3% of extract formula and a positive control. The diameter measurement of the wounds was done on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and the 21st day. Data of wound healing percentage was statistically analyzed with Two-Way ANOVA. The results showed that the gel with 3% of red betel leaf extract of which percentage of healing as much as 85.81% compared to gel extract 1% and 2% with percentage 65,32% dan 76,58%.

Abstract

Buta-Buta (Excoecaria agallocha L.) leaf is a type of mangrove plants that has antibacterial activity againtsbacteriacausing acne, Staphylococcus epidermidis,. This study aims to formulate buta-buta leaf extract with the concentration of 12.5 % into anti-acne gel using two gels, namely HPMC 8% (Formula 1) and Carbopol 940 2%(Formula 2). Antibacterial activity test was carried out by agar diffusion method using well. The stability and antibacterial activity data during 28 days were analyzed statistically using unpaired t-student with a degree of confidence of 95% (α = 0.05). The evaluation results of anti-acne gel form of buta-buta leaf extract in Formula 2 showedbetter characteristics than Formula 1, which include organoleptic examination, homogenity, pH and viscosity during 28 days. The antibacterial test showed the diameter of inhibition zone of Formula 2 is 11.03 mm ±0,01. The statistic analysis showed a significant difference between Formula 2 with a positive control (klindamisin gel).

Abstract

Repellents are substances that can provide protection from nuisance insects by interfering with its sensory function. Lanzones fruit is known to contain triterpenoids which have activity as repelan. This study was to examine the repellent activity and to determine protection capacity of lotion containing ethanol extract of lanzones (Lansium parasiticum) peel against  Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The ethanol extract was obtained by macerating the peel with 96% ethanol. The lotion is prepared in three extract concentrations, 15%; 20%; and 25% followed by its physical stability evaluation and activity examination. Data of pH, viscosity and dispersive capacity evaluation obtained were statistically analyzed using paired samples t-test. The results showed that the lotion preparations are stable on organoleptic observation and homogeneity evaluation. The statistical analysis of pH, viscosity, and the dispersive capacity evaluations showed that their results are significantly different after day 0 to day 28 storage (p> 0.05). Repellent activity examination of the lotion was carried out for 4 hours, using the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Of the three concentrations examined, each concentration has different repellent activity that concentration of 15% and 20% indicated a 100% protection up to 1 minute, and concentration of 25% indicated up to 135 minutes

Abstract

A research has conducted about the microemulsion formulation of purified extract of red spinach leaves (Amaranthus tricolor L.) as an antioxidant supplement with the aim to be able to know the formula to form a microemulsion which meet the physical quality stability and determine antioxidant activity (IC50) of the preparation. Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 96% and then later do the purification using solvent n-hexane and ethyl acetate, after it tested its antioxidant activity. Formula to form a microemulsion purified extract of red spinach leaves clear is to use virgin coconut oil (VCO) by 15%, tween 80 for 40%, 35% glycerin and 10% distilled water. Physical stability test was conducted on the organoleptic test, measuring the diameter of globules, pH test, test and test viscosity centrifugation. Test of antioxidant activity in vitro using DPPH method and using Vitamin C as a positive control. Measurement data were statistically analyzed using paired samples T test. The test results of antioxidant activity microemulsion purified extracts of spinach leaves, red show IC50 values on day 1 was 1.83 ppm and the 28th day amounted to 3.71 ppm. While vitamin C microemulsion shows IC50 values on day 1 of 0.24 ppm and the 28th day of 2.51 ppm. Despite the decreased antioxidant activity, but each of the stocks included in the category of very powerful antioxidants.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang formulasi dalam bentuk sediaan masker gel peel-off. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi optimum polivinil alkohol sebagai pembentuk film dan propilen glikol sebagai humektan terhadap sifat fisik dan kimia sediaan masker gel peel-off sari buah labu kuning, stabilitas formula optimummasker gel dan aktivitas antioksidan sediaan. Formula optimum yang didapatkan yaitu formula 1 dengan konsentrasi PVA 10% dan PG 10% kemudian dilakukan evaluasi karakteristik mutu fisik kimia dan stabilitas meliputi pengujian daya sebar, pH, viskositas dan lama pengeringan. Pengamatan dilakukan tiap minggu selama 4 minggu penyimpanan pada suhu ruang. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan secara statistik menggunakan metode paired sample t test. Hasil penelitian masker gel peel-off pada formula optimum menunjukkan sediaan stabil selama penyimpanan dimana tidak terjadi perubahan yang signifikan pada tiap parameter uji. Aktivitas antioksidan gel masker peel-off tergolong kuat yang dinyatakan dengan peresen peredaman formula optimum pada hari ke- 2 adalah 75,18% dan 73,37% pada hari ke- 30 setelah penyimpanan pada suhu ruang
