Abstract

Circular economy-based food technology innovation plays important role in overcoming environmental and sustainability challenges. This study aims to improve the quality of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) jam by adding its peel, in line with SNI 3746-2008. The study will also explore the application of circular economy principles in the jam production process. This research uses both quantitative and qualitative methods, including Total Plate Count tests, organoleptic tests (condition and hedonic), fibre tests, moisture content tests, and literature reviews. The research results show that the addition of red dragon fruit peel improves the quality of the jam, with a Total Plate Count that meets standards, making it safe for consumption at 3.6x10² Colony/g. Three parameters typically state the organoleptic acceptance level for condition tests as normal: colour (97%), odor (65%), and taste (74%). The hedonic test showed that the panelists liked the colour of the jam (7) and somewhat liked the odor and taste of the jam (6). The addition of red dragon fruit peel confirmed the positive fibre content. However, the panelists slightly disliked the jam's texture (4) due to its high moisture content (48.6%), indicating the need for improvement. From a circular economy perspective, this contributes to reducing biomass waste, utilising resources efficiently, increasing the added value of products, and providing a positive social and economic impact. This research's limitations include variations in raw material formulation that affect the final results, as well as the need for further studies to optimise moisture content and improve organoleptic test results.

Abstract

Biofilms, structured communities of microorganisms, have emerged as a subject of significant interest across various industries due to their unique biodegradable and sustainable characteristics. Hair waste is an incredibly rich source of keratin, and this abundance makes it a promising candidate as a fundamental building block for the development of biodegradable plastics. This study focuses on sustainable biofilms derived from biodegradable materials, specifically a unique combination of starch and hair waste. Machine Learning models, implemented in RapidMiner, were utilized to predict the tensile strength of these biofilms, with the goal of enhancing quality control in their production. Neural Networks and Deep Learning methods were employed to compare their predictive capabilities, assessing both their strengths and limitations. Through rigorous data collection, feature identification, and detailed data analysis, critical factors influencing the quality of the biofilms were identified. The results revealed the remarkable predictive accuracy of the Neural Net model, particularly for Ratio 40, while the performance of the Deep Learning model varied across different ratios. The lower RMSE of the Neural Net model indicated a more precise alignment between the predicted and actual values, distinguishing it as the superior model. This research contributes to the advancement of sustainable biofilm development, offering eco-friendly solutions through the use of unconventional materials. Both models offer valuable predictive capabilities, and the choice between them may depend on the specific requirements and contexts of the application. In conclusion, the performance of the Neural Net and Deep Learning models in predicting stress in tensile strength varies across different ratios.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effective concentration of rice bran oil which can protect against ultraviolet (UV) rays as well as formulate it in compact powder preparation followed by determination of its Sun Protecting Factor (SPF) value. Rice bran samples were extracted using the Soxhlet extraction method with n-hexane: ethanol (1:1) as the solvent. Further identification of the γ-oryzanol in rice bran oil was carried out using TLC silica gel GF254 with eluent of n-hexane:ethyl acetate (3:1). The obtained γ-oryzanol in rice bran oil was used as the ingredient to develop the compact powder which is made into five formulas with 0,05 %-0,25 % concentration. All formulas were characterized, including homogeneity, adhesion and crack test. UV-Visible spectrophotometry was used to determine the SPF value of rice bran oil and its compact powder. The identification results demonstrated a positive presence of the chemical γ-oryzanol in the rice bran oil. At concentrations of 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 ppm, rice bran oil may protect against UV rays with SPF values ranging from 1.741 to 11.884. The result showed that all formulas dispersed homogeneously, performed well in terms of compactness, and had no breaks or cracks discovered. Meanwhile, the SPF values of all formulas are found to be 1.390 and 1.274. The results indicate that the SPF values are shallow and are included in the minimal SPF category (2-4) in protecting against UV rays.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between folklore and education. What cultural values can be used for educational purposes, and how can they be used? The data is taken from the story of Pang Alui, a folklore of people in the interior of Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. This story is an archive of researchers' oral literature research from 1996 to 1997. Interviews with several people were also conducted to get their views on the values of the folklore for the education of the younger generation. Folklore has a lot of value in learning. There are educational values, among others: persevering, learning and meticulous, cooperation and willingness to share. More than that, folklore is also meaningful in terms of language and cultural information. Given its proximity to society, folklore can serve as a pedagogical resource in an educational environment, both in specialized subjects and integrated into other lessons. This study has implications for the awareness of all parties to pay attention to the existence of folklore in the community; teachers utilize the material, students become closer to cultural heritage, researchers do documentation, and stakeholders maintain the continuity of the literature. This study has important significance in looking back at the relationship between folklore and education, in particular, in reaffirming that folklore must be documented and inherited. The inheritance can be done through educational institutions.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development strategy of Women Farmer Groups (KWT) through the Sustainable Food Farms (P2L) program in Parepare City. Analysis of internal and external factors shows that the success of KWT is influenced by forces such as government support through P2L, strong KWT institutions, and the availability of companions. Meanwhile, weaknesses include a lack of fulfillment of market demands and internal group conflicts. In facing opportunities and threats, the proposed strategy involves selecting crops with short harvest times, partnerships with farmers and traders, and increasing group awareness of the final results of the P2L program. Applying the SWOT matrix produces main strategies, such as increasing production by focusing on crops of interest, diversifying plantings, and optimizing yard functions. The research concludes that the KWT in Parepare City is in an aggressive condition, showing significant development potential. This development strategy includes strengthening institutions, increasing production, and diversifying crops to optimize the potential of natural and human resources. Education, training, and new technologies are keys to success in overcoming challenges such as price fluctuations and climate change in the urban agricultural sector.

Abstract

This research aims to explore pluralism in West Kalimantan, a paradoxical place in Indonesia, where multi-religious and multi-ethnic people meet. For social researchers, this situation is unique because, on the one hand, West Kalimantan is known as a conflict-prone area in Indonesia. On the other hand, part of its territory, namely the Singkawang area, is called the most tolerant area. Previous researchers assumed this situation was false because conflicts between religious and ethnic groups still occur frequently. However, the communication strategies and social interactions by ethnic groups in this area have rarely been investigated. The role of the Chinese Muslim group is significant in bringing about harmonization between the polarised groups. Chinese Muslims have provided a link that is socially very instrumental in deconstructing the firm ethnic and religious group identities and boundaries. Although they seem to form their own identity, two sides of that identity are related to religious groups and ethnic groups. Their presence thus balances inter-group communications and interactions. In conclusion, theoretically, the presence of the Chinese Muslim community in West Kalimantan breaks the ice of identity and becomes a bridge of communication between communities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the legal position of children from the results of sirri marriage and its implications for civil rights. This researchers uses descriptive methods with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the practice of nikah sirri is very widespread in society so that it is caused by several factors such as economic factors, the desire of children to marry underage, avoid adultery and the lack of public understanding of the practice of sirri marriage itself. The position of children from sirri marriage is treated very well like children in general, namely getting a living, there is no difference in the provision of rights and obligations from parents, as well as the love of both parents. The civil rights of children from sirri marriage according to Islamic law, are in accordance with the provisions of Islamic law, because children of sirri marriage are treated like other children, while according to positive law the civil rights of children of sirri marriage are not obtained as fully as other children in general, because the sirri marriage conducted by both parents is not recorded in the official document of the country.

Abstract

This article analyzes the integration of Islamic law and customary law in shaping the religious identity of the Malay Buyan community in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. While Islamic law plays a central role in regulating social and religious life, local customary law remains deeply embedded in the community’s legal consciousness and socio-cultural framework. Previous studies have often treated these two legal systems as separate or even contradictory. However, this study challenges such a dichotomous perspective by demonstrating that Islamic law and customary law engage in an ongoing process of negotiation, resulting in an adaptive and contextually dynamic legal framework. Using a socio-legal approach, this research collects data through in-depth interviews with ten key informants, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Islamic law does not replace customary law but is instead integrated into the local legal system, influencing various aspects of social order, family structures, and the sustainable management of natural resources. This integration is evident in the use of Islamic legal terminology, the substance of legal norms, the mechanisms for customary fines, and the role of Islamic religious leaders in the codification of customary law. These findings challenge the prevailing bipolar view that positions Islamic law and customary law as inherently opposing systems. Instead, this study highlights a dynamic and integrative interaction between the two legal traditions, ensuring both social harmony and legal continuity. Ultimately, the article argues that the coexistence of Islamic and customary law is not a source of conflict but a mutually reinforcing and evolving process that contributes to strengthening both religious and cultural identity in a predominantly Muslim society.

Abstract

Accountability and transparency are foundational pillars of effective public administration, serving as essential components for building trust, enhancing service delivery, and fostering good governance. In recent decades, the global emphasis on improving public administration has been fueled by the increasing demands of citizens for efficient, equitable, and reliable public services. The principles of accountability and transparency have become particularly relevant in addressing governance challenges, including corruption, inefficiency, and lack of responsiveness. Accountability, in the context of public administration, refers to the obligation of public officials to answer for their actions and decisions to stakeholders, including citizens, institutions, and regulatory bodies. It involves mechanisms that ensure the responsible use of power, adherence to legal and ethical standards, and alignment of actions with public interest.
