Abstract

Hibiscus sabdariffa L., also referred to as roselle, is commonly utilized in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Roselle contains bioactive compounds such as phenolics, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, and organic acids, which have pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant, antibacterial, immune booster, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hypertensive properties. There are many studies regarding the pharmacological activities of roselle extract and its applications. However, there has been no research to study the effectiveness of the solvent in testing roselle petal extracts against antibacterial, antioxidant, and antidiabetic activities, simultaneously. This research used two kinds of polar solvents, dH2O and ethanol, with various concentrations for antibacterial activity test by five pathogenic bacteria, for antioxidant test by the DPPH method, and for antidiabetic test by the alpha-glucosidase inhibition method. The result showed that the ethanol extract of roselle had higher antibacterial activity compare to the roselle water extract. Antioxidant activity of roselle ethanol extract at 20% concentration had the highest activity 69.75 ± 0.002%; while, the 100% concentration of roselle water extract had the highest antioxidant activity 138.73 ± 0.013%. antidiabetic activity of roselle ethanol and water extract at 100% concentration had the highest activity 1,195.44 ± 0.007% and 1,552.49 ± 0.069%, respectively.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to explore the problem-solving skills of biology education students and to develop innovative strategies through the implementation of a Citizen Science Project (CSP)–based learning model. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 28 students from the Biology Education Study Program. The research instruments consisted of a problem-solving test and a needs-analysis questionnaire. The findings indicate that students’ problem-solving skills are still within the medium-to-low category, with an average score of 43.42%. The Real-World Applications indicator achieved the highest score, while the Identify Situation indicator recorded the lowest. These findings highlight a gap between students’ analytical abilities and their conceptual-procedural skills. The implementation of CSP is considered to have strong potential to bridge this gap, as it fosters students’ engagement in solving authentic problems in collaborative, contextual, and applied ways. Accordingly, CSP holds significant promise for enhancing critical, creative, and solution-oriented thinking skills among biology education students.Keywords: 21st century skills, Citizen Science Project, learning innovation, problem-solving skills, student collaboration.

Abstract

 Picking the wrong learning model can obstruct the growth of students' competencies. This research seeks to evaluate the efficacy of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model when integrated with the STEAM approach to boost science process skills, creative thinking, and critical thinking among high school students during biology lessons. Employing a quasi experiment with a quantitative method, the study included 65 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 9 Makassar, separated into an experimental group (PjBL-STEAM) and a control group (PjBL). Data collection utilized observation forms and written assessments, followed by analysis through N-Gain tests and inferential statistics. Findings indicated that the STEAM-combined PjBL model managed to enhance creative thinking abilities (N-Gain 0.52) and critical thinking (N-Gain 0.50) at a moderate level, although it fell short in sufficiently promoting science process skills, which remained in the good range. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan hasil belajar biologi dan keterampilan kolaborasi peserta didik antara penerapan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek dan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing pada peserta didik kelas VII SMP Negeri 6 Paryem. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu dengan desain pretest–posttest control group design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas VII yang berjumlah 75 orang. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas kelas VII B sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas VII C sebagai kelas eksperimen yang dipilih secara acak. Data hasil belajar dikumpulkan menggunakan tes pilihan ganda sebanyak 30 butir soal, sedangkan keterampilan kolaborasi diukur melalui angket sebanyak 20 pernyataan. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial dengan uji t (independent sample t-test). Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata hasil belajar biologi dan keterampilan kolaborasi peserta didik yang belajar menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan peserta didik yang belajar menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing. Hasil analisis inferensial menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan hasil belajar biologi dan keterampilan kolaborasi antara kedua kelompok pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, model pembelajaran berbasis proyek lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar biologi dan keterampilan kolaborasi peserta didik.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh efikasi diri terhadap motivasi kelas X SMAN 14 Bone, efikasi diri terhadap prestasi belajar biologi pada kurikulum merdeka kelas X SMAN 14 Bone, efikasi diri dan motivasi secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar biologi pada kurikulum merdeka kelas X SMAN 14 Bone. Jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode ex-post facto. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penyebab dari suatu peristiwa. Populasi yang diteliti adalah kelas X SMAN 14 Bone yang terdiri dari 233 peserta didik, sampel sebesar 30% dari jumlah populasi maka digunakan sampel sebanyak 70 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu angket dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif dan statistik inferensial, dengan pengujian hipotesis dengan uji korelasi product moment dan analisis regresi linier sederhana dan berganda, serta uji determinansi. Hasil penelitian ditemukan sebagai berikut terdapat pengaruh efikasi diri terhadap prestasi belajar peserta didik kelas X SMAN 14 Bone, terdapat pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar biologi peserta didik kelas X SMAN 14 Bone, dan terdapat pengaruh efikasi diri dan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar biologi peserta didik kelas X SMAN 14 Bone. Prestasi peserta didik yang tinggi dapat tercapai dengan peningkatan efikasi diri dan motivasi belajar peserta didik.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian semu (quasi eksperimen) yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan hasil belajar peserta didik serta mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran berbasis proyek terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan hasil belajar Biologi peserta didik kelas VII di SMPN 1 Tellu Limpoe. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas VII, dengan sampel sebanyak 64 peserta didik yang terdiri atas dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, yang dipilih menggunakan teknik random sampling. Kelas eksperimen menerapkan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek, sedangkan kelas kontrol menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui angket kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan tes pilihan ganda hasil belajar. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial berupa uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan hasil belajar Biologi peserta didik pada kelas eksperimen berada pada kategori lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran berbasis proyek berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan hasil belajar peserta didik.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perhatian orang tua, minat belajar, gaya belajar, dan hasil belajar IPA Biologi peserta didik, serta menganalisis pengaruh perhatian orang tua, minat belajar, dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik di Kecamatan Banggae Timur Kabupaten Majene. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode ex post facto dengan pendekatan korelasional. Populasi penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas IX pada SMP terakreditasi A di Kecamatan Banggae Timur, yaitu SMPN 2 Majene, SMPN 3 Majene, SMPN 4 Majene, dan SMPN 5 Majene, dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 214 peserta didik yang ditentukan melalui teknik stratified random sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket perhatian orang tua, angket minat belajar, angket gaya belajar, serta tes hasil belajar IPA Biologi. Teknik analisis data meliputi analisis statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji linearitas, uji multikolinearitas, analisis regresi linier sederhana, dan analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perhatian orang tua memiliki nilai rata-rata 72,75, minat belajar 64,46, gaya belajar 64,97, dan hasil belajar IPA Biologi 43,03. Terdapat pengaruh signifikan perhatian orang tua dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar IPA Biologi, sedangkan minat belajar tidak berpengaruh signifikan. Selain itu, terdapat pengaruh tidak langsung perhatian orang tua dan minat belajar terhadap hasil belajar IPA Biologi melalui gaya belajar.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the constructivist Biology learning experience of high school students in South Sulawesi. The research subjects consisted of 525 students from 7 districts/cities in South Sulawesi. The method used in this study was a descriptive survey using a closed questionnaire instrument and a Likert scale. The data collection technique used a Google Forms platform that contained a questionnaire. The data obtained were processed using descriptive and inferential analyses. The results showed that the constructivist biology learning experience of students in South Sulawesi included learning personality indicators of 64.20%, reflection thinking of 68.89%, problem solving and investigation relevance to daily life of 69.55%, collaborative learning of 71.00%, discussion of 72.75%, teaching scaffolding of 68.29%. Then a very low correlation coefficient value is shown in the learning personality indicator with problem solving investigation of 0.15. The strong correlation coefficient value on the collaborative learning indicator with discussion is 0.60. The findings of this study indicate that the overall constructivist learning experience of students in South Sulawesi is still moderately low and the correlation coefficient between the dominant indicators is still weak. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the constructivist Biology learning experience to optimize learning effectiveness.

Abstract

Biology learning requires mastery of concepts as well as communication and collaboration skills relevant to the 21st century. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing deep learning-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) compared to deep learning-based Direct Instruction (DI) on students’ communication and collaboration skills. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two 12th-grade classes at State High School 3 Makassar, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments consisted of validated questionnaires on communication and collaboration skills. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the learning model had a significant effect on communication skills (F=53.59; p<0.05) and collaboration skills (F=8.89; p<0.05) after controlling for initial ability. The posttest average for communication in the PjBL class (84.81) was higher than that in the DI class (70.60), as was the case for collaboration (81.26 vs. 74.00). This study concludes that the deep learning-based PjBL model is more effective than the deep learning-based DI model in improving students’ communication and collaboration skills in biotechnology learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Google Sites–based reproductive health education on students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 60 eleventh-grade students divided into two groups of 30 students each. The experimental group received reproductive health instruction using a Google Sites–based deep learning approach, while the control group received the same approach without Google Sites. Data were collected using a multiple-choice test (knowledge) and Likert-scale questionnaires (attitudes and behaviors), and analyzed using Independent Sample t-tests. Results showed significant differences between groups (p = 0.001). The experimental group demonstrated higher improvements: knowledge increased from 47.07 to 82.93 (76.2%), compared to 41.20 to 58.93 (43.0%) in the control group; attitudes increased from 61.07 to 89.27 (46.2%), compared to 48.40 to 70.50 (45.7%); and behaviors increased from 61.03 to 86.07 (41.0%), compared to 60.27 to 66.20 (9.8%). These findings indicate that integrating Google Sites as a digital learning medium enhances engagement and learning outcomes. In conclusion, Google Sites–based instruction is an effective strategy for improving students’ reproductive health knowledge, fostering positive attitudes, and promoting healthier behaviors.
