Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of using white mussel flour fish flour and coconut oil on carcass percentage and abdominal fat percentage in broilers. This study used a completely randomized design consist 4 treatments and 5 replications. The study used DOC ( Day Old Chick ) with the strain Lohman MB 202 Platinum for 20 animals . The treatment in this study was ration without using white mussel flour (P0), ration using 10% white mussel flour (P1), ration using 12.5% white mussel flour (P2), ration using 15% white mussel flour (P3). Variables observed were carcass percentage and abdominal fat percentage. Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) if there is a significant effect then proceed with Duncan's Multiple range test significance level of 5%. The results of the analysis showed that P3 showed a significant difference with the control treatment (P0) and treatment P1 (p<0.05). The best broiler carcass percentage was in treatment P3 (76.02%) and P2 (74.7%) while the lowest was in treatment P0 (71.20%). The results of Duncan's test on the percentage of abdominal fat showed that the control treatment (P0), treatment P1, treatment P2, and treatment P3 were not significantly different (p> 0.05).

Abstract

The Asian vine snake (Ahaetulla prasina) is an arboreal snake that can inhabit various types of trees in both lowland and highland areas. Based on its habitat, the Asian vine snake has a high potential to be infected by parasites. One of the parasitic diseases that can infect snakes is blood protozoa, which have the potential to be zoonotic. It can be transmitted between animals and humans through food contamination due to environmental pollution by snake feces which contain infective stage of protozoa. Clinical symptoms of this infection include lethargy, dehydration, and anorexia, which are common signs of parasitism. Case reports related to blood protozoa in snakes in the Indonesia are still very limited and have never been reported in Asian vine snake, even though many people keep Asian vine snake as exotic pets.

Abstract

This research aims to determine reproductive data on Sumatran elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus) in the ETC and ERU of Way Kambas National Park, Indonesia during 1988-2021. Data recorded from the elephant population at both locations (ETC and ERU) includes the number, gender of elephants, elephant calves, ages and birth dates. Calving intervals and service periods were calculated from calving records of cows with a minimum parity of two. Data collection produced data on 47 elephant calves from 13 female elephants with at least twice the parity and 12 primiparous cows. Elephant reproductive records at ETC and ERU were: age (37.44 ± 9.03 vs. 29.75 ± 3.30 years), parity (2.78 ± 1.09 vs. 2.50 ± 0.58), and age at first birth (18, 11 ± 3.92 vs. 17.75 ± 0.50 years). While the calving interval was 1857.56 ± 870.81 vs. 1833.00 ± 305.18 days, and service period respectively 1229.44 ± 846.18 vs. 1210.50 ± 283.59 days, respectively. It can be concluded that the calving interval and service period for captive elephants at ETC and ERU were not much different and were within the normal range. Young cows showed better reproductive efficiency than older cows. Monitoring calves is very important. Further assistance is needed to improve elephant mobile veterinary services, increase diagnostic laboratory capacity, and educate camp managers, veterinary assistants, and mahouts about elephant diseases, their monitoring and treatment. In addition, the use of reproductive technology such as monitoring ovulation using ultrasound and carrying out artificial insemination was expected to increase reproductive efficiency.

Abstract

This research aimed to characterize VirB4 protein of local isolate Brucella abortus with Western blotting method. The result showed that there were four protein bands with molecular weights of 64.61, 59.25, 21.63, and 16.70 kDa by triggering a reaction between the whole Brucella abortus and anti-Brucella abortus serum. The results also revealed that there was only one protein band with a molecular weight of 59.25 kDa triggering a reaction between the whole Brucella abortus and anti-VirB Brucella abortus serum. Finally, it can be concluded that VirB4 protein can affect the virulence factor of Brucella abortus, successfully characterized with the appearance of one band with a molecular weight of 59.25 kDa by using Western blotting method.
