Abstract

Gerbage chicory is a by-product or the result of weeding most vegetable parts and is easily found in traditional markets but cannot be consumed by humans anymore. This study aimed to analyze the effect of flour of chicory by-products on the percentage of giblet (gizzard, liver, and heart) of broiler chickens. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. In each treatment replication, there were 5 broiler chickens. The treatments used were: P0 = ration without flour of chicory by-products, P1 = ration with 5% flour of chicory by-products, P2 = ration with 10% flour of chicory by-products, and P3 = ration with 15% flour of chicory by-products. The results showed that the average weight of the gizzard, liver, and heart was 2.54-3.11%, 2.86-3.41%, and 0.64-0.71%, respectively. The provision of flour of chicory by-products did not significantly affect the percentage of heart. However, it had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the percentage of liver and gizzard. The percentage of broiler liver increased with the treatment level, and the percentage of gizzard increased at the level of treatment of 5% and 10% flour of chicory by-products. It can be concluded that the addition of flour from chicory by-products to broilers is still safe and does not interfere with the performance of giblets up to a level of 15%

Abstract

Research about CdO thin film deposition has been conducted using the chemical immersion technique. The deposition process was conducted by immersing the glass substrate into the solution couple of cadmium acetate dehydrate (Cd(CH3COO)2.2H2O) by flitting with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The solutions' concentrations were varied to investigate the influence of the concentration ratio of both solutions on the characteristic of resulted in CdO film. To strengthen the atomic bonding and discharge the rest of the water content, the resulting films were then heated in the furnace at 225 oC. Based on the measurement result of SEM-EDX, the Cd mass percentage in CdO thin films is quantitatively dependent on the concentration of cadmium acetate dehydrate solution. Also, the results of optical band gap determinations show that the increasing ratio of Cd to O content was a tendency in linear relation with the stricture of its optical band gap.

Abstract

Background: The degree of quality health is greatly influenced by existing health services. Thus, assessing the service quality during the COVID-19 pandemic is necessary. Objective: This study aimed to describe the quality of services in health service facilities in North Buton District during the pandemic. Method: A descriptive survey research was conducted in 2021. A total of 400 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented in the form of frequency distribution tables and narratives. Results: The quality of service (tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) was sufficient. Changes in the quality of health services were more likely related to changes in service flow and operating hours. However, although the service quality was adequate, some respondents (8% to 12%) complained about unavailability of hand sanitizer in the waiting room, inadequate detailed information related to COVID-19, slow registration process, lack of medical personnel, and less friendly healthcare workers. Conclusion: This study may serve as input for health policymakers and hospital and public health center managers to improve health service quality.

Abstract

Kampong chicken is the result of the domestication of the red jungle fowl (Red jungle fowl or Gallus gallus), raised by their ancestors for generations. It has spread to almost all parts of Indonesia. This study aims to identify and analyze the comparison of the quantitative characteristics of native chickens in the Uepai District and Soropia District, Konawe Regency. This research was conducted in Uepai District and Soropia District, Konawe Regency, from April to December 2022, using 400 kampong chickens aged 6-24 months consisting of 200 males and 200 females divided in the two study locations. This research shows that the quantitative characteristics of native chickens in the Uepai District have a higher average value than in the Soropia District, both for males and females. The coefficient of diversity value for body size of kampong chickens in Uepai District and Soropia District shows the medium (5≥) to high (15≥) category for both males and females.

Abstract

The absence of microbial contamination is one requirement for the viability of using chicken meat as a feed ingredient. Many microbes that are implicated as food pollutants come from bacterial families. This study aimed to identify and characterize contaminating bacteria in chicken meat processed at the local market's chicken slaughterhouse in Kendari. In this study, both descriptive and experimental methods were applied. Differentially selective mediums for Gram-negative bacteria were used for bacterial isolation. Bacteria were identified using the Eosin methylene blue agar (EMBA) medium, which can ferment lactose and sucrose. The presence of bacteria was confirmed macroscopically using biochemical characteristics and microscopically using Gram stain staining. The ability of bacteria to ferment glucose, sucrose, and lactose and their ability to produce gas and H2S were identified based on their physicalchemical properties through the Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA) test. The results showed that 96% of the examined samples were microbially contaminated. The various types of infecting bacteria included 52% of Pseudomonas sp., 68% of Salmonella sp., and 36% of Escherichia coli. Poor hygiene practices are the main cause of contamination in chicken meat during production. The local market in Kendari sells chicken meat that does not fulfill food safety criteria, especially given bacterial infection.

Abstract

Andrographis paniculate (AP) is one of the traditional herbs of Indonesia that contains andrographolide and has immunomodulator, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. Leucocyte is part of the specific immune system that protects the organism from infection by pathogens, and its response can be affected by immunomodulators such as andrographolide. This study used 60 mice divided into 5 treatment groups of different AP extract doses (control negative, control positive, KS1: 200 mg/kg BW, KS2: 300 mg/kg BW, KS3: 400 mg/kg BW) and was done by completely randomized design. AP extract was given to treatment groups for 21 days. On day 22, mice were orally challenged by Salmonella typhi infection, and blood samples were collected on day 24. Results of this study showed a decreasing leucocyte count in mice treated with AP extract and challenged with S. typhi compared to control positive (untreated and infected group). The results also showed a shift in differential leucocyte percentage in treated groups closer to the normal number in the control negative (untreated and uninfected) group. AP extract at 400 mg/kg BW can be used as an immunomodulator to improve mice's immune response to Salmonella typhi infection.
