Abstract

This study critically examines the implementation of character education in schools through the perspective of educational sociology with a critical perspective. Using a qualitative research design with a literature study approach, this study analyzes the mechanisms of symbolic violence, the reproduction of social inequality, and power relations in the practice of character education. The results of the study revealed that the implementation of character education operates as an arena of meaning contestation where the values of the dominant group are hegemonized through curriculum and school practices. The mechanism of symbolic violence works through habituation that reproduces the habitus of the dominant class, while the power relations between teachers, students, and institutions shape conformist subjectivity through disciplinary and normalization technologies. Structural challenges such as limited resources, lack of teacher training, and low parental participation indicate that the problem of character education is political-paradigmatic. This research offers an alternative perspective that emphasizes an emancipatory approach through critical awareness, reflective pedagogy, and a commitment to social justice to transform character education from an instrument of social reproduction into a medium of liberation.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore how the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in classroom instruction enhances learning motivation among junior high school students. Although previous studies have shown that AI can support adaptive and engaging learning, most research has focused on higher education or fully online settings. Empirical evidence describing how AI influences student motivation in face-to-face junior high school classrooms in Indonesia remains limited. This study addresses that gap by examining students' and teachers' experiences using AI tools such as educational chatbots, learning analytics applications, and adaptive learning platforms.Methodology: A descriptive qualitative design was employed. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. Participants included students, teachers, and school administrators involved in AI-supported learning activities. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns related to students' motivational changes and their interaction with AI tools during the learning process. Results: The findings show that AI integration enhances learning motivation in three key ways: (1) improving students' attention and interest through interactive and adaptive content; (2) increasing students' confidence via instant feedback and personalized guidance provided by AI systems; and (3) encouraging higher engagement through AI-based activities such as automated quizzes and digital simulations. Despite these benefits, challenges were also identified, including teacher readiness, limited availability of digital devices, and varied levels of students' digital literacy.Applications/Originality/Value: This study offers contextualized insights into how AI enhances learning motivation among junior high school students within Indonesian classrooms. It contributes to the limited body of qualitative research on AI in basic education, highlights practical considerations for effective AI integration, and provides valuable implications for future research on intelligent technologies in schools.

Abstract

The research aims to explore the development and application of a local wisdom-based learning environment in the context of modern education. By adopting a qualitative approach, the study examines various strategies and methodologies for integrating local values, practices, and knowledge into the school curriculum, as well as identifying their impact on student learning experiences. Research results show that integrating local wisdom into education not only enriches curricula but also improves the relevance and contextualization of learning, facilitating critical thinking, creativity, and intercultural understanding among students. In addition, this approach supports the preservation of local culture and the promotion of diversity. This research suggests that to effective implementation, it requires teacher training, development of learning resources, and active involvement of the local community. Therefore, the importance of creating a local wisdom-based learning environment thus holds significant potential in improving the quality of education and preparing students with relevant capabilities to face global challenges with a strong local perspective.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesian education is increasingly shaped by digitalization and global benchmarks, producing an emphasis on cognitive performance while cultural and moral formation receives limited space, creating a need to reassess Ki Hadjar Dewantara's humanistic philosophy in relation to current policy. This study aims to analyze how Dewantara's key educational principles correspond to the objectives of the National Education System Law (Law No. 20/2003) and to identify the forms of tension that arise when these values are implemented in 21st-century schooling. A qualitative approach was employed through document analysis of Dewantara's texts and the National Education Law, supported by in-depth interviews with 10 key informants (teachers, school leaders, and education experts) and non-participant observation in two Taman Siswa schools in Yogyakarta and Semarang. The findings show substantive alignment between Dewantara's emphasis on moral character, learner autonomy, and contextual learning and the mandates of Article 3 regarding holistic development. However, autonomy is reduced in practice to scheduling flexibility, while bureaucratic reporting and centralized curriculum controls restrict creative pedagogy. Field observations also show that cultural-arts learning still contributes to character formation but is difficult to institutionalize under efficiency-driven policy incentives. The study concludes that harmony at the philosophical level does not ensure operational freedom, institutional reform through reduced administrative burden, greater school-level discretion, and cultural-based instruction is necessary to revitalize Dewantara's values in contemporary policy implementation

Abstract

This study investigates the use of slang by Generation Z on the social media platform TikTok, focusing on the Indonesian context. As digital communication becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, slang emerges as a linguistic tool for identity expression, creativity, and group affiliation. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach supported by observation, document analysis, and interviews with Gen Z TikTok users. A total of 32 slang terms were identified and analyzed based on their forms, functions, and sociocultural implications. The findings reveal that TikTok slang is not only influenced by global digital trends but also localized through code-mixing with Bahasa Indonesia. Slang functions as a medium for humor, critique, solidarity, and participation in viral content, reflecting the dynamic linguistic practices of digital youth. This study contributes to digital sociolinguistics by highlighting how audiovisual platforms like TikTok shape the evolution of language in informal online spaces.
