Abstract

This study explores the analytical thinking skills of prospective Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) teacher students in understanding seasonal changes in Lampung through the ethnoscience-based RADEC learning model integrated with the local Ngumbai Sabah tradition. The aim is to bridge scientific concepts with local wisdom through both verbal and visual representations. The research employed a quantitative experimental design with a One-Pretest–Posttest design. The sample consisted of PGMI students from Class H, and the instrument was an open-ended essay test assessing students’ abilities to differentiate, organize, connect concepts, and present them visually. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, including a paired-sample t-test to evaluate the effectiveness of RADEC.Results show that the ethnoscience-based RADEC model effectively improves students’ ability to differentiate and organize concepts. However, their ability to connect concepts comprehensively remains limited, especially in visual representations. The main hindering factors are misconceptions regarding basic science concepts, particularly seasonal change phenomena, and difficulties in representing the relationships between scientific concepts and Lampung’s local wisdom. Most visual outputs remain descriptive and fragmented, highlighting the need to strengthen higher-order analytical thinking skills and visual literacy.

Abstract

This research is driven by the urgent need for managerial leadership in integrating climate change issues into Early Childhood Education (ECE) curricula, an effort often hindered by geographical disparities and resource accessibility. This study aims to analyze the managerial readiness of ECE principals in designing climate change curricula and to conduct a comparative study on the availability of environmental intelligence learning media between urban centers and suburban areas in Bandung. A descriptive-comparative quantitative method was employed, involving 45 ECE principals and administrators as respondents. Data were collected through validated questionnaires covering curriculum design dimensions and infrastructure availability. The findings reveal significant differences in managerial readiness and the availability of learning media between institutions in the urban center (Zone B) and suburban areas (Zone D). Principals in the urban center demonstrated higher scores in curriculum formalization and access to digital media, whereas suburban institutions relied more heavily on nature-based media but remained administratively underdeveloped. Nevertheless, both regions showed a strong alignment in their views regarding the integration of environmental theology as a foundational element of the curriculum. This study concludes by emphasizing the importance of managerial standardization and the equitable distribution of learning media to bridge the climate literacy gap across different regions in Bandung.

Abstract

Indonesia's multilingual complexity, comprising over 700 regional languages, contrasts sharply with the monolingual bias prevalent in formal primary education. While existing literature explores bilingual classroom dynamics, it often overlooks the systemic friction between national policy and localized implementation. This systematic literature review synthesizes 59 peer-reviewed studies to map how rural and indigenous schools negotiate this pedagogical environment. The findings reveal a structural bifurcation, where remote regions utilize mother tongues for cognitive survival, whereas western regions emphasize cultural preservation. Critically, the analysis identifies widespread organizational decoupling, wherein progressive decentralization policies are undermined by centralized, monolingual assessment metrics. To address this, the study introduces the Multi-Level Ecological-Contextual Model, an evidence-based conceptual blueprint designed to synchronize macro-policy, meso-community, and micro-classroom dimensions. While this framework requires subsequent empirical validation, it provides a novel systemic roadmap for institutionalizing linguistic equity. This review contributes a rigorous mapping of policy-practice decoupling, demonstrating that mother tongue instruction is a fundamental cognitive right rather than a cultural luxury, and establishes a foundation for restructuring primary education toward additive, resource-oriented multilingual frameworks.

Abstract

Sunday school teachers occupy a foundational role in the spiritual formation of children within Christian communities. However, prevailing pedagogical frameworks remain predominantly cognitive and content-transmissive, neglecting the affective and contemplative dimensions essential to holistic spiritual formation. This article proposes "inner touch pedagogy" as a constructive theological framework for reconstructing Sunday school teacher competency. Inner touch pedagogy is defined as a theo-logically grounded disposition of interior receptivity, cultivated through contemplative practice, that enables teachers to be genuinely present to God, to self, and to learners. This narrative literature review and constructive theological reflection engage theological anthropology, contemplative spirituality, and educational philosophy to develop a reconstructed competency framework comprising four integrated dimensions: theological grounding in the imago Dei and affective anthropology; contemplative formation; affective integration; and pedagogical creativity. This reconstruction offers a theologically rooted and pedagogically viable model for contemporary Christian education ministries seeking to move beyond doctrinal transmission toward authentic spiritual formation.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of BukuAku, an interactive digital library application, in enhancing elementary school students’ reading literacy through the Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum (RWAC) approach. As digital learning tools become increasingly integral in early education, this study aimed to assess the impact of BukuAku on students’ reading comprehension using a quantitative research design. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was implemented involving 30 third-grade students over a four-month intervention period (January–April 2025). Two main instruments were employed in this study. The first instrument was the Lumina Testing Service (LTS), a Lexile-based quantitative reading assessment tool that is widely used internationally and supported by documented validity and reliability. The second was BukuAku, a digital library that provided leveled digital texts, audio narration, and quizzes to support the learning process. Reading proficiency was measured using the LTS before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis using a paired samples t-test revealed a significant increase in students’ Lexile scores, from a mean of 700.17 (SD = 26.375) in the pretest to 832.33 (SD = 39.277) in the posttest. These results demonstrate a substantial improvement in reading comprehension following the intervention. The findings support the efficacy of integrating digital literacy tools with cross-curricular reading and writing approaches to strengthen reading comprehension in early grades. This study contributes to the empirical literature on educational technology integration and highlights the value of structured, interactive literacy interventions. Future research is recommended to explore long-term impacts and broader implementation across diverse educational context.

Abstract

The design of foreign language learning curricula that are integratively capable of fostering students’ higher-order thinking skills remains limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of a multidimensional curriculum in French language instruction on the enhancement of students’ higher-order thinking skills. This research employed a quantitative approach and involved 300 senior high school students and university students. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. A quasi-experimental method was utilized to test a multidimensional curriculum model integrated with critical thinking, creative thinking, and future thinking competencies in the experimental group and to compare the results with those of the control group. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques included the independent sample t-test, effect size analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis. The results indicate that higher-order thinking skills in the experimental group improved significantly compared to those in the control group. The dimensions showing the most significant improvement were future thinking and creative thinking, followed by critical thinking. The implementation of foreign language instruction using a multidimensional curriculum can facilitate the development of students’ critical, creative, and future-oriented thinking skills within a relatively short period of time. The multidimensional curriculum model should be supported by innovative and creative instructional strategies or methods that promote higher-order thinking skills among second language learners.
