Abstract

Being capable of media literacy is an important competence in the contemporary era characterized by widespread digitalization. Teachers play a vital role in integrating learning and imparting it in schools. However, due to the absence of media literacy training, their level of media literacy remains low. It necessitates a solution involving the creation of a training program by designing its curriculum beforehand. This study attempts to design a curriculum framework for media literacy training for teachers. The participants were junior high school teachers in West Java, with a total sample size of 381 teachers who used purposive sampling techniques. A design research method has been used to produce a prototype for research purposes. Research procedure refers to the three decisions that determine the design outcome, covering procedure design, problem analysis and solution design Data collected with questionnaires given to teachers and it has been analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS software 26. Results of this study provide a curriculum framework for media literacy training for junior high school teachers in West Java, including objectives, content, methods, and assessment. Its current training curriculum framework serves as a valuable reference point for enhancing the media literacy competence of teachers.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial component of literacy that significantly impacts students’ academic development across various subjects. However, conventional teaching methods often fail to accommodate the diverse cognitive strengths of learners, leading to disengagement and limited understanding. This study introduces a digital and intelligence-based instructional model designed to enhance reading comprehension among third-grade elementary students. The model integrates visual-spatial and linguistic-verbal intelligences with interactive digital modules to promote more engaging and effective learning. Using a Design and Development research approach, the model was systematically designed, validated by experts, and implemented in five elementary schools. Eight instructional sessions were conducted to examine the practical application and effectiveness of the approach. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, classroom observations, and teacher interviews; however, the sampling techniques used were not clarified. Statistical analysis using paired and independent t-tests revealed significant improvements in students' reading comprehension in the experimental group compared to the control group. Qualitative findings also showed increased student motivation and participation during learning activities. The results suggest that a digital instructional model grounded in learners’ cognitive profiles can substantially support literacy development at the primary level. Future studies are recommended to refine sampling procedures and extend the application across broader educational contexts.

Abstract

Background of the study: Gamification is increasingly applied in education to stimulate engagement and motivation, yet empirical findings on its effectiveness remain mixed.Aims: This study aims to determine the overall effect of gamification on students’ learning motivation and to examine whether education level, sample size, and publication year moderate this effect. Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted using Scopus-indexed journal articles published between 2015–2024. Studies were included if they reported motivation outcomes with sample size, mean, and standard deviation. Effect sizes (Hedges’ g) were calculated and synthesized using a random-effects model with OpenMEE.Results: Twenty-five articles (26 outcomes) met the criteria. Gamification demonstrated a significant and very strong overall effect on learning motivation (ES = 1.061). Moderator analysis showed stronger effects at the senior high school level, while the influences of sample size and publication year were comparatively smaller. Conclusion: Gamification substantially enhances students’ learning motivation compared with non-gamified approaches. These results support the careful and contextual integration of gamified elements in teaching to optimize learner engagement and instructional quality.

Abstract

The logistics industry requires graduates who possess adaptive competencies and practical skills to respond effectively to dynamic industry demands, highlighting the importance of innovative and industry-oriented curriculum design. This study aims to analyze the implementation of a Logistics Management curriculum based on graduate competencies, with a particular focus on the application of learning strategies as a core component of the curriculum. A quantitative approach was employed using the fourth phase of Design and Development Research (DDR), which involved the experimental implementation of learning strategies in two logistics management classes following a needs analysis, competency identification, and curriculum design stages. The curriculum was developed based on five key components, competencies, learning objectives, content of materials, learning strategies, and evaluation. The results indicate that active learning approaches, including Project-based Learning (PjBL), Problem-based Learning (PBL), and Case Methods, positively support student engagement and competency development, students also reveal the need for more hands-on learning experiences, clearer instructional guidance, and stronger integration between theoretical knowledge and real-world logistics practices. This study contributes to innovation in logistics curriculum design by demonstrating how technology-enhanced active learning supported by digital learning platforms can function as enablers of industry-oriented education, strengthen university–business collaboration, and better prepare graduates for professional roles in the logistics sector.

Abstract

This study explores the analytical thinking skills of prospective Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) teacher students in understanding seasonal changes in Lampung through the ethnoscience-based RADEC learning model integrated with the local Ngumbai Sabah tradition. The aim is to bridge scientific concepts with local wisdom through both verbal and visual representations. The research employed a quantitative experimental design with a One-Pretest–Posttest design. The sample consisted of PGMI students from Class H, and the instrument was an open-ended essay test assessing students’ abilities to differentiate, organize, connect concepts, and present them visually. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, including a paired-sample t-test to evaluate the effectiveness of RADEC.Results show that the ethnoscience-based RADEC model effectively improves students’ ability to differentiate and organize concepts. However, their ability to connect concepts comprehensively remains limited, especially in visual representations. The main hindering factors are misconceptions regarding basic science concepts, particularly seasonal change phenomena, and difficulties in representing the relationships between scientific concepts and Lampung’s local wisdom. Most visual outputs remain descriptive and fragmented, highlighting the need to strengthen higher-order analytical thinking skills and visual literacy.

Abstract

The high rate of open unemployment among vocational school graduates shows that their skills don't fully match industry needs, especially in the Industry 4.0 era, which demands an adaptive, digitally literate, and vocationally skilled workforce. This condition emphasizes the importance of teacher readiness and professionalism as the key to the successful implementation of link and match so that learning is relevant to the demands of the business and industrial world (DUDI). This study aims to analyze the readiness of vocational school teachers and the need for professional development in North Sumatra by comparing teachers in urban and rural areas. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with written interviews. Participants consisted of four productive teachers from schools in Medan City and six teachers from one rural school. The interview instrument explored understanding of link and match, pedagogical readiness, digital competence, vocational skills, collaboration with DUDI, obstacles, and training needs. Data were analyzed using Elo and Kyngäs content analysis. The results showed that urban teachers were more prepared in terms of implementation due to the support of facilities, technology, and access to industry training, while rural teachers were more prepared conceptually but were hampered by limited facilities and access to industry. Both had similar needs regarding vocational training, digital technology, and industry-based programs. The findings emphasized the need for context-based professional development to strengthen the role of teachers in preparing graduates who are relevant to industry needs.
