Abstract

Blood glucose reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) varies considerably among individuals, largely due to genetic factors that influence responses to antidiabetic drug therapy. This interindividual variability affects both the effectiveness and safety of commonly prescribed oral antidiabetic agents. Therefore, understanding the genetic determinants of treatment response is essential for optimizing glycemic control in patients with T2DM. This systematic review aims to identify genetic polymorphisms associated with variations in blood glucose reduction, particularly in patients receiving metformin, sulfonylureas, and other oral antidiabetic drugs. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. A total of 880 articles were initially identified, of which 760 articles passed the preliminary screening based on title and abstract relevance. Following full-text screening using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, five studies were deemed eligible and included in the final analysis. The findings indicate that several genes play a major role in determining glycemic response to oral antidiabetic therapy, including SLC22A1 (OCT1), SLC22A2 (OCT2), SLC47A1 (MATE1), CYP2C9, KCNJ11, ABCC8, and TCF7L2. Genetic variations in these genes influence drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, thereby contributing to differences in therapeutic effectiveness and glycemic outcomes among patients.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how socio-economic conditions, food consumption patterns, intergenerational childcare practices, environmental sanitation, and access to integrated health posts (Posyandu) interact to shape stunting risk among children under five. An intrinsic case study design with a qualitative approach was employed. Thirteen informants—comprising parents, two Posyandu cadres, and the village head were purposively selected. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review, then analyzed thematically using NVivo 12. Findings reveal that unstable income, a "just full enough" consumption orientation, caregiving by grandmothers with limited nutrition literacy, inadequate sanitation,& irr egular Posyandu utilization collectively form social mechanisms that incr ease stunting risk. Word frequency analysis identified "Alhamdulillah" as a cultural coping mechanism that normalizes food insecurity. The study concludes that addressing stunting requires multi-level, family- and community-based interventions integrating food security, nutrition educa tion, sanitation improvement, and strengthened Posyandu functions.

Abstract

Epoxy resin coatings containing Bisphenol A (BPA) are widely used in canned food packaging, including sardine cans. They may pose a risk of chemical migration into food products under specific conditions. This study aimed to evaluate BPA migration into food simulants, acetic acid (1%, 3%, and 10%) and ethanol (10%, 20%, and 50%), at three temperatures (60 °C, 100 °C, and 121 °C). Migration levels were quantified using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with UV-Vis detection. Preliminary analysis of five sardine can brands revealed BPA concentrations ranging from 0.0052 to 0.0487 mg/kg. Results demonstrated a significant increase in BPA migration with both simulant concentration and temperature. In ethanol, migration increased by 437% when the concentration rose from 10% to 50% at 121 °C, while a 92% increase was observed in acetic acid from 1% to 10% under the same conditions. Temperature had a more pronounced effect: BPA migration in 20% ethanol rose by 3,714% between 60 °C and 121 °C. Migration in 3% acetic acid increased from undetectable to 0.1515 mg/kg across the same temperature range. These findings indicate that BPA migration is significantly influenced by simulant type, concentration, and temperature, underscoring the necessity for stringent control over packaging conditions to ensure food safety.

Abstract

Cooking oil is a basic ingredient in food preparation. Repeated use of cooking oil at high temperatures produces free fatty acids (FFA), which indicate oil degradation. The initial free fatty acid content of the used cooking oil in this study was 0.95%. This study aimed to prepare, activate, and evaluate avocado seed powder as a biosorbent for reducing free fatty acids in used cooking oil and to determine the optimal adsorption conditions with respect to temperature, contact time, and adsorbent mass. The activated avocado seed biosorbent showed a moisture content of 5.40%, ash content of 0.68%, iodine adsorption capacity of 768 mg/g, methylene blue adsorption capacity of 22.57 mg/g, and a surface area of 84.69 m²/g. The optimum adsorption condition was achieved at 90°C, 120 minutes contact time, and 20 g adsorbent mass. Under these conditions, the free fatty acid content decreased from 0.95% to 0.40%, corresponding to a reduction in efficiency of 58.05%. The peroxide value and water content were also reduced significantly. The adsorption capacity of avocado seed biosorbent was 27.96 mg/g for free fatty acids, 3.28 mg/g for peroxide value, and 6.16 mg/g for water content.
