Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore a hypothetical model of religious character education based on the local wisdom of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community by identifying: 1) Religious Core Values, 2) Value Internalization Methods, and 3) Dimensions of Character Education. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing ethnographic methods. The research data sources comprise both primary and secondary data, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews with key informants, such as Traditional Leaders, Elders, Kuncen, and Youth Activists. Participatory observation by observing the socio-religious life of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community, as well as documentation studies used by researchers, including community profile documents of Kuta Village, and archives of data on activities of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of the study show that: 1) the hypothetical model of religious character education is built on three main foundations of core values, namely, religious (monotheism, worship, morals), cultural (rituals, symbols, taboos), and socio-ecological (harmonious relationships between humans and others and nature). 2) Internalization and enculturation of contextual values, with the important role of families, traditional figures, religious figures, and social communities in shaping religious character. Religious values are internalized through role models, habituation, social control, and cultural narratives such as myths and ancestral wisdom. This model produces a holistic religious character that unites spiritual, moral, social, and ecological piety. Methodologically, this model confirms the effectiveness of community-based character education and local culture as an alternative paradigm for contextual and sustainable national character education. 3) The four main dimensions of religious character formation based on local wisdom are: spiritual, social, moral, and ecological.

Abstract

Life satisfaction is a critical indicator of democratic governance, reflecting citizens’ well-being and their active participation in societal development. However, prior studies often emphasize government responsibility, neglecting the role of citizen-driven initiatives—particularly in Indigenous contexts such as the Baduy community in Indonesia. This study adopts a narrative literature review method to examine the potential of school-based civic engagement in enhancing life satisfaction among the Baduy people. Relevant peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2024 were sourced from Scopus, ScienceDirect, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. The selection process involved screening, eligibility assessment, and thematic synthesis of 27 studies focused on civic engagement, life satisfaction, and Indigenous well-being. The findings suggest that civic engagement, facilitated through educational institutions, fosters community participation, social cohesion, and cultural preservation. In Indigenous contexts, such as the Baduy community—renowned for their local wisdom, ecological values, and self-reliance—civic practices aligned with traditional norms can enhance subjective well-being. Engagement models involving collaborative education, service learning, and institutional partnerships emerged as promising strategies. School-based civic engagement offers a culturally responsive and sustainable alternative to state-centric development approaches. For the Baduy, integrating civic values into education may strengthen communal identity while promoting life satisfaction. These insights underscore the need for inclusive civic education models tailored to Indigenous contexts, with implications for policymakers, educators, and future research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of integrating traditional games as a medium to strengthen the noble akhlak of senior high school students. The dimensions of noble akhlak refer to the Pancasila Student Profile, including the dimensions of religious akhlak, personal akhlak, interpersonal akhlak, environmental akhlak, and national akhlak. This study uses a mixed-method with an Explanatory Sequential Design where quantitative studies are used as a reference to deepen the process through qualitative studies. Quantitative data collection techniques used questionnaires, while qualitative data collection techniques used semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and learning document analysis. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative analysis, and the significance of pretest and posttest differences was tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Qualitative data analysis used the Miles & Huberman interactive model, which was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This study quantitatively showed an increase in the average pretest and posttest scores for all dimensions, albeit within a small range. The learning intervention provided significant, uneven changes across all akhlak dimensions. Based on the qualitative studies, the results also demonstrated effectiveness in strengthening akhlak, particularly in the dimension of akhlak toward others, as it improved the quality of interactions between students and fostered meaningful learning experiences relevant to local culture. This research requires further research, particularly on the development of more accurate instrument evaluation with more complex learning designs and systemic support for sustainable implementation.
