Abstract

The development of the digital era has created new challenges for Islamic education, particularly in developing a curriculum that integrates technological advancement with Islamic values. This article aims to analyze the implementation of Al-Maqāṣid Al-Sharī‘ah principles in Islamic education curriculum as an effort to respond to changes and educational needs in the digital era. This study employs a library research method by examining relevant literature, academic journals, and educational documents. The findings indicate that Al-Maqāṣid Al-Sharī‘ah can serve as a foundation for curriculum development by strengthening religious values, improving intellectual development, building students’ character, and encouraging responsible use of technology. The implementation of principles such as ḥifẓ al-dīn (preservation of religion) and ḥifẓ al-‘aql (preservation of intellect) plays an important role in developing students who are not only digitally competent but also possess Islamic ethics and moral values. However, its implementation still faces challenges, including negative impacts of technology and changes in students’ behavior. Therefore, an adaptive curriculum development strategy is needed to ensure that Islamic education remains relevant in facing the demands of the digital era.

Abstract

The development of education in the modern era requires a transformation of teachers' roles, no longer limited to transmitting knowledge but also serving as educators who contribute to students’ character and personality development. In the perspective of Islamic education, this role is embodied in the concept of murabbi, an educator responsible for guiding, nurturing, and developing students’ potential in a holistic manner. This study aims to analyze the redefinition of teachers’ roles in Islamic education from mere instructors to educators (murabbi) and to examine its relevance in addressing contemporary educational challenges. The study employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach through the analysis of relevant literature, including books, scholarly articles, and Islamic education journals. The findings reveal that the concept of murabbi positions teachers as role models who not only transfer knowledge but also instill moral, spiritual, and social values in students. The role of teachers as murabbi has become increasingly significant amidst technological advancements and social changes that may influence the character of younger generations. Therefore, strengthening the role of teachers as murabbi is essential to achieving the objectives of Islamic education, namely producing individuals who are knowledgeable, faithful, and possess noble character.

Abstract

The standard-based curriculum has been widely implemented to improve educational quality, accountability, and effectiveness through measurable learning outcomes. However, within the context of Islamic education, this orientation presents challenges because the primary objective of education extends beyond academic competence to include the development of faith, piety, noble character, and students' spiritual awareness. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the standard-based curriculum, examine its impact on the spiritual objectives of Islamic education, and formulate an integrative perspective for curriculum development. The research employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were collected from books, national and international journal articles, and educational policy documents, and analyzed through content analysis. The findings indicate that a standard-based curriculum contributes positively to improving instructional quality, educational planning, assessment, and institutional accountability. Nevertheless, an excessive emphasis on achieving academic standards tends to reduce attention to the internalization of spiritual values, character formation, and moral development. Therefore, Islamic education curriculum development should adopt an integrative approach that balances academic competency with spiritual formation through effective learning strategies, habituation, exemplary practices, and comprehensive assessment systems. Such an approach is expected to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also possess strong spiritual values and Islamic character.

Abstract

The increasing number of madrasah students participating in private tutoring (bimbel) is a response to the dynamics of academic competition and educational mobility, which have become increasingly competitive. This article aims to analyze various factors driving student participation through the lens of social reality construction using a literature review method. The results of the study indicate that students' decisions are influenced by a complex interaction between social and academic factors. Socially, participation is triggered by parental expectations that view private tutoring as a future investment, peer pressure that establishes "normal" effort standards, and the desire to achieve success symbols through public university entrance exams. Academically, the curricular gap between religious and general subjects, limited instructional time at madrasahs, and the advantages of practical methods and structured learning offered by tutoring institutions are primary drivers for students to seek enrichment outside of school. Thus, private tutoring functions as a strategic means to cope with social and academic pressures while simultaneously serving as an instrument to enhance the readiness of madrasah students for evaluations and further education.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a framework of Tazkiyah-Based Digital Resilience through a hermeneutical synthesis of the educational thoughts of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah in response to the moral and psychological crises faced by students in the digital era. Using a qualitative library research design grounded in Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics, this research applies the concept of fusion of horizons to integrate classical Islamic texts with contemporary digital challenges such as doomscrolling, algorithmic addiction, and ethical disorientation on social media. The findings reveal that Al-Ghazali provides an epistemological foundation by positioning the qalb (heart) as the center of moral consciousness and knowledge discernment, while Ibn Qayyim contributes a transformative methodological framework through the stages of maqāmāt and practices of mujāhadah. The synthesis of both perspectives results in an applicative pedagogical model in which mujāhadah is reinterpreted as digital self-discipline, muraqabah as digital integrity, and muhāsabah as reflective information auditing. This framework offers a conceptual contribution to Islamic Religious Education by shifting moral education from external regulation toward internalized spiritual resilience, enabling students to navigate digital environments with ethical awareness, self-control, and spiritual maturity.

Abstract

Character education has become a major concern in contemporary education due to increasing challenges related to moral degradation, social intolerance, and the weakening of ethical responsibility among young people. Although numerous studies have examined the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in character development, existing discussions remain fragmented and often focus on isolated dimensions of spirituality, morality, worship, or social behaviour. This study aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of how Islamic educational values collectively contribute to character formation. Employing a qualitative literature review approach, the study analysed classical Islamic scholarship, contemporary educational theories, and empirical studies published in national and international academic sources. Data were examined through thematic analysis and conceptual synthesis to identify recurring themes and patterns across the literature. The findings reveal three major dimensions underlying character formation in Islamic education: the spiritual-ethical foundation of character, the internalisation of values through worship and educational practices, and the manifestation of character through social responsibility. The analysis further demonstrates that tauhid, akhlaq, worship, and social responsibility function as interconnected and mutually reinforcing dimensions rather than separate educational components. Based on these findings, the study proposes an integrative conceptual framework that positions Islamic religious education as a holistic system of character formation. This framework contributes to the theoretical development of Islamic education and provides a foundation for future research, curriculum design, and character education policy in contemporary educational contexts

Abstract

This paper explores the paradoxical relationship between melancholy and creativity within the framework of Heideggerian philosophy. Building upon the notion that melancholy is not merely a psychological state but a fundamental mode of being, it argues that this condition, characterized by an awareness of human finitude and the limitations of existence, serves as a crucial catalyst for creative activity. Following Heidegger, the paper posits that true freedom, the cornerstone of creative expression, is inextricably linked to a sense of burden and responsibility, giving rise to a melancholic mood. This melancholic contemplation, while seemingly negative, provides the fertile ground for artistic and intellectual innovation. The paper analyzes how this interplay between melancholic awareness and the creative impulse manifests in various forms of human expression, from artistic creation to philosophical inquiry. By examining the act of creation as a confrontation with "nothingness" and a struggle to find meaning in the face of mortality, the paper demonstrates how melancholy, rather than hindering creativity, serves as its essential precondition.

Abstract

This study addresses the 20th-century educational dualism crisis in colonial Indonesia, a pathology split between stagnant religious traditionalism and alienated secular modernity. This article aims to demonstrate that K.H. Ahmad Dahlan's educational philosophy was the valid and coherent epistemological answer to this crisis. Using a qualitative library method and a dialectical-analytical framework, this research diagnoses the pathologies of both poles. The results show that Dahlan’s synthesis—grounded in Tawhid (Divine Unity) as an epistemological unifier and Al-Ma'un praxis as its axiology—is not a mere compromise but a re-foundation. This is proven by demonstrating the fundamental categorical errors within both the traditionalist objection and the modernist-secular objection. The study concludes that this dualism is a the schism of knowledge and that Dahlan's synthesis remains a critical therapeutic model for contemporary education.

Abstract
