Abstract

Asperger syndrome (AS) or little professor syndrome was described since over 50 years ago. It is characterized by social interaction impairments, narrow and restrictive or repetitive interests, repetitive routines, nonverbal communication problems, motor clumsiness, speech and language peculiarities with a lack of significant delays in language acquisition and with normal intelligence. It is clinically differentiated from autism and high-functioning autism by the absence of clinically delayed speech. This review discusses about synonyms, history, definition, epidemiology, etiology, clinical portraits, characteristics and pathognomonics, diagnostics, comorbidities, differential diagnosis, additional assessments, management, and prevention of AS.

Abstract

Bipolar disorder (BD), also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder causing unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks, caused by multifactorial and enigmatic etiologies. The main objective of this overview is to review recent findings and critically evaluate BD based on neurogenomics and pharmacogenomics perspectives, through searching appropriate online database sources and relevant bibliographies. Recent studies and references explain genome-wide significant loci for bipolar disorder (polygenetics), potential biomarkers (apoptosis and neurotrophic factors, immuno-inflammatory factors, neurotrophins, BDNF, IGF-1, VEGF, etc.), dysregulation  of immuno-inflammatory mechanisms, the role of neuroplasticity in the pathophysiology and treatment of BD, genetic effect of lithium response in BD. Stem cells, omics technologies, and optogenetics is considered to be effective strategies to overcome BD.

Abstract

Mental health disorders among adolescents in West Java have become a growing concern, impacting their well-being and future prospects. This study aimed to investigate the genetic factors contributing to these disorders, utilizing genomic analysis and qualitative exploration of lived experiences. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including quantitative surveys, genomic analysis, and qualitative interviews. The study comprised a diverse sample of adolescents from various socio-economic backgrounds and age groups in West Java. The quantitative analysis revealed a significant prevalence of mental health disorders, with approximately 35% reporting symptoms of depression and 55% meeting criteria for generalized anxiety disorder. Genomic analysis identified specific genetic markers associated with these disorders, emphasizing their genetic underpinnings. Qualitative data underscored the impact of stigma, coping mechanisms, family support, and cultural factors on adolescents' mental well-being. The findings of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of mental health in adolescents in West Java, integrating genetic and socio-cultural perspectives. The prevalence rates highlight the urgency of addressing mental health issues in this population. Genetic insights suggest opportunities for personalized interventions, while qualitative findings emphasize the importance of reducing stigma and enhancing community-based support. These findings contribute to the development of targeted interventions and policies aimed at improving the mental health of adolescents in West Java.

Abstract

This study explores the complex interplay of respiratory health, air quality, and demographic traits in the Tangerang locality. Moderate pollution levels were found through continuous monitoring of air quality measures, such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone (O3). A 12% rise in hospital admissions for respiratory illnesses and a prevalence of symptoms were found in respiratory health assessments, which included surveys and health records. Analyses of correlation and regression highlighted the importance of O3, PM2.5, and NO2 in affecting respiratory health outcomes. The insights pertaining to demographics revealed differences in vulnerability among various age groups, genders, and occupational categories. The results inform suggestions for focused interventions, continuous surveillance, public education initiatives, and subcategory evaluations to tackle the complex issues brought about by air pollution in Tangerang.
