Abstract

Diabetes mellitus or what people generally call diabetes is a chronic disease that can be suffered throughout life. Diabetes has 2 types, namely type 1 diabetes mellitus which is the result of an autoimmune reaction to pancreatic islet cell proteins, then type 2 diabetes which is caused by a combination of genetic factors related to impaired insulin secretion, insulin resistance and environmental factors such as obesity, overeating, undereating, exercise and stress, and aging. The purpose of this Thematic KKN activity is to increase public knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus through activities of community service based on health education for participants who experience Diabetes Mellitus. The methods used include Counseling about Diabetes Mellitus using leaflet media, TTV and Blood Sugar Examination, Demonstration of making herbal medicine to lower blood sugar levels, namely cinnamon decoction and Educating for periodic health checks at health centers. The results of the activity showed that out of 57 people studied, 7 out of 19 people with diabetes mellitus were male and 13 out of 38 people with diabetes mellitus were female. This means that more women experience DM in RT 002/RW 002, Jayaloka sub-district, Empat Lawang district in 2025. The results obtained are that counseling has been carried out well, the community already knows what diabetes mellitus is, but ongoing education is needed by the health center so that the community always remembers what diabetes is along with its signs and symptoms. Follow-up plan Hold counseling/education every month at every integrated health post. It is expected that the local government, especially the head of RT.002/RW 002, to invite the community to participate in health check-ups and adolescent/elderly integrated health posts carried out by the health center and the Tebing Tinggi health center to be more active in providing education to the community through health cadres about non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

DM is the mother of all diseases. DM disease can spread everywhere. DM complications can arise from head to toe, ranging from heart disease and stroke and miserable kidney failure (Tandra, 2020). Poor blood sugar control affects the incidence of complications in DM. Factors that affect blood sugar levels in type 2 DM patients are divided into internal factors and external factors. External factors are age, gender, intake (carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fiber), physical activity, medication compliance, duration of DM, knowledge of DM and family support (Hayashino et al., 2017). The method used in this literature is a literature review. The method in this study uses sequential steps, namely: first, identification is carried out in advance that is appropriate for the research question, second, protocol development is carried out in the study, third, the location in the research database is determined as a search area, fourth, selecting relevant research results, fifth, sorting quality research results, sixth, extracting data from individual research, seventh, artificial results are carried out, eighth, presenting the results. Searching for articles is done through the use of online research journal databases. The results of the literature study indicate that the factors causing stress in people with diabetes mellitus consist of several causes such as age, duration of treatment, implementation of a strict diet, duration of healing when wounds, fear of complications. Other factors that also cause stress in people with diabetes mellitus are not being able to control themselves in dealing with problems in everyday life such as work, social environment and pressure in the family.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease that has recently become more common. We also often refer to diabetes mellitus as diabetes or blood sugar disease. This disease is a type of chronic disease whose initial sign is an increase in blood sugar levels as a result of a disturbance in the body's metabolic system. The body organ that is disturbed is the pancreas, which no longer functions as it should. The pancreas is no longer able to produce the hormone insulin to meet the body's needs. One of the factors that influence diabetes mellitus is a lack of knowledge. Public knowledge about diabetes mellitus is very much needed as a foundation for society in demonstrating diabetes mellitus prevention behavior. Knowledge is very important for the formation of behavior (Donsu, 2017). Knowledge is also related to the level of education. The higher a person's level of education, the more information they will have, which will influence a person's behavior (Notoatmodjo, 2002). One alternative for dealing with diabetes mellitus is to do diabetes mellitus exercises. Objective: At the end of the counseling process, all elderly and pre-elderly people in Sinar Pagi Village will be able to understand and understand Diabetes Mellitus and participate in doing diabetes mellitus exercises. Method: The method used in providing education about diabetes mellitus is lectures and questions and answers as well as distributing leaflets. Then the diabetes mellitus exercise method used is direct practice of diabetes mellitus exercises. Results and Discussion: In this outreach activity, the elderly experienced an increase in knowledge from the pre-test with an average of 65 and post-test with an average of 80, with a difference of 15. The final results of this diabetes mellitus exercise activity made the cadres agree to Do diabetes mellitus exercises for the elderly at least 1-2 times every month.

The organ that is disturbed is the pancreas, which no longer functions as it should. The pancreas is no longer able to produce the hormone insulin to meet the body's needs. Good management of diabetes mellitus requires 4 main pillars, namely education, meal planning, physical exercise and pharmacological intervention. One of the recommendations for managing diabetes mellitus is to use physical exercise. One exercise that can be done by diabetes mellitus sufferers is diabetes mellitus exercise. Diabetes melltus exercises are carried out using rhythmic movements 3 times a week for 1 month with an exercise duration of 30-60 minutes Exercise or physical exercise is an initial effort to prevent, control and overcome diabetes. Physical exercise can directly cause increased use of glucose by active muscles, and more open capillary beds so that more insulin receptors are available to become more active, which will have an effect on reducing blood glucose in diabetes mellitus patients. One exercise that diabetes sufferers can do is diabetes gymnastics. Physical exercise can directly cause an increase in glucose usage so that more insulin receptors are available and become more active, which will have an effect on reducing blood glucose in DM patients, resulting in changes in blood sugar levels. Physical exercise in type 2 DM plays a major role in regulating blood sugar levels. Exercise can reduce anxiety about the disease, create a feeling of joy and more self-confidence and ultimately improve the quality of life even though he suffers from a chronic illness. Diabetes exercises are often done because these exercises can work all the organs of the human body, from the brain to the toes. Because the impact of diabetes attacks the entire body. The lightest impact is tingling in the feet. Meanwhile, the worst thing is suffering a stroke. The varied movements make the brain work to memorize them. Getting the brain used to working can improve memory and strengthen concentration. This is a therapy for mild strokes and prevents dementia. The importance of controlling blood sugar levels for diabetes sufferers is to avoid complications that can cause death.
