Abstract

The purpose of this journal article is to define the role of human resources within the context of an organization. The article employs a literature research method. Based on the analysis, it can be inferred that human resource management encompasses three key functions: administrative, operational, and the attainment of overall organizational objectives. These functions encompass activities such as recruitment, human resource development, compensation, occupational health and safety management, as well as industrial relations and labor market management. The primary goal of human resource management is to enhance the contribution of human resources (employees) to the organization. It is evident that the success of an organization in achieving its objectives heavily relies on effective management of its personnel. Therefore, it is crucial to employ sound personnel management practices to ensure that the organization accomplishes its predetermined goals. Human resource managers, along with line managers and subcontractors, play vital roles in the pursuit of human resource management objectives.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores employee perceptions of company welfare programs within Indonesia's financial sector, focusing on a private banking institution. Through in-depth interviews with 15 employees across various divisions, the research reveals that while health benefits and work flexibility are highly valued, significant disparities exist between policy design and practical implementation. Key challenges include bureaucratic access barriers, generational differences in benefit preferences, and inconsistent awareness of available programs. The findings emphasize that organizational culture, management support, and effective communication are pivotal in shaping employee experiences of welfare initiatives. The study contributes to human resource management literature by highlighting the need for more adaptive, employee-centric welfare strategies that address both structural and cultural dimensions of implementation. Practical implications suggest organizations must enhance program accessibility, tailor benefits to diverse workforce needs, and strengthen internal communication to maximize welfare program effectiveness.

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores the lived experience of work wellbeing among millennial employees within Jakarta’s dynamic technology startup ecosystem. Through in-depth interviews with ten participants across diverse roles and startup stages, the research reveals that well-being transcends traditional financial metrics, emerging instead as contextualized resonance, a state of thriving within the environment’s inherent chaos, speed, and uncertainty. Four interconnected dimensions define this resonance: (1) Meaningful Contribution (alignment with personal values and tangible impact), (2) Autonomy and Flexibility (trust in self-management, albeit challenged by blurred boundaries), (3) Authentic Interpersonal Relationships (psychological safety and communal support as buffers against stress), and (4) Space for Growth (continuous learning and non-linear development pathways). The findings underscore that millennials derive profound satisfaction from co-creating innovation but require deliberate organizational support to mitigate burnout risks. This study advocates for human-centered HR strategies transforming Jakarta’s startup dynamism from a wellbeing challenge into a catalyst for resilience, retention, and holistic fulfillment.

Abstract

This phenomenological study examines the lived experiences of talent retention strategies within Makassar's local government institutions, exploring how cultural values, organizational climate, and leadership styles influence employee commitment in the Indonesian public sector context. Through in-depth interviews with 15 participants comprising HR managers and employees across various government departments, the research investigates the subjective meanings and experiences that shape talent retention decisions. Using Colaizzi's seven-step phenomenological analysis framework, the study identified five essential themes: Cultural Harmony and Collective Belonging, Leadership Authenticity and Emotional Connection, Professional Growth Within Bureaucratic Constraints, Work-Life Integration and Family Values, and Service Purpose and Community Impact. The findings reveal that talent retention in Makassar's local government is fundamentally shaped by the integration of traditional Bugis-Makassar cultural principles—sipakatau (mutual respect), sipakalebbi (mutual honoring), and sipakainge (mutual remembrance)—with contemporary organizational practices. Participants emphasized the significance of authentic leadership characterized by "kepedulian yang tulus" (genuine care) and meaningful work that contributes directly to community development. The study demonstrates that effective retention strategies must acknowledge employees as whole persons whose professional commitments are inseparable from their cultural identity, family relationships, and community connections. These findings challenge Western-centric talent management models by revealing how culturally-embedded values serve as more powerful retention mechanisms than purely economic incentives. The research contributes to developing culturally-responsive talent management frameworks for Indonesian local governments, emphasizing the need for relationship-centered, purpose-driven approaches that honor local wisdom while addressing contemporary human resource challenges in public sector organizations.

Abstract

While start-ups are often celebrated as agile and egalitarian spaces that disrupt traditional hierarchies, women leaders within them continue to navigate gendered expectations, institutional ambiguities, and cultural constraints—particularly in emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems of the Global South. Drawing on in-depth phenomenological interviews with 10–12 women leading start-up teams across technology, creative, and service sectors in Makassar, Indonesia, this study explores how these leaders construct, enact, and sustain leadership amidst intersecting global norms and local socio-cultural logics. Findings reveal that participants engage in continuous relational labor to assert legitimacy, craft hybrid leadership models that blend strategic agency with communal care, and reinterpret domestic roles as both resources and constraints. Rather than conforming to dominant masculine entrepreneurial archetypes, they mobilize narrative, empathy, and ethical stewardship to build team cohesion and organizational identity. This research contributes to transnational feminist scholarship by centering the lived experience of women in Southeast Asian start-ups, challenging universalist assumptions in entrepreneurship theory, and highlighting the need for culturally grounded, gender-responsive support ecosystems.
Culturally Rooted MSME Strategies: Integrating Local Wisdom into Cultural Tourism Development in Sulawesi Dipoatmodjo, Tenri Sayu Puspitaningsih

Abstract

This study investigates how local wisdom can be systematically integrated into the strategic development of cultural tourism MSMEs across Sulawesi’s diverse ethnic landscapes. Drawing on a qualitative multi-site case study approach, the research examines how cultural values—such as sipakatau, ma’bulo sibatang, and siri’ na pacce—shape entrepreneurial practices, organizational resilience, and community-oriented business models. Data collected through interviews, participant observation, focus groups, and document analysis reveal three primary integration pathways: symbolic reinforcement in branding and storytelling, operational cooperativeization rooted in kinship-based production systems, and strategic alliances with cultural councils and NGOs that institutionalize cultural integrity. The findings highlight both the strategic benefits and persistent barriers—including digital capability gaps, rigid funding schemes, and bureaucratic certification processes. The study argues that meaningful integration of local wisdom requires community-led governance, culturally sensitive institutional support, and participatory mechanisms that prevent cultural commodification from becoming extractive. By reframing entrepreneurship as a relational and ethical activity, the research offers actionable strategies such as culturally grounded digital incubators, micro-grant schemes tied to stewardship criteria, and regional MSME cooperation networks. Overall, the study positions cultural authenticity not as a constraint but as a competitive and ethical foundation for sustainable cultural tourism in Sulawesi.
