Abstract

This research addresses the growing tendency of contemporary education to prioritize cognitive achievement while marginalizing character formation and spiritual development, resulting in an imbalanced educational paradigm that affects the holistic growth of learners in various educational contexts. In response, the research critically examines the concept and principles of Christian education as articulated by Ignatius Loyola, particularly in relation to contemporary educational challenges and the need for meaningful transformation in learning processes today. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, drawing on relevant academic sources such as books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and theological writings to support systematic and critical analysis. The findings indicate that Ignatian educational thought emphasizes holistic human formation through the integration of intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions, grounded in the principles of Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, Cura Personalis, and Find God in All Things, which together foster reflective, value-oriented learning. The study contributes to contemporary educational discourse by offering an alternative framework that promotes holistic development, strengthens character formation, and addresses the limitations of cognitively oriented educational models in diverse educational practices.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of understanding the development of the Kingdom of God in Indonesia as a reality present in the lives of the people through the values of love, justice, and peace in a pluralistic society. The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that support and hinder the development of the Kingdom of God in Indonesia and explain its application in contemporary life. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review and theological analysis of the social, cultural, and religious dynamics that are developing in Indonesian society. The results of the study indicate that the development of the Kingdom of God is supported by the role of the church in evangelistic missions, holistic services, universal values of love and justice, and a spirit of religious moderation. On the other hand, this development is hampered by local cultural resistance, socio-political dynamics, a lack of comprehensive theological understanding, and the potential for conflict in poorly managed plurality. The implications of this research emphasize that the Kingdom of God needs to be lived as a contemporary reality through personal and social transformation, obedience to God's will, and the realization of identity as citizens of the Kingdom of God in everyday life.

Abstract

Christology is a branch of Christian theology that discusses the person and work of Jesus Christ as the core of the Christian faith. The development of the modern era, characterized by globalization, pluralism, technological advancement, and cultural diversity, presents new challenges in understanding Christ in a relevant and contextual manner. This research aims to examine the development of Christological reflection in various life contexts and explain its application in contemporary life. The research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method thru the examination of various classical and modern theological literature from both Protestant and Catholic traditions. The analysis was conducted using a historical-critical approach to understand the development of Christological thot from the early church period to the modern era. The research results show that Christology is not only doctrinal but also has practical dimensions related to personal, social, cultural, interfaith dialog, ecological, and modern challenges. Christological reflection affirms that Jesus Christ is understood as the true God and true man, serving as the foundation of spirituality, ethics, and social action for Christians. Furthermore, the contextual Christological approach helps the church present Christ's teachings relevantly in a pluralistic and dynamic society. This research implies the importance of developing contextual, inclusive, and transformative theology so that the Christian faith remains meaningful in modern life.

Abstract

Christian Education is not only a medium for conveying religious knowledge but also a transformative process that shapes how students think, perceive life, and respond to God’s will. A recurring challenge is the gap between classroom teaching and students’ lived experiences, compounded by the erosion of teacher-student relationships. Recent incidents in Indonesia, including a teacher being reported to the police for advising students and students publicly humiliating a teacher, highlight a crisis in the moral and relational foundations of education. This study examines theological reflection through the pastoral circle as an approach to addressing this crisis by connecting faith with concrete life experiences. Using a qualitative literature study based on journals, theological books, and relevant news sources, the research finds that the stages of the pastoral circle—see, judge, act, and celebrate—provide a framework for interpreting experience through Scripture and guiding teachers in handling relational dilemmas with pastoral wisdom. This approach is important for restoring educational dignity and strengthening teacher-student relationships in the digital era.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding theology not merely as a theoretical concept, but as a reflection of faith that is lived within the cultural context of society. In the context of the Dayak community in Central Kalimantan, there is a close relationship between cultural values and spiritual life, thus requiring a theological approach that can bridge the two. This study aims to analyze the praxis model in contextual theology and its application in the life of the Dayak community. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through literature study by examining various relevant sources. The results show that the praxis model emphasizes the relationship between lived experience, faith reflection, and concrete action. Cultural values such as togetherness and mutual cooperation are in line with Christian teachings; however, there are also traditional practices that create tension with faith. The church plays an important role in addressing this through a dialogical and reflective approach. The implications of this study indicate that the application of the praxis model enables believers to live out their faith in a contextual, relevant, and transformative way in daily life without losing their cultural identity.Top of Form

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of Robert Raikes' Christian educational thinking to the character formation of children in contemporary Sunday School services. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were obtained from various literature sources such as books, scientific journals, and research articles related to Christian education, character education, and the history of Sunday School development. Data analysis techniques were carried out through the stages of data reduction, grouping themes, interpretation, and drawing conclusions using descriptive qualitative methods. The results show that Robert Raikes' thoughts remain relevant in modern Christian education, especially in the formation of children's character through the teaching of God's Word, discipline, role models, and the instilling of Christian values. Sunday School plays an important role as a means of fostering faith, morality, and social responsibility in children from an early age. In addition, the challenges of the digital era require churches to develop more creative, interactive, and contextual learning methods without abandoning the basic values of the Christian faith. This study confirms that the success of children's character formation depends not only on the church, but also on the role of Sunday School teachers and families who work together to build a conducive spiritual environment. Thus, Robert Raikes' thinking makes an important contribution to the development of Christian education that is relevant in the modern era.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the process of implementing the manugal tradition among the Dayak Ngaju community, identify the values contained within it, and analyze its relevance in Christian life thru a contextual theology approach of the counter-cultural model. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach thru the collection of data from journals, books, and relevant scientific sources. The research results show that manugal is a rice planting tradition of the Dayak Ngaju community, carried out in stages, starting from meneweng, manyeha, mangakal, to the seed planting process using tugal communally (handep hapakat). This tradition not only serves as an agricultural activity but also embodies values of social solidarity, togetherness, care, responsibility, and dependence on God, which are manifested thru communal prayers before the implementation of manugal. In the perspective of Christian life, these values are relevant to the teachings of love, friendship, humility, mutual assistance, and the concept of the body of Christ living in harmonious relationships with others. In addition to having positive values such as character formation, strengthening social solidarity, and community spirituality, the manugal culture also has negative values, such as land burning practices that have the potential to harm the environment and the habit of consuming alcoholic beverages that need to be critically reviewed based on Christian faith values. Therefore, the manugal culture can be understood as a countercultural model to modern individualistic culture because it emphasizes values of togetherness, mutual assistance, and social concern, which still need to be theologically reflected upon to align with Christian teachings.

Abstract

This research examines the process of inculturating the Christian faith thru the use of traditional Dayak Katingan music in church life at the Evangelical Church of Kalimantan (GKE) using the Anthropological Model of Contextual Theology perspective. The research is motivated by the church's need to present expressions of faith that are relevant to the local cultural context without diminishing the essence of Christian teachings. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were obtained thru observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving pastors, music ministers, church council members, and congregation members in the Katingan region. The research results show that the use of traditional musical instruments such as japen, suling balawung, and katambung is a form of inculturation that preserves local cultural elements while simultaneously transforming their meaning and function based on Gospel values. In this process, cultural elements that do not contradict Christian teachings are retained and reinterpreted as means of praise, worship, faith expression, and strengthening the congregation's identity. The research findings affirm that the Anthropological Model Contextual Theology enables a constructive dialog between the Gospel and culture, so that traditional music not only serves as a medium for expressing Christian faith but also as a means of preserving Dayak Katingan culture. Thus, the inculturation of traditional music in GKE Katingan contributes to the strengthening of local cultural identity and the deepening of the congregation's spirituality.
