Abstract

A stoma can increase life expectancy and support health recovery but brings several physical and psychosocial issues. Psychosocial resilience is critical in dealing with these changes. This study aims to provide new insights into the interaction between self-management and psychosocial resilience in colorectal cancer stoma patients. This research employs a qualitative design with a case study approach. The study involves colorectal cancer patients with completed primary cancer-related therapies, totaling eight individuals. The informants also include family members of the patients (eight individuals) and volunteer nurses within the community (three individuals). The research instrument is an interview guide structured around five themes. Data analysis follows qualitative stages, encompassing reduction, presentation, and conclusion. Triangulation techniques are utilized to ensure the validity of the findings. The findings suggest that collaboration between family, community, and nurses can provide comprehensive support. However, a structured and focused self-management intervention model is needed to improve psychosocial consistency and resilience. Three models were proposed, namely Family Therapy, Online Community Support, and Nurse Integration in Self-Management, hoping to provide more specific guidance and support for patients. This study provides a basis for developing more varied intervention models and a comprehensive understanding of self-management of colorectal cancer stoma patients.

Abstract

Background and purpose: The use of long-acting and permanent methods (LAPMs) of contraception becomes one of the government’s efforts to ensure the continuity of family planning program. Factors associated with the LAPMs use can be contingent upon the study context or setting that includes socio-demographic, social and cultural norms, and women empowerment factors. This study aims to examine the associations between women empowerment and the LAPMs use. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 97,316 records of married women aged 15-49 years, retrieved from three rounds of the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey/IDHS (2007, 2012, and 2017). The dependent variable is the LAPMs use, whereas the main independent variables were women empowerment factors (i.e., educational level, occupational status, participation in household decision-making, attitude toward wife-beating). Adjusted associations between women empowerment and the LAMPs use were examined using binary logistic regression by controlling the influence of sociodemographic variables as potential confounders. Results: About half of women in this study were 35-49 years old and completed primary education. Education level was found to be positively associated with the use of LAPMs. Working women increased the likelihood of using LAPMs by 1.10 (95%CI: 1.03-1.17) times. In addition, those who approved for being beaten by their husband in any circumstance were less likely to use LAPMs (OR=0.91; 95%CI: 0.86-0.97). However, participation in household decision-making was not associated with the LAMPs use. Conclusion: Women empowerment factors that included educational level, occupational status, and the attitude toward wife-beating were associated with the use of LAPMs among Indonesian married women. Therefore, improving women empowerment by increasing women’s educational level, participation in labor force, and reducing women’s vulnerability to domestic violence can increase the uptake of LAPMs.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting global health issues. The interaction between Covid-19 patients and Tuberculosis makes it the number one cause of death worldwide. Numerous deaths caused by Covid-19 are reported every day in Indonesia, leading to a reduced number of TB patients who require routine treatment to health services in the community. Therefore, this review aimed to identify challenges in treatment services for TB patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study design used was a systematic review to identify the challenges in treatment services for TB patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. The challenges are a low-capacity health system, lack of knowledge about health, less-optimum treatment for TB patients due to social restrictions, limited regular visits to health services, and low TB case detection. To prevent negative impacts in reduced treatment for TB patients, telemedicine can be used, proper knowledge can be provided through social media, and consistent policies can be implemented to strengthen the weakening health system.

Abstract

Abstract

Pregnant women in Indonesia, particularly in the Southwest Sumba Regency are faced with high malaria incidence. To overcome the challenge, midwives play a crucial role in integrating malaria services into maternal and child health (MCH) program. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the role of midwives in the implementation of integrated MCH services in the Southwest Sumba district. The location and participants were carefully selected and data collection was performed using the semi-structured interview method, which was divided into three sections. These included i) understanding of midwives regarding malaria and dangers to pregnant women, ii) the implementation of integrated malaria services for the MCH program, and iii) the role of midwives. The collected data were thematically analyzed and narratively presented based on the themes. The results showed that midwives in North Kodi District had a limited understanding of malaria. Consequently, the implementation of integrated MCH services, including specialized preventive education for pregnant women, was not at the optimal level. This phenomenon showed the need for malaria education, preparation of service standards, facilitative supervision, and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Abstract

Background: In 2018, measles remained a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with over 9.7 million cases and more than 140,000 deaths associated with this disease. Additionally, rubella also has long-term health consequences, with an estimated 103,000 infants born with Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS). In 2022, there was a significant increase in the number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases, totaling 4,845 cases, with six resulting in death (CFR 0.1%). Some of the provinces most affected were Aceh, West Sumatra, and East Java. In 2022, the city of Pariaman was declared a state of emergency (KLB) for measles.Aims: To analyze the link between immunization status and measles/rubella incidents during the KLB event in Pariaman City in 2022.Method: Quantitative research with a case-control design. In this study, the researchers used secondary data contained in the annual report of Pariaman City Health Service for 2022. The researchers employed a parametric test with Chi-Square statistical test using the IBM SPSS computer program to determine the interaction between the two variables. Results: The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between a history of immunization and the occurrence of measles/rubella in Pariaman City. P = 0.032 (p < 0.05). An OR value of 3.25 (95% CI = 1.209 – 8.733) indicated that a history of non-immunization had a 3.25 times greater risk of exposure to measles/rubella than a history of immunization. Conclusion: Immunization history affects the outbreak in Pariaman City in 2022.
