Abstract

Abstract

Background. Media exposure is a very influential factor in the initiation of adolescents to smoke. Therefore, media literacy (smoking media literacy [SML]) was developed as a school-based tobacco control strategy. Objective. The purpose of this research was to examine the relation of SML with the smoking status of high school students in Purwakarta Regency Method. This research used quantitative research with a cross-sectional design conducted in April-May 2018 in Purwakarta Regency. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires from 310 students of public senior high school. Data were analyzed using logistic regression test. Statistical adjustments were made for gender, parental education, parenting, smoking status of parents, siblings, and peers, school performance, depression, self-esteem, rebellion, and sensation seeking character. Results. There were 14.2% smokers among respondents. The mean of SML score was 68.94 (on a scale of 100). The result of logistic regression showed that there was a significant correlation between SML and smoking status with adjustment by sex, the sibling who smokes, peers who smoke, school achievement, and rebelliousness (p-value=0.048; CI=1.008-7.085). Conclusions. High school students' understanding of media literacy was still low, and SML was related to students' smoking status.

Abstract

Background. Online learning is a solution so that academic activities can continue. However, this system causes stress for students. In addition to factors related to the lecture process, there are also problems from daily life that cause stress, especially for Extension students who are already working and have a household. This adds to the burden of carrying out daily life and side by side in maximizing their duties as a student. Aim. This study aims to determine the factors associated with student stress levels during the COVID-19 pandemic among FKM UI Extension Program students. Method. This reserach is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study. The sample in this study was 176 extension students for the 2019-2021 class. The criteria for inclusion were students with active academic status and exclusion of students who were not willing to be respondents. The primary data used was obtained from a questionnaire given to respondents. Using univariate and bivariate data analysis. Result. The results showed that 5.7% of respondents experienced severe stress. From the bivariate analysis, two factors related to stress levels were obtained, namely class schedules (p-value 0.005) and learning methods (p-value 0.01). Based on the factors that cause distress, it can be concluded that most students often experience stress due to the large number of lecture assignments. This research is expected to become basic data for preventing and controlling stress in college students.

Abstract

Current research suggests a possible connection between social capital and its effect on self-reported health. However, this relationship has not been extensively studied in urban and rural regions of Indonesia. This research aimed to evaluate the differences in sociodemographic factors, social capital, and self-rated health between rural and urban populations and to identify sociodemographic and social capital elements related to self-rated health in the urban and rural areas of Sumatra Utara Province, Indonesia. This study makes use of secondary data from the Happiness Level Measurement Survey Report 2021. A two-stage, one-phase sampling method was employed for sample selection. The Chi-square test was utilized to examine the distribution of factors related to respondents in both urban and rural settings. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was conducted to determine associations with self-rated health. Our findings indicate that rural inhabitants exhibit a higher rate of poor self-rated health compared to their urban counterparts (p-value<0.001). Significant differences were observed between urban and rural areas in terms of sex, education, trust, social participation, and feelings of safety. The multivariable Cox regression analysis revealed that being younger, having higher education, possessing greater trust, and engaging in high social participation was associated with a lower risk of poor self-rated health for both urban and rural residents. Consequently, trust and social participation could reduce the occurrence of poor self-rated health.

Abstract

The implementation of hypertension guidelines is crucial for controlling hypertension and reducing its complications. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the 2024 hypertension guidelines at Puskesmas X in terms of the percentage of controlled, uncontrolled, and Missed Visits in hypertensive patients. Data were collected from the hypertension control program records at Puskesmas X, obtained through the community health center's information system, for four months before and four months after the new guidelines were implemented. This study employed a retrospective quantitative design with a comparative approach, using an independent t-test to determine statistical significance. The statistical results showed a significant increase in the percentage of controlled hypertension after the implementation of the guidelines (p < 0.05), while uncontrolled hypertension and Missed Visits did not show significant changes. These findings provide an initial evaluation of the effectiveness of the new guidelines in improving hypertension control and highlight the need for additional interventions to improve patient adherence to follow-up visits.

Abstract

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) have a broad range of clinical indications and are recommended by various guidelines for the management of diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. However, prescribing rates for these agents are suboptimal towards various intended indications in many countries, including Indonesia. The aim of this study was to analyze the prescribing practices of SGLT2is among endocrinologists, cardiologists, and nephrologists in Indonesia. A qualitative method was utilized to provide a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon. Semi-structured online interviews were performed with 18 participants, comprising seven specialized doctors as primary informants; eight key informants representing pharmacies, governmental bodies, and pharmaceutical marketing representatives; and three patients as supplementary informants. Furthermore, closed observations of two specialist doctors were undertaken as an additional data collection method. Informants were recruited using criterion and snowball sampling methods. The Theoretical Domains Framework was used as an interview guide; all interviews were audio visual-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and subsequently analyzed for thematic content with NVivo version 12. Seven themes emerged concerning the prescribing behavior of SGLT2is: socioeconomic status, therapeutic rationality, utilization barriers, utilization optimization, the urge to prescribe, therapeutic expectations and targets, and aspects of the health system and ethical considerations. Most informants possessed favorable perspectives regarding using SGLT2is when prescribed appropriately, yet specific elements necessitate enhancement to refine therapeutic justification, including initiatives to incorporate SGLT2is into the national formulary.
