Abstract

This research aims to better understand the interplay between Indonesian students' socioeconomic background, their views on the efficacy of language instruction, and the overall results of their language classes. This study aimed to achieve that goal by including 350 undergraduate students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang who were taking English-language courses. Based on their socioeconomic status, they were categorized. In response to a questionnaire, they shared their views on the best ways to acquire a second language in various linguistic settings. To ensure that all participants were on the same page in terms of their overall level of proficiency or the results of their language study, they were also given a practice test of the TOEFL exam. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and other parametric statistical tests were applied to the quantitative data. The results showed that the students' socioeconomic position had a positive correlation with the overall language learning outcome. In addition, the results showed that the participants' ideas about language learning had a significant impact on their language learning outcomes. The results suggest that both the rate of language acquisition and the likelihood of measurement errors can be improved provided language instructors have the information they need to help their students overcome negative beliefs.

Abstract

Background: The increase in knowledge about the internet is necessary for parents to keep up with the challenges of digital media and technology. The importance of strengthening media literacy is not limited to downloading ebooks but also printing them. Focusing solely on gadgets can limit thinking patterns, leading to a single direction. Purpose: The purpose of this aim is to: firstly, to promote media literacy and teach children how to use gadgets responsibly, and secondly, to explore the impact of devices on children's character. We aim to raise awareness about the potential dangers of social media and encourage the safe and thoughtful use of technology for childrenMethods The research method involves lectures, discussions, Q&A, and simulations of interacting with addicted children. Results The research findings demonstrate are the efficacy of using technologybased literacy media for learning through reading, exploring digital libraries, and visiting physical libraries. After observing and visiting digital libraries, as well as seeing library buildings in Lancang Garam village, Lhokseumawe City, it became clear that there are factors influencing children's interest in learning and reading (literacy). The biggest challenge facing children today is the unmonitored use of electronic media and various ICT platforms, as most parents and the surrounding environment do not provide sufficient supervision. Conclusion: Nowadays, technology is mainly represented by gadgets and smartphones, which people tend to rely on more than developing literacy skills in their daily routine. To ensure a healthy use of social media, it's essential to establish rules or guidelines from the beginning, which can help cultivate positive habits

Abstract

This article discusses the role of literature in shaping students' character through a holistic educational approach. Literature is understood from two perspectives: as a science that teaches critical analysis of moral and social values, and as an art that emphasizes aesthetic experience and the development of empathy. In addition, literary genres such as poetry, prose, and drama enrich students' understanding of the diversity of human expression. Literary movements such as romanticism, realism, naturalism, and modernism show how socio-cultural changes affect literary works. Through this understanding, students are invited to think critically, develop moral sensitivity, and build social awareness, so that literature becomes an important instrument in character education.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of curriculum frameworks on language development in preschool-aged children in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The research encompassed 250 subjects, comprising 100 preschool educators, 100 parents, and 50 children, who were chosen via stratified random sampling. A mixed-methods approach incorporated language proficiency evaluations, structured surveys, and semi-structured interviews. T-tests and ANOVA studied quantitative data to compare language development scores among different curriculum types, while qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis to investigate educators' viewpoints. Research indicates that children engaged in language-rich curricula exhibited markedly superior scores in vocabulary development (M = 85.4, SD = 10.2) and phonological awareness (M = 78.6, SD = 9.5) relative to their counterparts in traditional curricula (vocabulary: M = 68.2, SD = 12.5; phonological awareness: M = 62.4, SD = 10.8), with p < 0.01. Furthermore, 70% of parents indicated heightened involvement and motivation when local languages and cultural contexts were incorporated into the curriculum. The study underscores the necessity for curricula that integrate interactive and culturally pertinent learning experiences, professional development initiatives for instructors, and legislation that requires the incorporation of local languages in early childhood education. Policymakers are advised to allocate resources for culturally inclusive educational materials and teacher training initiatives to ensure a lasting effect on language acquisition and sustained academic achievement.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, specifically using the Canva application, on English language learning at SMP Negeri 3 Baranti. The study employs a quantitative approach with an experimental design, involving two groups of eighth-grade students: an experimental group using AI-powered Canva for learning activities and a control group following traditional teaching methods. Over an eight-week period, the experimental group engaged with various AI-enhanced educational tools, including learning videos, interactive posters, and quizzes. Data were collected through English skills tests and student questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including independent t-tests. The findings indicate that students in the experimental group showed significant improvement in their English language skills compared to the control group. Additionally, these students reported higher levels of motivation and engagement in the learning process. The study concludes that integrating AI in educational tools like Canva can enhance the quality of English language education. It recommends that educational institutions consider adopting AI technologies to create a more engaging and effective learning environment. Further research is suggested to explore the long-term effects of AI in education and its adaptation to individual student needs.

This impacts the provision of a new method for students in learning activities so that a teacher could develop a curriculum per the respective educational unit and the local needs of each student. Abstract

This study examines Mentimeter’s effectiveness in increasing student participation in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. Using a qualitative case study methodology, the research was carried out in a third-year English language course at Universitas Negeri Makassar, using class observations, students’ focus group interviews, and a questionnaire as data collection techniques. The study also seeks to understand the students’ engagement, such as behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement, in working with Mentimeter during the lesson. The results show that Mentimeter has been beneficial for all levels of engagement. For behavioral engagement, targets increased to 85% in participation rates and 92% in attendance as learning was focused on interactive and gamified sessions. Emotional engagement was improved as 78% of students who attended the sessions enjoyed it, while 81% of students agreed that such activities enhanced their interaction with studies rather than being boring. Respondents indicated deeper critical thinking affecting cognitive engagement with 45 new ideas created in brainstorming sessions, and of the 76% engaged, they felt that they understood and remembered the material better. This research study proves that the Mentimeter is an effective instrument in instructing English language learners that utilizes a more sustained and engaged participation, invoking desired emotions and thinking more. These results support the argument that factors such as the use of Mentimeter will improve students’ learning engagement in an EFL setting.
