Abstract

This research aims to analyse the discourse structure in the folklore of Asal-Muasal Keroak Bangkai by using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory, which includes three main dimensions: text structure, social cognition, and social context. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data analysis techniques developed by Miles and Huberman which consists of three research stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Teun A. van Dijk's CDA approach was used to analyse the macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure of the folktales. The results showed that at the macro level, the story raised the theme of prudence and the consequences of human negligence in facing spiritual warnings. At the superstructure level, the story has a complete and structured narrative flow from introduction to conflict resolution. The microstructure shows the use of archaic diction, metaphorical language style, and stylistic elements typical of traditional oral literature. In terms of social cognition, the author conveys the moral message of the importance of preparedness and belief in the signs of the supernatural. The social context of the story reflects the belief system and cultural values of the local people who value traditions, myths, and the educational function of folklore. The overall analysis shows that folklore is not only a form of entertainment, but also a means of learning and in society.

Abstract

This study examines the digitalization of prosody in Syair Gulung Ketapang as an intersection of linguistics and literature, particularly within the domain of verse studies. The research addresses the problems related to the digitalization of prosodic features, including duration, intensity, frequency, and the generation of Praat images, as well as their pedagogical implications in Indonesian language learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through documentation techniques using recording devices, mobile phones, and computers. The primary data source was the oral performance of Syair Gulung Ketapang delivered by the poet Mursalin, consisting of phrases, clauses, and sentences. The digitization process was conducted using the Praat software, which produced measurable values of duration, intensity, frequency, and visual representations of prosody. The analysis revealed eight average duration values per line, eight duration values per stanza, eight average intensity values, eight average frequency values, and twenty-four Praat images, which were further developed into one teaching material product. The findings demonstrate that prosodic digitalization not only enriches literary and linguistic analysis but also provides practical contributions to language learning, particularly by integrating technology into the study of oral traditions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phonological and lexical variations of the Malay Sambas dialect spoken in the villages of Tengguli, Mekar Jaya, and Sekura, located in Sambas Regency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method to analyze linguistic differences based on data collected from native Malay speakers residing in the three villages. The data consist of basic Swadesh vocabulary and spoken sentences that reflect the phonological and lexical characteristics of the local dialect. The findings reveal the presence of 31 lexical variations and 10 phonological variations among the three villages. These variations are influenced by geographical, demographic, and historical factors, which contribute to the linguistic diversity of the Malay Sambas dialect. Furthermore, the study highlights the pedagogical implications of these findings for the development of a Semester Learning Plan (Rencana Pembelajaran Semester, RPS) in teaching phonological and lexical variation within local language education.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and map the phonological correspondence, including any differences, and to create an isogloss file. The conversation method was used for data collection. The technique involved pointing at objects, pictures, photos, and activities. Instruments were used to facilitate data gathering. Data was obtained through in-depth conversations with informants using the prepared instruments. The analysis method used is both descriptive and comparative, employing both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods as well as the synchronic comparative method. The comparative method is used to compare phonological correspondence differences between observation points. The dialectometric formula was used to calculate the number of phonological differences. The isogloss file is created as the boundary of the Malay language phonological correspondence between observation points. The study results describe the correspondence of Malay language phonology in 13 observation points. Secondly, the phonological correspondence between observation points varies from 6.54% at observation points 1-2 to 14.33% at observation points 9-11. Furthermore, the mapping of the phonological variation and correspondence of the Malay language in West Kalimantan Province revealed the existence of three dialects: Sambas, Mempawah, and Sintang. Figure 2 displays the impact of correspondence and phonological variation on the location of each dialect. Additionally, the isogloss line that distinguishes the phonological correspondence of Malay language variations is represented in the form of isophonic files. This study is significant since it has identified three unique Malay dialects in West Kalimantan and revealed intriguing phonological correspondences among them. The Malay dialects of West Kalimantan exhibit systematic correspondences among the vowels [-e], [-?], [-a], and [-o]. The [o] sound closely resembles the [o] sound in the Malay language of Jambi Province. The Malay dialect of Jambi possesses a variant that concludes with the vowel [o]. This association in West Kalimantan is predominantly observed in the coastal areas of Sambas Regency. This finding suggests that the Malay dialects spoken in West Kalimantan and Jambi are interconnected. The [e] correspondence closely resembles the Malay dialect utilized in Jakarta, particularly in the regions of Sambas, Singkawang, and Bengkayang.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the code switching and code mixing of the Banyuke-Sakanis Dayak language, Banana"™ dialect, in Semayang Village from the perspective of sociolinguistic theory. The research approach used in this study is a qualitative approach that employs systematic methods. The code switching and code mixing of the Banyuke-Sakanis Dayak language, Banana"™ dialect, in Semayang Village, involve the phenomena of shifting and mixing between the Banana dialect, Bisomu language, Banyadu language, and Indonesian language. The Banana"™ dialect serves as B-1, while the Bisomu language, Banyadu language, Indonesian language, and elements of the English language serve as B-2. This process occurs due to the environmental factors of the research object, which is predominantly a bilingual and even multilingual family-based community. Code switching and code mixing are common linguistic phenomena experienced by speech communities during interactions. The community experiencing these phenomena is examined using sociolinguistic theory, as there is a close relationship between language phenomena and the community. Sociolinguistics discusses language from a societal perspective, while code switching and code mixing are among the phenomena that occur in speech communities. Data collection in this research uses the technique of observation through the method of note-taking. Once the data is obtained, the next step is data analysis.
