Abstract

Civic Education in higher education is expected to develop reflective, critical, and socially responsible citizens. However, its implementation often remains conventional and less connected to real-life civic experiences. This study aims to describe the current state of Civic Education learning at the university level and identify the need for transformation toward a more collaborative and experiential model. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through non-participatory classroom observations in eight Civic Education classes at Universitas Sriwijaya, supported by lecturer and student questionnaires. Thematic analysis revealed four major issues: limited collaboration with external stakeholders, lecture-dominated teaching methods, minimal use of contextual learning resources, and assignments that lack participatory engagement. These findings highlight a gap between the ideal vision of Civic Education and its practical application. The study underscores the urgency of redesigning Civic Education to emphasize student collaboration, contextual relevance, and experiential learning. It recommends developing innovative learning models that align Civic Education with 21st-century civic challenges and learner needs.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students in Indonesia, particularly in Pancasila Education. The study aimed to determine the effect of the CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) learning model on the critical thinking skills of seventh-grade students in Pancasila Education. The research method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental class taught using the CORE model and a control class using conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, N-Gain tests, and t-tests with the assistance of SPSS version 30. The results of the study indicate that the CORE learning model significantly influences the improvement of students' critical thinking skills, with a significance value of 0.037 < 0.05. Additionally, the questionnaire results show positive responses from students toward all stages of the CORE model. Therefore, the CORE model is effective for enhancing critical thinking skills in Pancasila Education learning at the seventh-grade level of junior high school.

Abstract

This study highlights the significance of integrating Moi community customary values into civic education to encourage students to develop a more tolerant mindset. This study uses a qualitative methodology to incorporate values such as solidarity, mutual respect, and togetherness into the learning process. According to the study's findings, including these values in the education of students not only enhances their capacity to exhibit tolerance towards others but also contributes to a greater sense of solidarity with other individuals and an increased sense of national pride. Furthermore, the incorporation of Moi traditions helps create an inclusive learning environment that equips students with the practical skills necessary to manage diversity. This study found that to successfully implement culture-based education to create a harmonious and pluralistic society, it is required to secure broader support from stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and local communities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the characteristics of social, emotional, and moral development in elementary school children, and (2) the implications of children's social, emotional, and moral development on the formation of social attitudes in elementary school children. The research method used in this study is literature. The results showed that the characteristics of social, emotional, and moral development of elementary school children were aware of the social roles, religion, race, and socioeconomic status of their peers, accepted cultural stereotypes, and adult attitudes towards their status, thus creating group awareness in their social environment. These characteristics will persist until late childhood and will continue until they are adults if educators provide a stimulus in continuing their mature developmental tasks. The stimulus is in the form of guidance, direction, and providing a good and healthy socio-cultural environment in social, emotional, and moral development so that it has implications for the formation of good social attitudes. For children's socialization skills to improve, the task of educators is to guide and direct them to learn to accept and carry out responsibilities, learn to compete with others, learn good social behavior, learn to work together, learn from adults, and learn with peers, learn to adapt themselves with group standards, learn to play to develop physical, learn to share, and learn sportsmanship. The most important thing is good parenting from parents as the first madrasa for children informing children with noble character as a form of good social attitude in society.
