Abstract

This study investigates the urgency of environmental education in elementary schools to develop students' environmental awareness and character. Using a library research methodology, the analysis draws upon academic articles, policy documents, and reports to explore the theoretical underpinnings and practical implementations of environmental education. The study employs an interdisciplinary approach rooted in educational and environmental theories, such as Tilbury's sustainable education framework and Palmer-Cooper's multidimensional environmental education model. Findings highlight that integrating environmental education into the curriculum fosters cognitive, affective, and behavioral awareness among students, enabling them to connect their actions to broader ecological systems. Project-based learning (PjBL), extracurricular activities, and community collaborations emerge as effective methods for instilling environmental values and practical skills. For example, direct student involvement in waste segregation, tree planting, and energy conservation projects has proven to enhance environmental responsibility and empathy. Furthermore, deficiencies in national policies and infrastructure are identified as barriers to effective environmental education. The study concludes that environmental education at the elementary level is crucial for developing a generation committed to sustainable practices. Recommendations include incorporating environmental education across curricula, training teachers in innovative methods, and enhancing school-community partnerships. These measures aim to transform environmental education into a cultural cornerstone, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and character to address global environmental challenges effectively. Keywords: Environmental Education; Character Development; Elementary School; Sustainability; Project-Based Learning

Abstract

Natural disasters are indiscriminate in their victims; elementary school-aged children are highly vulnerable to these events. However, disaster mitigation education for elementary school students remains scarce, and mitigation efforts in each region have unique characteristics that need to be adapted by educational units in various areas. This research aims to identify learning strategies for disaster mitigation among elementary school students and to determine whether disaster mitigation education needs to be implemented repeatedly by educational units. This research is a Systematic Literature Review conducted by identifying, reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting all available research. The design used in this study involves summarizing, reviewing, and analyzing 10 articles focusing on disaster mitigation in elementary schools, specifically two articles published in Q2 reputable journals and the rest in nationally accredited Sinta journals. These articles were retrieved from online journal databases such as Google Scholar, ResearchGate, SINTA, DOAJ, ERIC, and Scopus. The results of this research indicate that disaster mitigation learning strategies in elementary schools can be implemented using various teaching materials and learning media with visual learning styles, diverse simulation- and practice-based learning models and approaches, tailored to the characteristics of the disaster mitigation material and the age of elementary school students.

Abstract

One important factor in improving the quality of education is teacher performance. However, teacher performance remains a problematic topic. This is particularly true when it comes to factors that technically affect their performance. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze factors that contribute most to teacher performance. This study was conducted using a correlational survey method. Data source in this study was 120 elementary school teachers participated voluntarily. The data were collected through an online questionnaire based on a Likert scale. They were processed using SEM-PLS. The results showed that the most influential factor in shaping teacher performance was competence. School climate, principal leadership and social influence have no significant relationship with teacher performance. Based on the results, improving competence is one effective to improve teacher performance. In addition, the other factors such as principal leadership, school climate, motivation, social influence, and teacher’s opportunity also affect teacher performance, albeit not significant. Through supportive school climate, high motivation and social support, teachers are hoped to show steady improvement to their performance. With better teacher performance it is hoped that educational progress will be achieved.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to use the System Usability Scale (SUS) method to see how useful a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) assessment tool would be in Pancasila Education. Thirty fifth-grade Pancasila Education teachers from primary schools took part in a quantitative descriptive method. We used SUS scores to determine how useful the developed tool was, using established usability standards to do so. The results show that the instrument got an average SUS score of 76.5, which puts it in the "practical" and "good" categories. More research shows that teachers thought the tool was easy to use, understood its instructions, and felt sure they could use it in the classroom. These results show how important it is to test the usability of educational tools, especially those that are meant to help people learn 21st-century skills. The study suggests that practicality testing should be a key part of validating educational tools and that more research should be done on how usable they are in digital and long-term learning settings.
