Abstract

A lozenge is a form of solid pharmaceutical preparation designed to dissolve slowly in the oral cavity, providing both local and systemic effects. In lozenge formulation, binders play an important role in ensuring tablet hardness and appropriate dissolution time. This study aims to compare the effects of synthetic and natural binders on the physical properties and performance of lozenges. Synthetic binders such as PVP, CMC Na, and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) tend to provide higher tablet hardness and more controlled dissolution times. Meanwhile, natural binders such as maltodextrin, gum arabic, and jackfruit seed starch show good abilities to enhance tablet cohesion, with the additional benefits of biocompatibility and biodegradability. The research results indicate that synthetic binders provide better physical stability, while natural binders are preferred due to their environmentally friendly properties and ability to improve patient acceptance.

Abstract

Paracetamol is one of the most widely used analgesic-antipyretic drugs and is available in various formulations, including solid tablets and liquid syrups, which differ significantly in long-term stability. This review analyzes data from ten journal studies (2013–2024) comparing the stability of paracetamol in different dosage forms. A literature review method was employed to assess physical and chemical stability under various storage conditions. Solid dosage forms, such as tablets, generally exhibit excellent long-term stability. When stored in sealed packaging at 30 °C/75% RH, tablets maintained potency and low impurity levels for up to five years. In contrast, liquid formulations, especially oral suspensions, degrade more rapidly once opened. For example, an opened Panadol® suspension retained acceptable quality for about five months under optimal conditions (refrigerated, protected from light) and degraded faster (around 3.5 months) under high temperatures. The main degradation product, p-aminophenol (PAP), remained below 0.005% in tablets but exceeded the 0.1% limit in most opened suspensions.Formulation factors, including pH and cosolvent use (e.g., glycerin, PEG 400), significantly affected liquid stability. Syrups with PEG 400 + glycerin maintained stable pH levels (5.6–6.8). In conclusion, solid forms are more stable than liquids, and careful formulation and adherence to storage guidelines are essential to ensure product quality.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to use sheep media in developing early childhood creativity. The method used is service-learning. The targets in this service are educators at TKIT Asy Syaamil Qur'anic Fullday School. The results of the service show that educators at TKIT Asy Syaamil Qur'anic Fullday School can make sheep media well. This media can then be used to develop early childhood creativity and be used in the learning process and introduction of animal themes for students.

Abstract

The pharmaceutical industry produces solid, liquid, and gaseous waste containing active pharmaceutical ingredients that pose serious environmental risks. These wastes can disrupt ecosystems and accelerate antimicrobial resistance. This systematic literature review examines pharmaceutical waste concepts, classifications, characteristics, and relevant regulatory frameworks. It also addresses ecotoxicological effects on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, antibiotic contamination and resistance, water and soil pollution, treatment technologies, industrial policies, and best practices. Findings show that conventional wastewater treatment is largely ineffective at removing pharmaceutical residues, resulting in their presence in surface water, soil, and even drinking water. Compounds such as β-blockers, cytostatics, antibiotics, and hormones harm aquatic life by impairing reproduction and causing mutations. Antibiotic-laden industrial waste contributes to the emergence of resistant bacteria. Recommended treatment methods include biothermal processes, advanced oxidation (e.g., UV/H₂O₂, ozonation), adsorption (activated carbon), coagulation-flocculation, and controlled incineration. Stronger enforcement of hazardous waste regulations (e.g., Government Regulation No. 101/2014, Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 56/2015) and adherence to WHO (2025) guidelines are essential. In conclusion, multisectoral collaboration (One Health), improved waste treatment capacity, and adoption of best practices are crucial to preventing pharmaceutical pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Paracetamol is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic drug in tablet dosage form. Ensuring the stability of paracetamol tablets is essential to maintain drug efficacy, safety, and quality during their shelf life. This study aims to evaluate the physical and chemical stability of paracetamol tablets stored under different temperature and humidity conditions. The review method used in this article involves analyzing published data from several sources, focusing on changes in physical appearance (color, shape, and odor) and chemical parameters such as active pharmaceutical ingredient content over time. The findings indicate that higher temperatures and humidity accelerate degradation and affect the drug's quality, particularly through discoloration and reduction in active content. Packaging also plays a crucial role in maintaining stability, especially in tropical climates. The results highlight the importance of stability testing in pharmaceutical quality assurance and support the application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and appropriate storage guidelines. This paper contributes to the understanding of stability profiles of commonly used drugs and provides a reference for the formulation and packaging development of heat-sensitive medications.

Abstract

Optimization of primary and secondary packaging is crucial for the quality and efficiency of drug production. The drug packaging process consists of primary packaging that is in direct contact with the product and secondary packaging that provides additional protection and important information. This study aims to analyze various methods applied in pharmaceutical packaging to assess the effectiveness of Lean Manufacturing (VSM), Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). This study shows that VSM significantly reduces the time of secondary packaging activities. SMED reduces the lead time of primary packaging analysis by 58.06%. Meanwhile, OEE analysis of primary packaging identified high set-up/adjustment as the main cause of losses. The importance of implementing structured methods to increase productivity, reduce waste, and ensure a more efficient and effective packaging process in the pharmaceutical industry, contributing to improving product quality and safety.

Abstract

Industri farmasi menghasilkan limbah padat yang tergolong bahan berbahaya dan beracun (B3), sehingga memerlukan pengelolaan khusus untuk mencegah dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan masyarakat. Kajian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis berbagai strategi pengelolaan limbah padat industri farmasi yang telah diterapkan secara global maupun nasional. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian pustaka (literature review) terhadap sumber-sumber ilmiah terkini dan relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa metode insinerasi suhu tinggi, inertisasi, pengkapsulan, autoklaf, microwave, dan penimbunan aman merupakan pendekatan umum yang digunakan. Masing-masing metode memiliki keunggulan dan keterbatasan berdasarkan efektivitas, biaya, dan dampak lingkungan. Studi ini menegaskan pentingnya penerapan metode pengolahan yang sesuai dengan karakteristik limbah dan standar keberlanjutan. Kesimpulan dari kajian ini menunjukkan perlunya sinergi antara teknologi pengolahan dan kebijakan lingkungan untuk meningkatkan efektivitas pengelolaan limbah padat di sektor farmasi secara berkelanjutan

Abstract

Limbah cair yang dihasilkan oleh industri farmasi mengandung senyawa aktif farmasi (PhACs) serta parameter pencemar seperti Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) dan Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), yang bersifat persisten dan sulit terdegradasi secara alami, sehingga berpotensi mencemari lingkungan perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji berbagai strategi dan teknologi pengolahan limbah cair di industri farmasi serta mengevaluasi efektivitasnya dalam menurunkan beban pencemar. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan studi pustaka terhadap literatur ilmiah dan dokumen resmi yang relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa teknologi pengolahan seperti kombinasi proses anaerobik-aerobik, sistem biofilter, koagulasi-flokulasi, serta metode reagen Fenton dan Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) memiliki potensi tinggi dalam menurunkan kadar polutan. Wetland buatan juga terbukti efektif dan ramah lingkungan. Namun demikian, implementasi teknologi ini masih menghadapi tantangan, termasuk keterbatasan infrastruktur, biaya operasional yang tinggi, serta belum adanya regulasi spesifik terkait PhACs di Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pendekatan pengelolaan limbah yang terintegrasi, didukung oleh kebijakan yang adaptif serta adopsi teknologi yang berkelanjutan guna menjamin perlindungan lingkungan dan kesehatan masyarakat

Abstract

Industri farmasi modern menghadapi tantangan signifikan dalam menjamin mutu dan keamanan produk, khususnya dalam penanganan keluhan, penarikan produk, dan pelaksanaan inspeksi diri. Artikel ini merupakan tinjauan pustaka yang mengevaluasi berbagai strategi dan praktik terbaik dalam pengelolaan mutu di sepanjang rantai pasok farmasi. Studi ini menyoroti pentingnya sistem dokumentasi keluhan yang efektif, prosedur penarikan produk yang responsif, serta inspeksi diri yang sistematis untuk memastikan kepatuhan terhadap standar Cara Pembuatan Obat yang Baik (CPOB). Literatur juga menunjukkan peran teknologi seperti blockchain dalam meningkatkan transparansi dan efisiensi sistem mutu. Temuan ini memperkuat urgensi transformasi manajemen rantai pasok farmasi menuju pendekatan yang lebih adaptif dan berbasis data. Abstract

Penarikan kembali produk (recall) dalam industri farmasi merupakan langkah krusial untuk menjaga keselamatan pasien dan kepatuhan terhadap regulasi. Fenomena seperti cacat produksi, distribusi yang tidak tepat, serta keberadaan obat palsu masih menjadi tantangan signifikan di berbagai negara, termasuk Indonesia. Artikel ini mengulas berbagai literatur dan hasil penelitian terkait strategi, kebijakan, serta efektivitas penanganan recall produk farmasi. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka (literature review) dengan sumber dari jurnal terindeks, dokumen regulasi, dan publikasi organisasi internasional. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi prosedur operasional standar (SOP), sistem logistik terbalik, dan pemanfaatan teknologi seperti ERP, barcode serialization, serta pelaporan digital dapat meningkatkan akurasi pelacakan dan efisiensi recall. Namun, tantangan tetap ada dalam hal keterbatasan infrastruktur, kurangnya koordinasi antar pemangku kepentingan, dan kompetensi teknis SDM. Kajian ini menegaskan bahwa keberhasilan recall bergantung pada integrasi sistem informasi, regulasi yang tegas, dan kolaborasi lintas sektor. Temuan ini penting sebagai dasar pengambilan kebijakan berbasis bukti dalam memperkuat sistem manajemen mutu farmasi di Indonesia.
