Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' attitudes toward mathematics learning based on the five affective domain dimensions of Krathwohl: Receiving, Responding, Valuing, Organization, and Characterization. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected from 447 junior high school students in Palu City through questionnaires and analyzed using the Rasch Model to evaluate item quality and student ability across each attitude component. The results indicated that most students fell into the low to moderate attitude categories, with logit distributions concentrated below the average value. Item reliability across all components was in the very high category (≥0.96), indicating strong instrument consistency in measuring the targeted constructs, while person reliability in components such as Organization and Receiving remained relatively low. The Wright Map analysis revealed a mismatch between students' ability levels and the difficulty of certain items, particularly in components requiring value internalization. These findings underscore the importance of implementing instructional strategies that holistically foster students' affective development. The study recommends reflective, participatory, and contextual learning approaches to strengthen students' positive attitudes toward mathematics learning in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Perineal tears after childbirth are common and can cause pain, dyspareunia, psychological trauma, and a risk of incontinence, all of which impact the mother’s quality of life. Approximately 85% of women who give birth vaginally experience perineal trauma, with 32–33% due to episiotomy and 52% due to spontaneous lacerations. WHO reports that nearly 90% of normal deliveries experience perineal tears. Honey is one of the natural alternatives known to accelerate tissue regeneration and has proven superior in wound healing. This study aims to determine the effect of honey application on perineal wound healing among postpartum women in the working area of Pekurun Community Health Center, North Lampung Regency. Methods: This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 46 postpartum mothers in the working area of Pekurun Community Health Center, and a total of 30 respondents were selected as samples using purposive sampling. They were divided into two groups: 15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. Data were collected through observation sheets and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis (paired sample t-test).Results: The research results showed that in the intervention group, the mean perineal wound healing score on day 1 was 10.60 and decreased to 0.53 on day 7, while in the control group, the mean score on day 1 was 10.67 and decreased to 1.60 on day 7. There was a significant effect of honey application on perineal wound healing among postpartum women in the working area of Pekurun Community Health Center, North Lampung Regency (p-value = 0.000). It is recommended that postpartum mothers use honey as one of the complementary treatments for perineal wounds by applying 5 ml of honey twice daily.

Abstract

Background: Student motivation in elementary mathematics learning often decreases when classroom instruction relies mainly on teacher-centered approaches. Combining cooperative learning with ice-breaking activities may help create a more engaging and emotionally supportive learning environment. Aim: This study aimed to examine whether the Numbered Heads Together cooperative learning model supported by ice-breaking activities could improve students’ motivation to learn mathematics compared to conventional instruction. Method: A quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design was conducted involving 36 third-grade students from two public elementary schools. The experimental group received mathematics instruction using the Numbered Heads Together model integrated with ice-breaking activities, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Students’ learning motivation was measured through a validated Likert-scale questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test. Results: Both groups demonstrated an increase in learning motivation after instruction; however, the improvement in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference in posttest motivation scores between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings indicate that integrating ice-breaking activities into Numbered Heads Together cooperative learning can strengthen elementary students’ motivation to learn mathematics by fostering active participation and a positive classroom atmosphere.

Abstract

This study aims to describe mathematical communication between male and female students with low mathematical performance and to identify ways to support their mathematical communication skills. Students with mathematical abilities often struggle to express mathematical ideas clearly, making it important to explore their communication patterns and develop effective teaching strategies. A male and a female student from the twelfth grade of high school, were chosen as participants due to their low performance in mathematics. The selection of these subjects was based on the method of pairing data created by Milles. Data collection involved administering tests and using a semi-structured interview approach, which were then analyzed qualitatively. The results of this research indicated that there are differences in mathematical communication exhibited by male and female students. Both participants expressed mathematical concepts by identifying key points obtained from the test. They correctly used mathematical notation and adequately represented their ideas through graphical means. The male student showed a stronger grasp by connecting various concepts. However, there were instances when they struggled to articulate their thoughts accurately in writing. The results of this study provide insights for teachers in designing teaching strategies that improve low-achieving students' mathematical communication skills, both oral and written communication. This is expected to support students in expressing mathematical ideas effectively.
