Abstract

Oil palm frond waste is an abundant biomass that has not been optimally utilized in Bontang City, East Kalimantan, with the potential for processing into briquettes as an alternative energy source. This study aims to design and produce a briquette molding machine for oil palm frond waste with a hydraulic system using SolidWorks 2011 software, and to determine the effect of pressure variations on the quality of the resulting briquettes. The research method includes literature study, 3D design, machine construction, and testing of components and briquette results. The machine is designed with a UNP 80 frame, a cylindrical mold, a press piston, a hydraulic jack, and a return spring. Tests were carried out at three pressure variations, namely 50 bar, 100 bar, and 150 bar. The results showed that the pressure of 150 bar was 0.00182 g/cm³, while the lowest water content was also found at a pressure of 150 bar, namely 8.33%, resulting in denser and more flammable briquettes. The lowest ash content was 5.71% at 100 bar, indicating the least combustion residue at medium pressure. Overall, the hydraulic briquette press was able to operate stably and produce briquettes with quality that meets biomass fuel standards. This research is expected to provide an alternative solution for utilizing biomass waste while increasing the productivity of (UMKM) in Bontang City.

Abstract

This study underscores the pressing need to comprehend the religious practices of habaib in Indonesia within the conceptual framework of Antonio Gramsci's hegemony theory. This phenomenon can be attributed to the profound socio-religious influence of Habaib within Indonesian Muslim society. habaib is frequently regarded not only as a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, but also as a moral and spiritual authority. This perspective prompts inquiries into the mechanisms through which cultural hegemony can be established by means of religious practices that are transmitted across generations. The present study aims to critically examine how Habaib religious practices, such as maulid, haul, and pilgrimage, act as tools of hegemony within the framework of civil and political society as understood by Gramsci. The methodological approach employed in this study is a qualitative one, incorporating a library research method, with a focus on the analysis of primary and secondary sources pertinent to the theoretical framework of hegemony and the historical context of Habaib. The results of this study demonstrate two significant conclusions. Firstly, Habaib religious practices function as a means of consensus building through symbolic domination in civil society. Secondly, Habaib's position as traditional intellectuals enables them to maintain cultural domination without the use of coercive power. This study demonstrates that religious practices function not only as spiritual activities, but also as a strategic instrument in the process of shaping and maintaining hegemony within Indonesian Muslim society. Abstract

This study systematically reviews 45 articles published between 2010 and 2025 to examine the transformation of the Rambu Solo’ funeral ceremony in Tana Toraja from a sacred ritual to a cultural tourism commodity. The objectives are to analyze shifts in ritual function, evaluate socio-economic impacts on local families, and identify cultural preservation strategies employed by the Toraja community. Using a qualitative approach with Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and thematic analysis, the study synthesizes patterns of ritual adaptation, cultural commodification, identity negotiation, and community-based preservation initiatives. Findings reveal that Rambu Solo’ now serves both spiritual and socio-economic purposes, with tourism generating income and cultural pride but also creating financial pressures and social competition. Community-based tourism, cultural festivals, educational programs, and heritage documentation are employed to maintain the sacred essence of rituals while adapting to global economic realities. The study underscores the novelty of empowering local communities to curate their cultural narratives, balancing authenticity and economic pragmatism. These insights provide guidance for sustainable cultural tourism development that preserves Toraja’s spiritual and social identity amidst globalization.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine how adaptive governance enhances community resilience in responding to environmental change in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, by analyzing how local institutions, social networks, and knowledge systems interact to support collective adaptation strategies. Subjects and Methods: A qualitative research design was employed, involving in-depth interviews with community leaders, local government officials, and key stakeholders in both coastal and upland areas. Data collection was supported by direct field observations and document analysis to capture institutional practices, social interactions, and knowledge-sharing processes. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns and relationships that illustrate the mechanisms through which governance and community action contribute to resilience. Results: The findings show that institutional flexibility enables rapid, context-sensitive decision-making and supports the integration of traditional and formal governance structures. Social capital and collective action play vital roles in mobilizing community resources, building trust, and sustaining cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. Knowledge integration, combining local ecological insights with scientific understanding, promotes continuous learning and innovation in adaptation practices. Participatory governance also strengthens legitimacy and community engagement, enhancing the capacity to respond to complex socio-ecological dynamics. Conclusion: The study concludes that resilience in South Sulawesi is strengthened not through rigid control, but through flexibility, collaboration, and continuous learning within socio-ecological systems. Adaptive governance fosters inclusivity, reflexivity, and co-creation among institutions and communities. It positions managers as facilitators of collective intelligence, encouraging distributed leadership, trust-based networks, and equity-centered decision-making to support sustainable and just futures.
