Abstract

Hypertension in the elderly is often caused by a degenerative process in the arteries, the blood vessels become stiff so that peripheral resistance increases as a result of increased blood pressure/hypertension causing various problems in the elderly. Full-blooded back is one type of complementary therapy that is useful for blood circulation and provides a relaxing effect, by stimulating the release of endorphins, cortisol, this hormone can provide a calm/relaxing effect and vasodilation occurs in blood vessels resulting in a decrease in blood pressure. blood pressure, headaches, sleep quality, blood glucose and cholesterol levels in the elderly with hypertension. This research method is pre-experimental with one group pre-post test design. The sampling technique used accidental sampling with a sample size of 30. The results of the statistical analysis of the Wilcoxon sign rank test, obtained a p-value of 0.001 for blood pressure, headache, sleep quality and cholesterol levels (LDL), while for glucose levels p-value: 0.018 then H0 is rejected, meaning that there is an effect of full-blooded therapy on blood pressure, headaches, sleep quality, blood glucose and cholesterol (LDL) levels in elderly people with hypertension.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease of the cardiovascular system characterized by abnormal blood pressure above 140-90 mmHg. Efforts to reduce blood pressure can be done with non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapy. One of non-pharmacological therapy is a combination of diaphragmatic breathing exercise and guided imagery. The aim of this research was to study a combination of diaphragmatic breathing exercise and guided imagery of changes in blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The research design used is Quasy Experimental with the type of Pre-Post test Control Group Design. The large sample taken was 28 respondents with purposive sampling technique. This study uses the Shapiro-Wilk normality test which shows p-value less than 0.05 so that data distribution is not normal. Furthermore, the analysis of differences using Wilcoxon showed a decrease in blood pressure in the experiment and control group. Although the Mann-Whitney test did not show differences between the experiment and control group, clinically there was a combination of diaphragmatic breathing exercise and guided imagery to decrease blood pressure, as evidenced by the p-value of systolic 0.001 less than p-value diastolic which is 0.007. The combination of diaphragmatic breathing exercise and guided imagery is expected to be an alternative therapy for lowering blood pressure in hypertension. Abstract

Poverty is multidimensional and has a close relationship with food insecurity. By using the Alkire-Foster MPI with four dimensions (monetary, health, education, basic infrastructure), it was found that the monetary dimension has a role and contributes to multidimensional poverty although it’s not the main factor. The causes of poverty are obtained from other dominant dimensions. Meanwhile, the portrait of household food security in North Kalimantan Province in aggregate has been classified into food security category. It is concluded that poverty affects food security. This study proves that multidimensional poor households are very likely to become food insecurity households.

Abstract

Abstract

It is known that soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) infection in children associates with growth and developed restriction in children, which is shown by nutritional status. However, the studies which are investigating this phenomenon is still limited in Indonesia. This recent study aimed to compare students who infected and non-infected with STH towards their nutritional status. An analytic cross-sectional research design was conducted in two elementary school students at Mayamuk sub-district, Sorong district, in January 2020. STHs infection was identifi ed by lugol stained wet mount smear from their stool under a light microscope. Children nutritional status was determined by body mass index based on age. A total of 164 children (67.5%, 164/243) were voluntary to participate by informed consent and eligible. Twenty-seven children (16.5%, 27/164) were infected with one or more STH species of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, hookworm, and Strongyloides stercoralis. T. trichiura (81.5%, 22/27) was the most common species found, either in single or mixed infection. Children nutritional status was observed as thinness, normal, overweight, and obese, that was 6.1% (10/164), 75% (123/164), 6.7% (11/164), and 12.2 % (20/164) respectively. STHs infection occurred in children with nutritional status of thinness 3.7% (1/27), normal 74.1% (20/27), overweight 3.7% (1/27), and obese 18.5% (5/27). There was no signifi cant diff erence between STHs infected children and non-infected children on their nutritional status (p=0.616, ChiSquare test). Thus, it indicated that STHs infection was not only the factor to induce the impairment of nutritional status in children at Mayamuk sub-district. It needs further investigation to clarify the factors which are leading to the thinness, overweight, and obese in Mayamuk children.

Abstract

Background: Fractional Carbon Dioxide (CO2) LASER has better efficacy compared to conventional LASER in treating scar tissue such as acne scars, keloids, and striae albae. However, a population with darker skin has a higher risk of side effects, especially in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of fractional CO2 LASER in new patients with acne scars, keloids, and striae albae in the Dermatovenereology outpatient clinic. Methods: Retrospective analysis was done on 42 medical records of patients who met the inclusion criterion, which was those who have undergone fractional CO2 LASER treatments. The efficacy and side effects of the therapy were identified and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17 program. Result: A total of 42.9% of patients underwent fractional CO2 LASER treatments for acne scars, while 31% and 26.1% of patients received treatments for keloids and striae albae, respectively. There was a statistically significant decrease in the degree of acne scar (2.72 ± 0.83), keloid height (2.2 ± 0.405), and striae width (0.39 ± 0.02). The statistically significant side effects were hyperpigmentation (59.5%), crustae (26.2%), erythema ≥ for 4 days (19%), and new acne (19%). Conclusion: Fractional CO2 LASER was effective for treating scar tissue (acne scars, keloids, and striae albae) with a higher incidence of side effects in population with darker skin and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
