Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media at Al Ma’arif Singosari High School, an Islamic educational institution undergoing digital transformation. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research explores the lived experiences, perceptions, and challenges encountered by teachers, students, and administrators. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis, ensuring methodological triangulation. Findings indicate that AR positively influenced teaching practices, fostering creativity and a shift from content delivery to facilitative instruction. Students reported increased engagement and improved comprehension of abstract concepts across subjects such as Islamic Studies, Biology, and Arabic. However, technical challenges—including device compatibility, limited internet connectivity, and distractions from mobile devices—posed significant barriers. These dual outcomes highlight both the pedagogical potential and operational limitations of AR in Islamic education. The study provides practical implications for institutions considering similar initiatives, emphasizing the importance of teacher training, infrastructure readiness, and institutional support. While offering a replicable framework, this single-site study is limited in scope and duration. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of AR integration, its adaptability across diverse Islamic school contexts, and the development of culturally and pedagogically aligned AR content.

Abstract

The Taḥdīd al-Mustawa (proficiency level determination) test is a critical gateway for international students at Al-Azhar University, Egypt, making its psychometric quality paramount. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive quality analysis of this high-stakes test by evaluating its validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminant power. A quantitative descriptive-analytical design was employed, using Classical Test Theory (CTT) to analyze the 70 multiple-choice items from the 2025 placement test. The results revealed a robust instrument: 85.7% of items demonstrated good to high validity, and the test achieved excellent internal consistency reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.89. Furthermore, the test exhibited an ideal difficulty distribution, with 65.7% of items categorized as moderate. The discriminant power was also highly satisfactory, with 78.6% of items effectively differentiating between high- and low-proficiency students. This study concludes that the test is a valid and reliable instrument, although data-driven recommendations are provided for revising a small subset of underperforming items.

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive Nahwu learning videos on TikTok that follow the “Learn in 10 Minutes” concept. This study uses the ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) model, which includes needs analysis, content design, video development, implementation via TikTok, and initial evaluation based on audience responses. The results of this study are 22 interactive videos with a maximum duration of 10 minutes, equipped with quizzes based on Nahwu material created with AI-based Canva. Initial responses indicate 120–411 viewers per video and 4–19 likes per video, despite the new content. The primary data subjects were 30 grade XII students from SMK al-Ikhwaniyah Jakarta, with open interviews via WhatsApp, and secondary data from a journal article. The researcher then conducted a thematic, descriptive, qualitative analysis that integrated the ADDIE stages. Based on the existing data, this study found that this teaching media is interesting, easy to understand, and relevant to the digital generation. Further research is needed to assess its effectiveness on learning outcomes empirically.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of gamification in learning Arabic speaking skills (maharah al-kalam) at the Madrasah Aliyah level. Using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, the research involved 60 tenth-grade students in Jombang, East Java, divided into an experimental group (gamification-based learning using the Quizizz platform and leaderboard) and a control group (traditional lecture and structured exercise-based learning). Data were collected through speaking skill tests, motivation and language anxiety questionnaires, participatory observation, and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students. Quantitative data were analyzed using independent t-tests and effect size calculations (Cohen's), while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The results show that gamification significantly improved students' Arabic speaking skills (p < 0.05; d = 1.76) by fostering a low-anxiety, interactive, and student-centered learning environment. Student participation increased from 40% to over 85%, accompanied by gains in vocabulary mastery, speaking fluency, motivation, self-confidence, and emotional engagement. Effective activities included role-play, simulations, word-guessing games, and information gap tasks. The study concludes that systematic gamification integration is an effective pedagogical approach for enhancing oral communicative competence, highlighting the importance of teacher training to ensure sustainable learning outcomes.
