Abstract

Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to climate change. The primary objective of this study is to use the Geographic Information System (GIS) approach to assess the level of vulnerability in the coastal area of Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, by utilizing the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) and analyzing the role of mangrove land cover in explaining the coastal vulnerability based on land cover characteristics. Abstract

The story of Prophet Ibrahim is one of the most frequently told stories in the Qur'an. This article aims to analyze Gabriel Said Reynolds' interpretation that highlights the aspect of Prophet Ibrahim's wife's laughter found in the Qur'an. This study uses a qualitative approach to the literature review type. This study found that1) Reynolds shows that the laughter of Prophet Abraham's wife, Siti Sarah, can be understood in two ways: as an expression of joy or astonishment. From Reynolds’s perspective, laughter also shows Sarah's disbelief in the good news delivered by the angels. Reynolds offers an interpretation that differs from the perspectives of most Islamic scholars. Reynolds is a linguist and historian of Christianity, so he provides an outsider's view of the Qur'ān. Nevertheless, Reynolds’s interpretation still provides an interesting insight into the story of Prophet Abraham and how interpretations can vary depending on the perspective used. 2) The story of Prophet Abraham shows the importance of trust in and loyalty to God. However, through Reynolds’s interpretation, we can also understand that trust itself can sometimes be questioned and understood in different ways. In this case, the laughter of Prophet Ibrahim's wife reminds us that trust in God can be expressed in many ways, including through expressions of joy or disbelief. Contribution: This study enriches Qur'anic interpretation by showing that Sarah's laughter has diverse meanings based on linguistic and historical perspectives.

Abstract

Commonly, people pay their zakāt to aṣnāf groups based on their preferences and considerations. However, in Madura, the distribution of zakāt continues to adhere to the traditional notion, wherein it is mainly allocated and prioritized to kiai. This faces a debatable phenomenon whether Kiai could be zakāt recipients or not. Therefore, this research aims to explore the diversification role of Kiai in zakāt payment and describe the theological and social construction among zakāt payment in Madura. The present study employed qualitative research methodologies, specifically utilizing interviews as the primary data collection technique. The participants in this study included kiai, community members, and leaders from Madurese community. This research study indicates that the Madurese Muslim community designates kiai as mustahīqq zakāt under masākīn, fī sabīlillāh, and amīl categories. The diversification of the Kiai’s role is predicated upon the theological perspective held by Madurese Muslim community which posits that the kiai is a rightful recipient of zakāt. Additionally, Madurese Muslim community keeps a social perception that kiai is a revered individual deserving of compensation. Consequently, even though Madurese people understand the existence of religious doctrine to whom they have to spend zakāt, they still prioritize giving zakāt to kiai as the result of their typical social construction.

Abstract

Indonesia's Foreign Policy has played an essential role in determining the direction of this country's international relations. One example is the termination of Indonesia's participation in the Inter-Governmental Group on Indonesia (IGGI) in 1992. This study analyses the factors underlying Indonesia's foreign policy decision to terminate the IGGI. Using a historical approach and foreign policy analysis, this research highlights the political, economic and strategic factors influencing these policies. The results show that Indonesia's termination of the IGGI was a response to regional and global political dynamics at the time and shifts in Indonesia's foreign policy priorities. The implications of terminating the IGGI on Indonesia's bilateral relations with donor countries and Indonesia's domestic political dynamics are also debated in this analysis. This study provides important insights into the relationship between Indonesian foreign policy and regional political dynamics in the past and its relevance in the current context of Indonesian foreign policy.

Abstract

As the primary reservoir of Islamic doctrines, the Koran offers spiritual counsel and examines diverse facets of human existence, encompassing constitutional law. An essential aspect emphasised in the Koran is the vocabulary about the state or governance. This essay aims to elucidate the state language found in the Al-Quran and its significance in constitutional law. Additionally, it seeks to comprehend the ideas delineated in the Al-Quran concerning the organisation and operation of the state within the context of Islam. A profound comprehension of the specific vocabulary used in the Al-Quran about governance is crucial in establishing a solid conceptual basis for advancing Islamic constitutional law. This is particularly applicable in contemporary Muslim communities that require direction in establishing a government that aligns with Islamic ideals. The conclusion of the study indicates that the Al-Quran use the terms "Dawlah", "Daulah", and "Imarah" to emphasise the notion of state or leadership within the context of Islam. These two phrases highlight the significance of God's supremacy and fairness in governance. Through a comprehensive comprehension of this concept, Muslim communities can construct a nation founded upon authentic Islamic principles.
