Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are fundamental to inquiry-based science learning and important for linking chemistry concepts with environmental issues. However, valid instruments to assess SPS in specific topics, such as salt hydrolysis, are still limited. This study aimed to develop and validate a multiple-choice test to evaluate eleventh-grade students’ SPS in the context of salt hydrolysis, emphasizing environmental chemistry applications. A research and development (R&D) design with five stages was employed: literature review, item development, expert validation, pilot testing, and finalization. Four chemistry education specialists provided expert judgment, and a pilot study was conducted with 150 eleventh-grade students from five high schools. Item validity, difficulty, discrimination index, and reliability were analyzed. The final test contained 28 items with a high content validity index (CVI = 0.90). Item analysis indicated two easy, 25 medium, and one difficult item. Discrimination indices classified five items as very good, 20 good, two sufficient, and one poor. All items were empirically valid, and the reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.891) demonstrated strong internal consistency. Compared with similar SPS instruments, this test integrated authentic environmental contexts, such as the impact of salt hydrolysis on water pH, thereby enhancing ecological validity. The instrument provides teachers with a reliable diagnostic tool to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in SPS. Beyond assessment, the instrument supports formative and summative evaluations, integrates environmental issues into chemistry learning, and serves as a reference for developing similar instruments in other science domains.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is increasingly recognized as an essential skill for students to face global economic and social challenges. However, research on entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) among high school students in Indonesia remains limited, despite its crucial role in shaping entrepreneurial intentions and readiness. This study aims to explore students’ levels of ESE and analyze the influence of gender and entrepreneurial experience on their abilities and intentions. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys measuring knowledge, interest, experience, and ESE. The findings reveal that students have high levels of entrepreneurial knowledge and interest, with ESE ranging from moderate to high. Gender was found to influence knowledge, interest, and ESE, with female students tending to demonstrate stronger entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, prior entrepreneurial experience was shown to enhance both ESE and students’ interest in entrepreneurship. Qualitative analysis highlighted that students perceive capital, marketing, and product development as key needs for entrepreneurship, while common challenges include competition and financial constraints. Overall, students expressed neutral to positive sentiments toward entrepreneurial engagement. These findings underscore the importance of practical, gender-sensitive, and experiential entrepreneurship education to strengthen ESE and better prepare students for the challenges of the business world.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to improve students understanding of concepts and chemistry identity in molecular shape material through the application of the learning cycle 5E (LC 5E) model assisted by interactive digital simulator media. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) with the Kemmis and Taggart model. The model has four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects in this study were 32 students from class X-3 SMA Brawijaya Smart School in the 2024/2025 academic year. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the study, it is known that in cycle I, the application of LC 5E assisted by interactive digital simulator media has not been able to improve understanding of molecular shapes and the percentage increase in students' chemistry identity is low. Therefore, improvements were made in cycle II referring to the results of the reflection, there was an increase in concept understanding from 68% to 82% with classical completeness reaching 81%. In addition, the n-gain value of 71.8% was obtained, indicating that the application of the LC 5E model assisted by interactive digital simulator media was quite effective in improving students' concept understanding on molecular shape material. There was also an increase in students' chemistry identity, especially related to the indicators of mastery experiences and verbal persuasion, 57% and 50% respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that through the application of the 5E learning cycle model assisted by interactive digital simulator media on the material of molecular shapes is effective enough to improve students' concept understanding and chemistry identity.

Abstract

The escalating global biodiversity crisis underscores the critical need for effective educational strategies that promote environmental awareness and competencies. This research and development study addresses this imperative by designing and evaluating "BioDiv Web," an innovative e-learning platform for biodiversity education. The platform synergistically integrates the Structured Project-Based Learning (SPjBL) model with a Citizen Science Project (CSP) approach to create an authentic and scaffolded learning environment. Developed using the Lee and Owens model, the product was validated by experts and deemed highly valid (e.g., material validation: 100%) and practical (average score: 92%) based on trials with students. A quasi-experimental study involving 70 tenth-grade students was conducted to assess its effectiveness. The experimental group exhibited significantly higher learning gains compared to the control group. The results demonstrated moderate effectiveness, with normalized gain scores of 0.68 for critical thinking skills and 0.65 for environmental literacy. One-way ANCOVA analysis confirmed that these improvements were statistically significant (p < 0.001). The findings affirm that the BioDiv Web platform is a robust, practical, and effective digital tool for enhancing senior high school students' critical cognitive and affective learning outcomes in biodiversity education.
