Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the need for implementing Critical Discourse Analysis to improve students' digital literacy skills. The research focuses on analyzing the problems and needs of students majoring in Management at STIE Gentiaras Lampung regarding the need to apply Critical Discourse Analysis to improve students' digital literacy skills. Qualitative descriptive is a type of research used by researchers. Meanwhile, STIE Gentiaras Lampung students were the subjects used in this study. There are literature studies, observations, interviews, and tests as data collection methods in the study. There are four analyses of problems experienced by students in order to develop students' digital literacy skills. The four problems are 1) Low Digital Literacy Skills of Students, 2) Mismatch of Teaching Methods in The Classroom, 3) Lack of Integration in the Curriculum, and 4) Lack of Access and Infrastructure. Needs analysis is also carried out by researchers, in addition to applying problem analysis. STIE Gentiaras Lampung students have three needs. First, students need CDA as a learning method to develop their digital literacy skills. Second, students need CDA integration with the latest curriculum. Third, students need adequate access and infrastructure to develop digital literacy skills. Therefore, researchers will continue this research by using CDA as a learning method to develop students' digital literacy skills. Keywords : CDA, digital literacy, need analysis

Abstract

Educators have widely adopted artificial intelligence (AI) as a product of technology to prepare teaching materials and enhance their understanding of technology integration in language teaching. As prospective teachers who may teach digital native students later, pre-service teachers must be more capable and knowledgeable in technologically-based pedagogy, materials, and assessment. This study aimed to explore English as a foreign language (EFL) pre-service teachers’ technological knowledge of utilizing AI-powered tools using the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework and investigate their strategies in the advanced of their technological knowledge. This mixed-method research design employed a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and a semi-structured interview as instruments to collect data. Fifty-five EFL pre-service teachers were purposively selected. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed statistically and descriptively, and data from interviews were analyzed thematically. The first findings of this study comprehensively revealed that EFL pre-service teachers exhibit a moderate level of proficiency in addressing technological knowledge (TK), technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK), technological content knowledge (TCK), and TPACK in utilizing AI-powered tools. Meanwhile, the second finding revealed that the participants employed four key strategies to advance their technological knowledge using AI-powered tools: engaging in TPD programs, collaborating with tech-savvy colleagues, staying informed about AI trends, and experimenting with AI-powered tools.

Abstract

Students' engagement is the high level of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement in the teaching-learning activity. This article research investigated the effects of collaborative classroom activities on student engagement in the virtual classroom. This research is mix-method research that consists of qualitative and quantitative research. The independent variable is collaborative classroom activities, and the dependent variable is students' engagement. The subjects of this research are students from two different universities in Lampung. The researchers use questionnaires to collect the quantitative data and employ observation and take notes to collect the qualitative data. The researchers use TPT Cognitive Engagement Model and Quadrant Analysis for analyzing the data of research. The findings show the same level of students engagement in both quadrants three and four in both classes taught by both researchers. Analysis of students' engagement can be analyzed accurately if the use of peer-coaching techniques is carried out. In addition, the material on subject writing can be studied effectively, and students can also get motivated through collaborative learning based on research survey data.

Abstract

During the pandemic, the teaching and learning process is carried out by implementing e- learning or online learning. One of the most common applications that are used in online learning is Google Meet. The researchers focused on EFL students’ perception by looking for significant studies using information and communication technology using Google Meet for students' English learning during the pandemic. The data used in this literature review are published articles in the form of pdf format. Thus, a total of six studies were found relevant to review. The result showed that using Google Meet in online learning during the pandemic is helpful to assist their learning process. However, students still prefer face-to-face learning because online learning tends to get boring and uninteresting. After all, most teachers are incapable of using an online application to provide an engaging, creative, and innovative learning environment. Abstract

This research was conducted to know the influence of the Visualization Strategy on students' reading comprehension of recount text. This study aimed to identify and describe the impact of the Visualization Strategy on students' reading comprehension. The researchers utilized a quasi-experimental method in this study. There were 283 students in nine classes. Cluster Random Sampling Technique was used to collect the sample. The sample consisted of two classes, with the following details: the first class was an experimental class of 31 students, while the second class was a control class of 31 students. The primary technique of this research was a reading test in multiple choices, which consisted of 40 items with four options. In analyzing the data, the researchers used the t-test formula. The findings show that the Visualization Strategy impacted students' reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung in 2021/2022. It can be seen from the result that the mean score of post-test in the experimental class (84.42) is higher than the mean score of post-test in the control class (72.54). Therefore, using a visualization strategy as a learning model is more effective than a conventional strategy. On the other hand, the pre-test score in the experimental class is 67.42 before utilizing the visualization approach, and the mean score for the post-test in the experimental class is 84.42. It indicates Visualization Strategy had a beneficial impact on reading comprehension, so the students can improve their reading skills using this learning strategy Keywords: Visualization Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Experimental Research
