Abstract

Al-Qur’an is a text that teaches equality and justice between men and women, but the interpretations made by clerics and scholars throughout history are often considered to be influenced by their social and cultural context, which can create gender bias. This bias can occur in various aspects of life, including in the workplace, education, media, and everyday social interactions. In a media context, there was an interesting upload made by the @peachyfraise account on social media X which then received a debate response. This research aims to identify the social construction that occurs in one of the posts about the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an. This research uses a qualitative methodology by applying the social construction theory proposed by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luchkmann. The findings of this research focus on how ready and able individuals are to face the modern world, where they must be able to make decisions regarding their attitudes based on their skills and abilities.

Abstract

This study examines how religion-based political communication is constructed, disseminated, and interpreted in the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) of North Padang Lawas Regency, a region characterized by strong religious authority and dense religious networks. Moving beyond descriptive accounts, this research offers an analytical contribution by demonstrating how religious symbols, narratives, and actors operate simultaneously as framing devices, sources of social identity, and instruments of political legitimacy within local electoral contestation. Employing a qualitative political communication approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key religious institutions—Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, and Al Washliyah—supported by document analysis and campaign material review. The findings reveal three main patterns: (1) religious narratives are strategically framed to construct candidates’ moral legitimacy; (2) religious leaders and networks function as opinion leaders who translate political messages into normative religious values; and (3) hybrid communication patterns combining face-to-face religious forums and digital media amplify emotional resonance while narrowing spaces for critical political deliberation. The integration of framing theory and social identity theory demonstrates that religion-based communication not only mobilizes voter participation but also shapes collective political preferences grounded in socio-religious identity rather than programmatic evaluation. North Padang Lawas serves as a critical case illustrating how local religious authority intensifies both the effectiveness and ethical risks of religion-based political communication. This study contributes to political communication scholarship by highlighting the dual role of religion as a mobilizing resource and a potential source of social polarization, offering implications for ethical campaign practices and the preservation of social cohesion in local democracies.

Abstract

Household spending on hygiene products often places an economic burden on low-income rural communities. Workshops on making liquid dish soap are one form of creative economic empowerment that can reduce spending while opening up opportunities for home-based businesses. This community service activity was carried out in Nagori Bandar Manik Village through counseling and hands-on practice in making liquid soap using easily obtainable ingredients. The results of the activity showed an increase in the community’s knowledge and skills in independently producing dishwashing soap. In addition, an economic analysis of the business showed that the production cost was Rp1,660 per package with a potential profit of Rp2,340 per unit, making it feasible to develop as a micro business. From an Islamic economic perspective, this program reflects the values of maslahah and ta’awun because it is able to maintain the sustainability of household economies and strengthen community independence. Thus, this activity is effective in increasing expenditure efficiency while encouraging the growth of creative home-based businesses.
