Abstract

Social anxiety has emerged as a prominent topic in mental health, particularly among high school students. This condition can arise due to concerns about making new friends and past experiences. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the following variables: (1) self-efficacy and social anxiety, (2) self-esteem and social anxiety, (3) social support and social anxiety, (4) self-concept and social anxiety, (5) the effect of self-efficacy on social anxiety through self-concept, (6) the effect of self-esteem on social anxiety through self-concept, and (7) the effect of social support on social anxiety through self-concept. This study employed a non-experimental, correlational design. The sample included 346 high school students in Malang City, selected through a cluster random sampling technique. Data collection utilized five instruments: the Social Anxiety Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and Personal Self-Concept Scale (PSC). Path analysis was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that all paths had significance values below 0.05, suggesting that all hypothesized paths were significant. The findings of this study highlight the importance of counsellor guidance and counselling services in providing personalized coping strategies and emotional support to help students manage social anxiety effectively. For future researchers, these results may serve as a valuable resource, with a recommendation to explore additional variables affecting social anxiety and to expand the scope of the study area.

Abstract

The phenomenon of microaggressions is a manifestation of implicit discrimination that threatens the psychological health of adolescents, with a prevalence of 84% in Southeast Asia and an escalation of 27% in identity-based bullying cases in the 2022–2023 period. This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aims to analyze the integration of the values of the Gending Sriwijaya Dance as a group counseling modality to reduce microaggression behavior among junior high school students. The methodology used a systematic literature review with the PRISMA protocol and analyzed 15 high-quality articles from the period 2020–2024. The findings identified the intrinsic values of dance, including respect, togetherness, subtlety, and wisdom, that were significantly correlated with the formation of intercultural tolerance. The Gending Sriwijaya dance was chosen in the SLR because it contains a local cultural philosophy that is responsive to the socio-cultural context of Indonesia and has transformative potential in psychological intervention. The group counseling model based on embodied learning through the philosophical and kinesthetic dimensions of dance showed superior effectiveness in enhancing empathy and inclusive behavior compared to conventional interventions. The research contributes by providing an innovative theoretical framework for culturally responsive counseling and recommendations for the development of structured intervention modules as well as multicultural competency training for educational counselors.

Abstract

The bystander effect is the tendency of individuals to not respond to emergencies by helping, defending, or stopping them. Bullying is a sign that someone is in real and imminent danger. Efforts to involve bystanders in intervention will determine whether bullying becomes more severe or even does not occur if they have a moral involvement to their surroundings. This study will highlight the role of bystanders in bullying incidents, whether there is a correlation between the role of bystanders and gender, and how bystanders view bullying from a moral perspective. The research method uses a descriptive quantitative research design that will describe and explain the role of bystanders in bullying incidents. The research data was collected from 104 students aged 12-15 years with instrument bystander bullying role scale 37 items. This scale consists of bystander roles like defender, assistant, outsider, aggressive defender, and reinforcer. The assistant and reinforcer roles showed pro-bullying with findings of 5% and 42% in the moderate category. The defender and aggressive defender roles showed anti-bullying with findings of 22% and 56% in the moderate category. Meanwhile, the outsider role, which is the core of passive bystanders, was found to be 49% in the moderate category and 27% in the high category. The r value obtained was 0.036 < 0.195, indicating a weak correlation between bystander roles and gender. The various observer roles in both genders show that the bystander role can be performed by anyone and that there are individual characteristics that inhibit, reinforce, or are indifferent to bullying incidents. From a moral point of view, these findings show that it is important to develop a sense of moral responsibility and encourage bystanders to intervene on behalf of bullying victims, especially in the role of outsiders.
