Abstract

The Barbie (2023) film has succeeded in presenting more than just a light spectacle about the iconic doll. Behind the bright colors and seemingly perfect atmosphere of Barbie Land, this film explores profound themes, including identity, gender roles, feminism, and social criticism of society's expectations of women. The archetypal character of Stereotypical Barbie, as the main character, plays a vital role in this film as a representation of the perfect woman in Barbie Land. This study aims to analyze the psychological factors in Barbie's journey that may interfere with or support her. This is reflected in several patterns called archetypes in her personality traits and behavior when facing several stages of the storyline. The data for this study used the film "Barbie" (2023) by Greta Gerwig. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, using a psychoanalytic approach (Jung's Archetype theory). The results found seven archetypal characters represented by Stereotypical Barbie. The findings are Persona, Shadow, Animus, The Great Mother, Hero, Trickster, and Self. These findings will help us understand how the psychological layers in Barbie's story reveal complex dynamics about women's roles, identity crises, and the search for self.

This study aims to explore the role of Islamic financial literacy in improving MSME business performance through a systematic literature review approach. Islamic financial literacy is considered increasingly relevant in the context of Muslim-majority countries, especially in supporting sharia-compliant financial decision-making, such as avoiding usury and using profit-sharing-based financing. Based on a literature analysis of various scientific articles, this study found that Islamic financial literacy can have a positive impact on MSMEs' business performance, profitability and innovation. In addition, this study also identifies research gaps related to moderating factors, such as religiosity, financial inclusion and business scale that affect the effectiveness of Islamic financial literacy. The results of this study are expected to contribute to academics, practitioners and policy makers in designing strategies to improve Islamic financial literacy more effectively to support MSME business performance

The study used quantitative methods with Cochran's Formula technique to identify a subset of 100 respondents from Within the study from four state universities in Malang City. Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square is the test tool used in this study The significance between independent variables on green investment interest in Generation Z in Malang City was estimated through WrapPLS 7.0 software. The results showed that attitude, behavioral control, and green investment knowledge significantly positively affect green investment interest, while subjective norms are not positively insignificant to Generation Z's green investment interest. Abstract

This research analyzes the denotation, connotation, and myth present in GoJek advertisements through the lens of Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the study interprets the imagery within the GoJek advertisement video. The analysis adheres to the data flow model by Miles and Huberman (1994), which encompasses data reduction, display, and conclusion formulation. The results indicate that the thumb serves as a central symbol in the GoJek advertisements. On a denotative level, it signifies physical actions like using a smartphone, wiping tears, counting money, and utilizing the GoJek application. On a connotative level, the thumb is linked to themes of empowerment, efficiency, social connectivity, and resilience. The research further uncovers various myths associated with the thumb symbol, including narratives about modernity, progress, individual potential, and the impact of small actions on communal well-being. By utilizing Barthes’ semiotic framework, this study emphasizes how GoJek advertisements leverage visual signs to convey persuasive messages that resonate with the intended audience within their cultural and social context.

Abstract

Regional head elections (Pilkada) are a crucial moment in Indonesia’s political dynamics, but in 2024, political polarization reached its peak, causing significant impacts on local democracy. This study aims to investigate the phenomenon of political polarization in the 2024 regional elections and analyze its implications for the sustainability of local democracy in Indonesia. Through a mixed approach that combines qualitative and quantitative analysis, this study attempts to understand the root causes of political polarization, measure the level of polarization in different regions, and evaluate the resulting political consequences. Political polarization in the context of the 2024 regional elections reflects the increasing tension between different political parties, especially in terms of ideological conflicts and differences in political views. It is influenced by factors such as national polarization, local political dynamics, and the increased use of social media as a tool to amplify divisive political narratives. The results show that political polarization in the 2024 local elections has far-reaching impacts on local democracy, including decreased public political participation, heightened political tensions, and the risk of social conflict that could potentially undermine political stability. The long-term implications of this political polarization highlight the need for appropriate measures to strengthen local democracy and rebuild public trust in the political process. In this context, efforts to promote inclusive political dialog, improve people’s political literacy, and reduce excessive political tension are crucial to maintaining the health of local democracy in Indonesia. Only with these measures can local democracy develop positively and embody strong and inclusive democratic principles amidst complex political dynamics.

Abstract

Literary works have always been influenced by mythological traditions, which offer a wealth of symbolism and thematic complexity. The research aims to analyse the novel's characters, themes, and symbols. With an emphasis on how the incorporation of mythological themes enriches the novel's moral and spiritual aspects, this research explores the function of literary tradition and mythology in C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The steps for collecting and analysing data are reading the novel, categorizing and identifying the characters, and then analyse them. The study identifies eleven mythological characters and analyse their symbolic roles. The characters are Mr. Tumnus, The White Witch, Ginnarbrik, Mr. and Mrs Beavers, Maugrim, Santa Claus, Aslan, Centaurs, Giants, Dryads and Naiads, and Werewolf. The benefit of the research is to provide a greater knowledge of how mythology continues to impact modern literature and our understanding of human nature by evaluating the ways in which Lewis creates the characters and shapes the plot by drawing on mythical traditions.

Abstract

This research analyzes the types of metaphors in Paul Laurence Dunbar’s ‘The Seedling’ using Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory. A metaphor is a figure of speech that compares two different things. A metaphorical poem has the ability to create and translate the figurative language contained in the content of the poem, especially where there are deep personal and emotional experiences”." The research uses descriptive qualitative methods to obtain a clear and systematic description of the metaphors found in this poem. The findings show that there are three kinds of metaphors identified in the poem "The Seedling." Those are ontological, image scheme, and orientational. The metaphors used in Paul Laurence Dunbar's 'The Seedling' speak to the stages of human improvement, utilizing characteristic pictures such as seeds, roots, daylight, and rain. Each allegory is utilized to portray desires, dreams, trusts, and the plausibility of developing into a grown up in spite of having to overcome numerous challenges. Understanding the meaning and function of metaphors will broaden our conception of language as a learning medium with strong implications for language and literacy teaching.
